i just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 from 9.10. videos wont play in firefox anymore. ..... videos require 100% computing power and play at 1 frame every 5 seconds with choppy audio.
View 2 Repliesover the last couple of weeks, firefox has asked to be upgraded a few times. shockwave flash has also asked to be upgraded. sometime last week after upgrading shockwave flash all video stopped. so i have no videos, video in webpages just shows a grey box, with a light grey arrow.i have been very busy so i have taken time here and there to check the internet for solutions. there appear to have been problems with macs' and a lot of the problems appear to be from august 2009 onwards,am not sure it is the same problem.i am running opensuse 11.1mozilla firefox 3.6.10shockwave flash 10.1 r82 is enabled

i upgraded to lucid, but now my video has stopped working... videos and iplayer work fine. the problem is with any videos (mp4, flv) opened in vlc or mplayer. i can hear sound fine but the screen is black. the same happens in skype. i followed the comprehensive guide and did all the steps, but no joy.

I started the computer, everything came up fine but the projector I have attached to the HDMI wasn't recognized anymore. I have a GeForce GT 425M and a Panasonic AE-2000 attached to it. The Xorg.0.log has following entries:

4GB DDR2 Memory
500 GB HDD 5400 RPM
Sometimes, both on Gnome MPlayer and Movie Player, videos clips won't play. I use mainly MKV file format and quite often, AVI. I have also installed Ubuntu-Restricted-Extras.
The players will literally not play. When I scroll, it goes through the video clip as if I'm fast forwarding when paused, and then it would still be frozen.
I only use Gnome MPlayer and it's been working fine until like two weeks ago, and when it happens it's also the same for the Movie Player. The problem stays there until I reboot my laptop.
It's random but quite often and it's now doing my head in. It would be nice if any of you gents could give me a good solution without getting involved another player, because I really like Gnome MPlayer.
I have been using my HTPC OpenSuse 11.2 for for some months now and everything is great, I'm very happy that I made the switch to Linux. Today for some reason none of my avi files are able to play. When I try a DVD there is also no play back of the video. Sound is working but video is not there. I have tried Kaffeine, VLC, SM Player. All no luck.

Recently audio stopped working in my flash video, when browsing in Chrome or Firefox, video is ok, but no audio. I don't know when did it stop to work. My system is SUSE 11.3 with all software up-to-date.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI ended up upgrading my wine version to 1.3.20 before it was released to the PPA repos. I downloaded it via git, compiled & installed, but now it did not detect my drivers anymore. It even warned me when i ./configure'd it, but I didn't listen. I tried, also, remove purge all wine packages I own and reinstall them from Ubuntu, but the dud 1.3.20 version is still installed. Is there a way to bring the sound back? Or, is there a way to revert this installation and make me able to install 1.3.19 back?

I was running 2.6.26 and I've recently upgraded to 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 along with other packages (mostly dependencies)... which possibly involved the network stack.
After this upgrade my home gateway stopped working and I'm clueless to where the problem may be.
I can see that the iptables are still there when I type:
iptables -t filter -L -v -n -x --line-numbers
iptables -t nat -L -v -n -x --line-numbers
My USB printer stopped working after I upgraded Slackware, using the Current.Also can not install any USB printer. CUPS version 1.4.2.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently installed ubuntu 9.10 dual boot. All went well until I upgraded the video drivers for the nvidia chipset on my motherboard. If I leave Gnome to start with the single user i created i get a black screen and 'mode not supported ' message on the monitor. BUT if i drop to root and 'startx' all is well and i can adjust the various screen resolutions and they all work well.
At this point i created another user name to check, and that works fine also, but if i drop back to the original user i get no screen unless i select 800x600, although all the other resolutions work fine with root and the other user name. Im stumped as I presume there's only one xorg.conf file for all users.
I was in the middle of watching a video when the sound stopped working.

Any ideas what might have caused this? Any work-arounds? (apart from Ctrl-Alt-(arrow) / switching to a different workspace - which is a fair workaround)
Firefox 3.6 "Namoroka" stopped working after a recent update. Clicking on my panel launcher or the launcher in the applications menu does nothing. I even tried starting Firefox from the terminal and got an error message: "(firefox-bin:3592): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times", whatever that means.I would be willing to rip out Firefox and start all over again but I don't know how to remove the 3.6 version. I couldn't find a method in the Software Center for doing that graphically.

Since a week or two, clicking a link to a pdf file will not load in Firefox. I tried removing Adobe Reader and reinstalling it. Then the pdf files loaded, but now again they will not load. It just stopped working! No error messages.
I upgraded to UBUNTU 9.10 and now my sound card is not working. The card is listed in the sound preferences Hardware but not in the input or output sections.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04, and I noticed that the nvidia driver are not working all well as they did before.
Although I get the nvidia logo when X starts, the 3d part does not work well. For example using mplayer -vo gl does not work anymore. When I type glxinfo I get the x error of failed request badwindow message. More anonyingly flash will crash when going to fullscreen.
The 2d part of the drivers seem fine because xvinfo and -vo xv works fine.
We've bought a cheap video camera for our son to make a movie. Files are stored on a 16Gb SD disk. When we first used it a week ago I was able to connect the camera via USB and copy the files to my laptop. Today I went to clear some more files to make room for shooting the movie and nothing shows up when the camera is attached to the laptop. I can view the files on the camera so they do exist.
I have tried:Using different usb ports Using a different computer Using an SD Card Reader on both computers Investigating permissions via terminal (the camera seems to be set to RWX Checking that no one has played with the settings on the camera Nothing has changed on the camera or the laptop as far as I can see and yet the files are not showing up.

Have been using Jaunty for a year now, but today my sound has stopped working. It works fine in windows which should eliminate any hardware problems. When I run a test through sound preferences I get to hear static.

Flash was working perfect until one of the last software updates. Now all I get is "The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed."
I tried running:
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer and got the following message"

Getting a little tired of applications working one day but not the next....this morning it's devede. Firstly it somehow VANISHED from the system...all on it's own. Then when I reinstalled it, it spits this guff out...........
yesterday it was mplayer...I watched a view videos...and then it just started segfaulting on every video including the ones it just played. As such as well as any advice re: devede I would like to hear how to turn all ubuntu's sneaky background crap off so it acts like linux and not windows.

View 4 Replies View Relatedin 10.10 my internal audio and my external usb 5.1 soundcard worked fine, and everything was still ok after i upgraded to 11.04. i then tried to install an equaliser called "alsaequal" which required the alsa-driver-1.0.24 package, which i compiled ok. now i've lost all sound and can only see dummy output listed in sound preferences, and no hardware is detected.
sudo aplay -l doesn't detect anything either! i've folled all the steps on the sticky thread in multimedia, i tried purging and reinstalling all the alsa packages which didnt work, and then tried compilling alsa source packages, which wound up with errors. i was following this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1725874 which suggested running the alsa-info.sh script. i ran this and uploaded the output here:961380d1e9d23fi dont really understand any of this, but it seems to have detected my internal pci card but not my usb card.any help would be really appreciated after the hours spend fruitlessly trawling through these forums
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop, and I can't see flash in Firefox. I can hear flash, but not see it. I'm not sure when this started, because I haven't been using Firefox in a while. I've been using Chrome but now I want to use Firefox 4 beta (which also has the same flash problem as Firefox).
