Ubuntu Installation :: Install From USB Drive - Get An Message "No DEFAULT Or UI Configuration Directive Found?

I recently decided to install Ubuntu on a couple of computers without CD drives (netbooks), so I followed these instructions to create a bootable flash drive: http:[url].....That worked fine for both netbooks. Now I'm trying to use the same flash drive on a desktop currently running Windows Vista, but get his message when I try to boot from the flash drive:
No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!I tried to boot one of the netbooks from the flash drive again and that still works.I'm thinking a BIOS setting.

I downloaded SUSE to a directory and copied that to a CD to use for running a trial on a 950 Mhz laptop. The CD does show a directory Boot and the boot directory does contain files. There is also a file named syslinux.cfg which when viewed from MS XP is identified as a configuration file for MS Office Outlook.
On boot attempts from the CD I get the Error message: No default or UI configuration directive found.Do I have an error on the D/L disk or is my proceedure not correct?

So I decided to go on and install 10.04 LTS, because it is LTS... I created the live USB as directed on the Ubuntu download page. I download Universal USB Installer and it says USB created successfully. However, when I boot from the USB the error comes up as mentioned in title... The USB has no problems because I installed 10.10 last time from the very same USB. There's nothing wrong with the procedure because I am following the officially suggested method. Also, nothing wrong with partitions because one instance of Ubuntu is installed and was working fine until I tried to install video drivers (long story)...

Syslinux shows the message in the title everytime I try to boot from a 2gb usb drive. I've tried with Xubuntu 10.04 Desktop for i386 and Linux Mint 9, both with Unetbootin and Universal USB Installer, but I'm getting the same error all the time, it's driving me crazy. I haven't tried with other USB sticks or a different PC though, that's next on my list. Below's a dxdiag file for if you need it,

I am trying install rhel 6 on my rhel 5. I have downloaded rhel6.0-20100715.2-server-i386-dvd1.iso (from redhat ftp site) and burned into dvd. After rebooting I pressed F12 and chose cd installation.

I downloaded and burned the Fedora-13-x86_64-dvd iso to install on my shiny new box (MSI NF980-G65 MB, AMD Phenom II x4 945 CPU, 8GB Corsair DDR3 memory, generic ATAPI DVD drive, 2 500GB SATA drives, 2 1.5TB SATA drives). I boot from the DVD and and take the default install/upgrade option on the menu. I've tried with the default boot options and with about a dozen different options, all give the the same thing.
Looking console 3, shows the following:
ERROR loader: removing ddmode.conf failed
ERROR loader: got to setupCdrom without a CD device
It can't find the CD/DVD drive that it booted from. The install on console 1 is prompting for a driver to load. Do I need to download a driver for a generic ATAPI/IDE CD/DVD drive?

With a default 11.4 (64bit) install, selecting XFCE for the desktop environment I get the following appear in an "xmessage" window."GTK GUI wanted but not found, falling back to Qt".This appears whenever I click cancel in any YaST dialogs, the "Install/Remove Software" dialog from the XFCE menu.eg. Opening the YaST->Firewall dialog to check the current status of the firewall, then clicking cancelll show the "xmessage" window.Is this message harmless and my system is still ok ? When I plug in my external USB Hard drive which is formatted as a single NTFS partition, it is recognized and mounted automatically, a nautilus window pops open. Unfortunately it is not writable. The reason is: the partition is mounted "ntfs" (which lacks write support) instead of "ntfs-3g". This is the output of mount after plugging in the drive:
$ mount | grep sdc1
/dev/sdc1 on /media/4EBC5FB82435B0EE type ntfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=devkit,uid=1000,gid=1000,dmask=0077)
I want this partition to be writable by just plugging it in.
The partition should not have any errors because a) I fsck'ed it windows and b) mounting it manually works:
$ sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdc1 /media/disk_/
$ mount | grep sdc1
/dev/sdc1 on /media/disk_ type fuseblk (rw,allow_other,blksize=4096)
$ devkit-disks --mount-fstype ntfs-3g --mount /dev/sdc1
Mounted /org/freedesktop/DeviceKit/Disks/devices/sdc1 at /media/4EBC5FB82435B0EE
$ mount | grep sdc1

How can I get ntfs drives to be mounted as writable by default, preferrably without having to modify fstab?

I downloaded linphone 3.30 using mozila and tried installing. while giving the command ./configure it was successful and next giving the command make gives me a error message make file is not found. but makefile.am and makefile.in is already available in the current working directory.

I installed Ubuntu on my PS3. I got a confirmation message that Ubuntu was installed and I needed to restart. When I reboot I get a loading message and everything checks until:

[space between root and fs is how I see it]. If no rootfs was found, you can enter the shell here with 'sh'. Exiting will return you to this prompt. In the shell you can mount your rootfs as /mnt/root/.
Reasons this may have happened include:
-No drive with a rootfs was actually found
-Your footfs does not have the correct volume lable of "/"
-Your rootfs is corrupt (use rescue cd to fix this).

I have just installed Debian 8 with Gnome desktop and trying to add my username to sudoers list.
When I open terminal and enter visudo I get the following error message...

Although I am quite new to debian, I have done this successfully in the past so not sure why this is happening?

been a fan of openSUSE for years now and peridocially go back and forth between Suse and Windows. However, I'm still an enthusiastic amateur when it comes to this stuff. Well, I bought a netbook (Acer Aspire ONE) several months back and loved Win 7 (a first for me). However, like all Windows, they all go down the crapper. So I'm wanting to completely wipe out Windows and go all Suse on my netbook.So I downloaded KDE Live and "burned" it on my USB. BTW, the image writer that are in the directions only writes, .raw files not .iso. I had to use a third party software.I then went into my BIOS and put the USB drive first on the booting list, and then restarted. When trying to boot a USB disk image of either 10.10 or 10.04 I get an error saying that no syslinux configuration file could be found and "syslinux error: No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found.".
The USB disk was created using the Startup Disk Creator on Maverick.
I'm guessing the second error is just caused by the first, since the syslinux.conf definitely isn't there. Thing is, I've used the 10.04 image before and it's worked fine, so I'm starting to think it's the Startup Disk Creator that's at fault.

I previously used 11.1 with KDE 3.5. Since I have /home on a separate partition I decided to install 11.2 from scratch to avoid any conflicts with KDE 4 installing. No problems on first reboot and some updates were installed. Now at each boot I'm dropped into text login. If I try <startx> I get <no screens found> and /var/log/Xorg.0.log gives <screens found but none have usable configuration>. However if I add vga=952 at the boot screen (for a 1280x800 laptop) I get into graphical login and everything works well (yes even KDE 4). Below is an snip from /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

I've always used a Seagate external drive (USB) for backup of data.
Now, for whatever reason, the drive isn't recognized/found/seen/appear.
For that matter- none of the USB stick memories I connect are recognized either on any of the USB ports I hook them into.
All of the USB stuff works perfectly in Windows.

I just installed Debian onto a PowerPC G4 Tower with two hard drives. I left OS X on one of the drives and reformatted and installed Debian on the other, using the installer from the 60Mb ISO from the Debian website.
The installation had no issues and it starts yaboot and Debian no problem.
After about 2 minutes of the booting up process, it starts to output this, every five seconds:
While this happens, other things still continue load and it outputs occasional messages and even gets to "Debian Login:" where if you type really quickly and hit enter, it takes it and prompts for "Password:" right after the next round of the above messages.
I have not been able to completely log in yet.
I can start up into the shell as root with "Linux single" with no problems.
I think this might have something to do with the second Mac OS Formatted Hard drive. I have considered unplugging that drive and testing it that way, but I am looking for a solution to turn off whatever script is running that every five seconds and failing, regardless of what it is trying to do.

I've built a new computer and successfully installed XP on it. I've tried to install Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit edition from a pen drive and CD. I can boot into the pendrivend use it however when I try to install it doesn't recognize the harddrive.At the moment there are no jumpers on the harddrive although I've tried them in several positions to no avail. I've also tried plugging the harddrive in several of the SATA ports on the motherboardeven tried unplugging the DVD drive altogether.. no joy. I also went into the Bios and changed the mode to AHCI (it was set to IDE)My motherboard is a Asus P6X58D-E with an i7processor and 2Gb ram.The harddrive is a 500Gb WD5000AAKS
