Fedora :: Firefox 3.5.8 Cannot Save Page / Download After Synched Using Unison
Mar 23, 2010What follows is actually a copy of my yesterday post on users mailing list, which so far had no response at all. I hope I'll have more luck here.I have 3 PCs running Hardy, Karmic, and Fedora 12, with Firefox on each of them: v. 3.0.18 on Hardy and v. 3.5.8 on both Karmic and Fedora.I created "shared" profile on each system and synchronize them using Unison. Ubuntu 8.04 is a base system for synchronization.The synchronization itself works just fine on all 3 systems. No functionality problems on either of Ubuntu's.In Fedora however I'm having a problem. While using "shared" profile I can save neither a web page nor a download (unless I use some of add-on' as described below).
If either Save Page As... or Save Link As... menu items are selected the requests are simply ignored with no response from FF. However using Download Them All add-on does the job. Equally Scrapbook add-on allows me to save/capture pages.
The default profile works as expected. I thought SELinux is on the way but disabling it (for a test sake) did not changed things. All permissions in "shared" profile directory to me look OK.I'm new to Fedora and cannot figure it out myself, need you help, folks.

Oct 17, 2010while i realize it's certainly taboo to download a lot of videos videos and similar without permission, and possibly illegal in some countries due to copyright, i have also been reading that the video is clearly buffered in the page casche, so technically is stored on your machine already, but is only stored in ram. how can i save it from my firefox page casche? some mitigating info is that i have poor web speeds, and an old machine, which is not using all of the 1gig of ram for some reason.

My problem is that if I try to save some webpage in postscript or pdf format, I go to file>print>print-to-file option and choose output file as ps or pdf format. Now if I click to print, I do get the corresponding page saved in ps/pdf format but only the first page is printed(i.e., saved in ps/pdf format) this way, leaving major portion(may be eight pages for example) of the corresponding webpage unsaved. (the option: range of printing: all pages is chosen by default.) Why is this happening and what should I do to print the entire page? Sep 19, 2010I just upgraded my home machine to 11.2 and am running the regular Firefox 3.6.10 for openSUSE-11.2 (why can I still not cut and paste that infor from the dialog box, grr).
My home page is set to - file:///home/dhoworth/public_html/localstart.html
But when Firefox starts it shows instead a directory listing of - file:///home/dhoworth/
If I then press the home button, it shows my home page. If I start a new window from an existing one, it shows my home page.
why it isn't shown on startup?

Mar 25, 2011On my system Firefox 4 seemed to be taking its sweet time "looking up" addresses, but when it found the page it blazed on the render. I poked around on the net and found a few suggestions to speed up the "look up". So I thought I would share... I aimed for the fewest changes, so not to break too many things or make a big mess. (Warning moving and changing things that you don't know about, in the about:config can goof up Firefox so double check your settings) place about:config in the address bar and hit enter
You should get a really long list of things
In the search bar put
network.dns.disableIPv6
My default value was set to false, go ahead and set it to true. Right click and Toggle. Clear out the search bar where network.dns.disableIPv6 was, and put in network.http.pipelining You should have three listings Right click on network.http.pipelining and Toggle so "true" shows for the value. Next, right click on network.http.pipelining.maxrequests and Modify, a box will pop up, replace the default 4 with 8. Close the about:config
Now test your Forefox performance. These three small changes, made a world of difference for me. Its now comparably fast as chromium. If you disagree with what I did, or want to let me know of any other "safe" speedups let me know. PS. If you don't see any improvements performance-wise or your from the future and do use IPv6, it would be best to go and take these settings back to the default Firefox settings.
Fedora :: Npviewer Segfaults - Firefox Sometimes Shows The Title Of A Page In A Tab But The Page Is Blank
Nov 23, 2009On FC11 64 bit with Adobe flash plugin for Linux installed, I see segfault errors from "npviewer" in /var/log/messages. The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?

I can't use the save-as in the menu. So, I use the keyboard shortcuts workaround discovered in another topic. The organize bookmarks->import and backup-> backup won't work. There are no keyboard shortcuts to bypass the bug. How do I get around this?

Jan 13, 2010I have Ubuntu 9.10 dual booting with Windows7.My ext3 /home is mounted as F: in windows.I share a firefox profile between them so that when i am in Windows my firefox uses the same profile as it does when in Ubuntu.It all worked great until recently. I am unable to save files by right clicking and save as. In the config i am unable to set a directory to save to. It neer asks me where to save to. Just nothing happens. some off my book marks are all messed up as well, my rss feeds have the same post on some random website every time i log on and i have to manually refresh to get the correct feeds back. I am unable to delete the random bookmark.

Mar 8, 2011Whenever I want (for example) save a file from the internet with Firefox, I can't because Firefox does not open the "save as" window of Dolphin. Also, when I want to save my bookmarks in Firefox, I can't because Firefox can not open the "save as..." window.
There is no failure message, no crash, just nothing. Like as the request is simply ignored. Any Ideas what might be wrong in my system? The system is OpenSuse 11.3 64 Bit with KDE 4.6 and all current updates.

Mar 25, 2010I updated Firefox today via Yast, since this time it doesn't show any page.I choosed in Configuration no proxy.The sites are empty, nothing just white.I also tried a downgrade to the previous version, didn't help.The Firewall I deactivated for test in Yast, too.A new profile didn't help, starting as administrator either not.

My internet connection is up, but the download stops and goes, and when I try using firefox, it takes a minute to even start to load any page. I save it, and the result is almost always foo.html and directory foo_files. But I think under KDE I could choose the format, one of them being something like "Single page" (only one file; the colecction of .png, etc is embedded into that file). And this is the format I want Xfce (or Firefox) to use when downloading to hdd.

Dec 7, 2009when I open a Firefox session and I right click an image and select "Save Image As" nothing happens meaning no file window opens to save the image. To allow firefox to save an image I have to exit out of it and reopen it. Since I have ran a couple difference distributions over the past week and I have not had this issue before then I am pretty sure it is an OpenSuse only issue. Also another Opensuse issue only in firefox seems to be the inline spell check is underlining words at random that are spelled correctly and incorrectly.

all my hardware seems to be working fine.
i installed the drivers for my nvidia video card, and 3d is working along with kde's desktop effects.
i installed all my favourite firefox extensions including video downloadhelper downloadhelper - media download firefox extension an extension that can download videos from videos and other video sites.
all of my installed firefox extensions seem to be working except video downloadhelper.
when i try to download videos with it nothing happens.
previously i had opensuse 11.2 gnome 64 bit installed on my laptop, and the video downloadhelper extension worked fine.
i think this problem might have something to do with the way opensuse integrates firefox with kde.

Apr 15, 2010after the upgrade to firefox 3.5.9 yesterday, video from my internet camera doesn't appear. Firefox loads the web page from the camera, but the box in the web page containing the video stream doesn't show up.my system is opensuse 11.1, 64-bit. I temporarily downgraded to firefox 3.0.18 and the video worked as usual. By shutting off plugins, I found it was the IcedTea Java web browser plugin 1.6.2 that was driving the video. so I upgraded back to firefox 3.5.9, started looking for an upgraded version of the Java plugin, but the software manager shows that the latest is java-1_6_0-openjdk-plugin (1.6.2_b16-0.1.1 x86_64) and that it is already installed.

Debian :: Firefox - Getting Invalid Certificate On Every Page
Jun 20, 2011I had to do a hard shut down on my linux computer. Every since then it is not working properly and I get an invalid certificate on every page.I have never upgraded Debian since I installed it two years ago. With my experience with Gentoo I have found that upgrades can be a problem and it worked fine so I never messed with it.

May 5, 2010With the last several updates to Firefox, loading pages from several different sites slows down to (slower than) a crawl - taking sometimes minutes. Most of the time, this occurs loading ads.
I don't remember what release this started with, but I didn't have problems before, and I don't have any problems loading the same web pages on IE8 (running on XP). This is the same on F12 and F11.
I have tried changing some of the securty choices, even tried blocking certain sites, but no luck.
Also, several times after a download, firefox freezes, although the rest of the desktop is okay.

Mar 7, 2010When I open 'firefox' from the app panel at the top of the screen, it opens on the last web site visited.
I've looked every place I can think to tell it to open in a blank screen. My preferences are set to blank. Right click on the icon > properties shows 'firefox %u'.
Is there something in 'about:config' that would control this and what do I search for?
