Picked up a Linkskey KVM (LKU-UA02) from my brother for free, thought I'd put it to use. Works fine but after switching between each machine once, the keyboard/mouse does not work. Tried unplugging the device(s) and the KVM itself from each machine but no luck.Not a huge issue, but it would be nice to use the KVM (right now I have to use VNC to get a similar effect).

recently i tried to install for the first time and everything booted up fine but when i got to the post install configuration my mouse and keyboard don't work! after that one time whenever i try to load linux it just sits at the boot screen where the colored bar goes left to right and has fedora text in the bottom right corner. i don't know if this matters or not but i'm dual booting with windows XP also i tried using a live cd of fedora 11 it always boots up to the login however just like above i can't use my mouse or keyboard for that one either.
View 8 Replies View RelatedGot myself in a bit of a squeeze here. I was messing around with the Xorg install on my Fedora 12 system. I ended up reinstalling it. Now my mouse and keyboard work fine in single user mode / terminal. But if I try and boot to X they dont work at the login screen. HAL and udev are booting. Ive done a udevadm monitor test in single user mode and its seeing the devices connect and disconnect. Ive also tried both USB and PS2 devices. Same issue. Ive tried playing with xorg.conf and generating it with Xorg -configure :1 I dont know to use to fix it. After banging my head against the wall for 20+ hours I decided it was time to ask for help. m just Lynxing around the web at the moment =X

View 11 Replies View RelatedI've just installed CentOS-5.4 on an AMD64 box, dual boot with Windows 7 64, if that matters. At first I could not get the GUI to display at all, but fixed that using system-config-display. During installation, the keyboard (HP bluetooth set with mouse) worked fine in the GUI, but mouse did not. Now when it loads the GUI interface after booting, neither the keyboard or the mouse will work at all, therefore I can't navigate anywhere. I have done the yum update already as well, from init 3, but they still are not working. what I should do next, where to check?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a ubuntu loaded in KDE and this is in dual boot with Windows vista. I was "upgrading" my Linux (through update manager) when my computer just shut down. And when i restarted the computer to login to the Linux all I got was blank screen. I logged into recovery mode and selected the option to fix the packages. I rebooted my system and then again logged into the Linux. This time I could get the login screen but my mouse as well as Keyboard was not recognized. Essentially i cannot type or scroll and cannot login into Linux.

This problem starts from when Ubuntu loads, keyboard and mouse is fine until that point. There's also a complaint message once it's loaded up: The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet".
On a Dell Inspiron and a Acer Aspire X3200, Ubuntu 9.10 works just fine.
I have a Logitech Wave keyboard and mouse for my computer. I am not sure which version of Ubuntu I am running on but I think it is 6.10. When I boot up my computer I can go into the BIOS and earlier today it would even let me press escape to seee which operating systems I could boot. Now it no longer lets me see the operating system I have (which is why I cant say which version of Ubuntu I have). It takes me to the log in page and asks for the username and password but I cant type and I cant move the mouse. Earlier I could also use Alt+F1-F12, but this is no longer working either so it just sits at the login page and nothing works at all. The computer that is having this problem is very old it is a Proteva and when I opened up the actual computer the processor says:

I know that the BIO's are to old for Ubuntu to run properly because at startup it also says that: "ACPI :
BIOS age (1998 ) fails cutoff (2000), acpi=force is required to enable ACPI" it also says that: "ACPI : unable to load the System Description Tables."
I have'nt used this computer for about a year or two, but the last time I used it it worked perfectly fine. I have been seeing questions on the forums similar to mine, but their problems are on other versions of Ubuntu and their mouse's are said to work fine. I cant try any of the solutions for the problems I have read about because I cant open the prompt that you get when you are at the log in screen and press F2. I have no idea what to do.
When I'm using Nautilus, I've found (for years) that I've had to hit Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V or Del multiple times until the commands would register. I noticed this occurs when the mouse is moving. I've looked under System > Preferences but can't find anything. Is there a key in gconf or something that I can disable?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter booting up my pc, sometimes it loads, and then my mouse freezes and i am unable to do anything at all. keyboard doesnt work either. Causing me to do a restart. when starting my pc, i get the ubuntu splash screen and then it jumps to a black screen with: "desktop login" after i out in my log in it asks for the password, i put that in and get "Weclome to Ubuntu etc" (forgot all the words, but its some statement welcoming me to ubuntu. The i get "tim@tim-desktop: $" but this is all on a black screen. Only way to get past this is to reboot my pc. and then it loads properly.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI (finally!) have Mythtv working under 10.04. I use the Haupaugge DVB-T card with its remote. Whilst setting up the kit this worked OK. When I unplugged the keyboard and mouse the system prior to installing it next to the TV appeared to have stopped responding to the remote. In fact it seems to be responding to a number of the remote keys but not the OK and Go keys which isn't enough to run Mythtv.
I don't think leaving a keyboard & mouse plugged in is going to be domestically acceptable.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to restore lirc functionality?
I use skype, and several times when i have it open, more often when i am using it, the hole system stuck with no response. The mouse stop moving, the keyboard does not work, even control + alt + backspace does not work! The only available choice is to reboot the computer.

I've installed F13 with 'minimal' type, i.e. no desktop environment.
After a lot of struggle, I managed to install quite a few packages (after configuring network!) and the Nvidia (proprietary) driver, disabling the nouveau driver.
I got to mention that nvidia installer offered me to create a xorg.conf on its own with its drivers configured for X. But the thing is if I type X or Xorg the screen turns black meaning that X is running but I don't see anything. Looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I see this message:
AllowEmptyInput is on, devices using drivers 'kbd' or 'mouse' will be disabled.
Then, later on, i installed gnome thinking it'll take care of these input devices but the same happens in the gnome login screen too. Both Keyboard and mouse are not working.
I've tried adding the Option "AllowEmptyInput" "off" or Option "AllowEmptyInput" "false" in my xorg.conf under both the input devices section and also the server layout section, but all in vain.
I'm sure I'm missing some setting or something. I've also looked at a few bugs logged in the RedHat bug DB but their resolution of setting the AllowEmptyInput to false doesn't work in my case.
I'm having an issue installing Fedora 11. The install goes fine, but after restarting (when I get to the initial configuration screen) my keyboard and mouse don't work. I can boot into the Live CD without issue. My boot.log file is below:

I have Fedora running a 1 HDD and have just added two more hard disks to the machine and have told the BIOS to raid them. however when the login screen appears neither the keyboard or mouse work! during the boot process everything is fine and booting into Single User Mode works...

I can't wake it using keyboard or mouse. only with the power button. Anyoen else experience this or know how to allow sleep from keyboard/mouse?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIt's two days now I'm in deep troubles after my last "yum update". The system boots as usual, the graphical login pops up the normal way but no input is handled by either the internal keyboard (the system is a laptop), the mouse pad, the external USB mouse and keyboard.
The hardware itself seems to be working as I can pop up the BIOS menus and even edit the GRUB booting line. But, after GRUB there's no possible input. I've tried to boot the system with the Fedora 11 DVD, rescue menu and then chroot. This in order to run a "yum update" in the hope that the problem was in some broken update. No chance: there's no update.
My questions are:
1. Is there a way to boot Fedora withou any graphical interface from GRUB (or anything else to skip the KDE)?
2. Is there a way to have the (cabled) network activated at boot *before* the graphical login?
3. What the he** is happening to my otherwise pefectly working laptop?

I installed Fedora 11 on an external usb HDD (StoreJet trascend) connected to my Acer AspireOne (110 L), and it has been working marvelous for over a month. Today, something really strange happened: After I choose the booting media (StoreJet trascend) Fedora 11 freezes on the loggin screen: Both, keyboard and mouse, stop working. I have no idea what services are shoot down or not recognized since the start screen starts with the blue and fedora logo one.

I'm having trouble installing F11 x86_64, and I'm sure it is something to do with the video card.X will not even start if I have both nvidia quadro FX1700's installed. If I take one out, I can install F11, but it always 'hangs' when it starts X (which is to say, both the keyboard and mouse are locked - until I press the power button, but then it shuts down anyway).I've fiddled inittab so it starts in runlevel 3 so I can at least get in and tinker. There is no xorg.conf in /etc/X11, so I assume the system is building it's own and not quite getting it right (guess work based on other threads with similar symptoms).
I can connect to the system from another Linux machine via ssh, and I can ftp to it. I tried copying the xorg.conf from the other machine, but while it changed the screen resolution (ergo, it had some effect), it still went nuts. Starting X remotely via ssh allowed me to trap the messages, which indicate the lack of HAL has something to do with the problem.service --status-all reports hald stopped; I'm assuming this should not be the case. I've used yum to reinstall hal, but that made no difference. Nor did an update - it was already at the most recent level.F11 was installed from a DVD downloaded vai a bittorrent; the disk checked out ok.
My knowledge is limited, and I don't know what should be in xorg.conf for my machine, although I could type it in from scratch or ftp it across from here. It was 'okay' under F10, happily tolerating both video cards. But it seems to be sulking under F11. In case it matters, I'm doing everything as root; since firstboot starts X, I can't use that to create another userid.
- nomodeset, xdriver=vesa, selinux=0, remove rhgb as boot parameters - all to no avail (although these changes seem to be ignored for the most part anyway);
- start the HAL daemon manually (mine failed to start, as others have reported). It didn't like that! (the output is available, but is enormous)
- startx -configure - simply failed;
- dirconf didn't work;
- I've tried swearing at it during start-up, which turned out to be no more or less successful than anything else, but it was fun.
Intel Q6600 64 bit. Twin nvidia Quadro FX1700 cards (one removed for the time being) driving two 1920x1200 monitors each. Please let me know if there is any other relevant information I can supply.
so, last night i checked my e-mail, jumped on facebook for a minute and went to bed. i got up this morning and my computer seemed frozen; no mouse/keyboard, no network visibility.....nothing. the screen was just frozen. tried too ssh into it to reboot, but the network wasn't up on it. i had to hard reboot. NOW, it just reboots forever....and ever....and ever. i have a WinXP partition on there along with my F12 and that wont boot either. selecting a previous kernel does nothing either. it wont even boot off the F12 install DVD. just keeps rebooting. I've never had this happen to me. so, it seems like a hardware thing to me, but i dont know if its my mobo or the drive. i suspect a mobo issue as the drive still spins up and gets me to the grub menu.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 12 on a Shuttle SN78SH7. Updates are all current from the Fedora repositories. I'm using the Nouveau driver for the Shuttle's on-board Nvidia graphics adapter. At random intervals (1 to 5 times per day), my USB keyboard and the buttons on my USB mouse stop working and the desktop freezes (i.e. GKrellm graphical data stops updating, partially painted windows don't complete). However, I can still move the mouse pointer around the desktop. This only seems to happen when I am actually using the computer from the console. It has never happened while the system was turned on, but not being used.
When the mouse and keyboard stop working, I can log in from another computer via ssh. Once the computer gets in this state, the only way to fix things is either to reboot remotely using ssh or to cycle power. I've run low level hardware diagnostics - everything checks out OK. This computer only has USB and firewire inputs. No PS2 jacks.
I am running Vista on my C: drive and I just got Fedora 11. I planned to dual boot Vista and fedora 11. I Downloaded the Live CD from the site (680 +- MB) and burned the files IN the .iso file to an empty DVD and CD. Shrank my D: drive and now have about 27 GiB wort of unpartitioned space. I booted from the Live CD. everything went OK until i chose Boot from the Boot Menu that came up. First it took me to a screen with the following message:
ACPI: expecting a [reference] package element found type 5. and then in went on to boot normally. Then when it reached the user login screen, I found that my mouse and keyboard were'nt responding and that there was no lights on any of the keys. I checked the USB cables and did a hard shutdown and booted from the Live CD again, but the problem persists.
