I am trying install rhel 6 on my rhel 5. I have downloaded rhel6.0-20100715.2-server-i386-dvd1.iso (from redhat ftp site) and burned into dvd. After rebooting I pressed F12 and chose cd installation.
I get the following message on my screen.

I downloaded SUSE to a directory and copied that to a CD to use for running a trial on a 950 Mhz laptop. The CD does show a directory Boot and the boot directory does contain files. There is also a file named syslinux.cfg which when viewed from MS XP is identified as a configuration file for MS Office Outlook.
On boot attempts from the CD I get the Error message: No default or UI configuration directive found.Do I have an error on the D/L disk or is my proceedure not correct?

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I decided to go on and install 10.04 LTS, because it is LTS... I created the live USB as directed on the Ubuntu download page. I download Universal USB Installer and it says USB created successfully. However, when I boot from the USB the error comes up as mentioned in title... The USB has no problems because I installed 10.10 last time from the very same USB. There's nothing wrong with the procedure because I am following the officially suggested method. Also, nothing wrong with partitions because one instance of Ubuntu is installed and was working fine until I tried to install video drivers (long story)...

This appears when I try to boot Debian 7.6.0 from my USB drive
I recently decided to install Ubuntu on a couple of computers without CD drives (netbooks), so I followed these instructions to create a bootable flash drive: http:[url].....That worked fine for both netbooks. Now I'm trying to use the same flash drive on a desktop currently running Windows Vista, but get his message when I try to boot from the flash drive:
No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!I tried to boot one of the netbooks from the flash drive again and that still works.I'm thinking a BIOS setting.
Syslinux shows the message in the title everytime I try to boot from a 2gb usb drive. I've tried with Xubuntu 10.04 Desktop for i386 and Linux Mint 9, both with Unetbootin and Universal USB Installer, but I'm getting the same error all the time, it's driving me crazy. is possible to edited the default RHEL CD to have it automatically install RHEL based off of a kickstart file that I will store locally on the CD. My plan would be to put a cd in a server and have the OS automatically being installed.

I've been asked by my boss to install RHEL 5.4 onto a HP Proliant DL380 G3 which we have here. Now I'm a total linux newbie but can figure my way around most things but this has got me stumped.
I have downloaded the RHEL 5.4 i386 DVD iso and burnt it OK. But when I boot from the CD in the server it doesn't recongise it. I put the DVD into any other server/PC and it boots fine. The server also boots fine from other CDs'DVDs?
Anyway, I thought I would try the boot.iso instead so I burnt this and the DL380 boots fine. I try the default install option, select country/keyboard layout/ select local CDROM as the install type and this is the problem now.
It ejects the boot CD so I put in the RHEL 5.4 DVD and it keeps saying:- the red hat enterprise linux server cd was not found in any of your cdrom drives I have reburnt the DVD and same problem. I have also tried creating a VM with the DVD and this boots and installs fine in VMWare so I know the DVD is good.
I'm comparing a RHEL4 samba server's config to a new RHEL install with a default samba config. On the old one I see that there is a line saying
invalid users = root bin daemon adm sync shutdown halt mail news operator
On the new default install I don't even see where it mentions the invalid users option in the notes. Does it do that by default now or something?
So im setting up my own server never done it before so should be interesting Im going to install apache but it says in my instructionsFirst thing is make sure you open up /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf and at least change the ServerName directiveSo ive found the file, and i managed to open it with hte command ed httpd.conf But it just showed a 5 or 6 digit number.Do i need to edit this and why ?What command should i use to edit? what should i put into this file ? how do i close the file when ive edited it?

But i didnt use MySql package inside the CD to install MySQL. i install MySQl separately. I download from MySql website. My problem is, i success install MySql in my server. The service also running. But when i type.
mysql -u root password
it said, command not found.
I have run into some serious problems trying to start up RHEL AS4. I am trying to install Oracle on this box which by the way is running as a guest OS through VirtualBox. I was running with it fine yesterday. I was doing the prerequisites of updating the /etc/sysctl.conf file with additional kernel parameters. Prior to that I added another scsi virtual disk and extended a PV and left it at that for the night. I am since come back today and trying booting and am getting the following errors:
Volume group "VolGroup00" not found;
Couldn't find all physical volumes for volume group VolGroup00;
Couldn't find device with UUID "Some UUID of the device";
ERROR: /bin/lvm exited abnormally! (pid 318);
mount: error 6 mounting ext3;

kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
I have tried running in rescue mode and it can find volume group VolGroup00. I also have installed Storage Foundation which includes veritas volume manager and other various veritas components. Does anyone have a clue what I am supposed to do here to get RHEL up and running again? I am running kernel version 2.6.9-42.EL if that helps as well.
I'm curious as to why system-config-services is not installed by default in Fedora 13. IMO it's a pretty important tool for managing a system. I checked the release notes but could not find any mention of its removal.

i typed down this commands to download the compiz unsupported plugins

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported
but after all i got some new plugins(they are few only) and every thing is set to false
and now all my desktop is as *! can't even do any thing
i can't work with any GUI because of this

I'm trying to change the desktop to KDE so that it's persistent across boots. I did the usual thing of adding /etc/sysconfig/desktop and adding the appropriate parameters, but for whatever reason, whenever I reboot, it still loads Gnome. Now here's where it gets annoying: I can switch to runlevel 3, type startx, and then it will read /etc/sysconfig/desktop and load KDE properly. I've been banging my head against a wall over this one. Where is the call made to start gdm? I think I'll probably wind up changing the default runlevel to 3, but I'm still curious as to why those scripts are not executed on boot.

I installed all that I was asked to install. However, when I was installing libcss, it said that "Package libparserutils was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing 'libparserutils.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable". I have already installed libparsercutils but not in the /usr/lib dir.
What should I do to continue my installation? And anyone could tell me what are those lib stuff? I installed zlib with the apt-get install command.Can I get other lib stuff with the same command?
