OpenSUSE :: YaST - "GTK GUI Wanted But Not Found" Message With Default 11.4 XFCE?

With a default 11.4 (64bit) install, selecting XFCE for the desktop environment I get the following appear in an "xmessage" window."GTK GUI wanted but not found, falling back to Qt".This appears whenever I click cancel in any YaST dialogs, the "Install/Remove Software" dialog from the XFCE menu.eg. Opening the YaST->Firewall dialog to check the current status of the firewall, then clicking cancelll show the "xmessage" window.Is this message harmless and my system is still ok ? It happens everytime with a XFCE install, I have reinstalled 11.4 several times to check

I recently decided to install Ubuntu on a couple of computers without CD drives (netbooks), so I followed these instructions to create a bootable flash drive: http:[url].....That worked fine for both netbooks. Now I'm trying to use the same flash drive on a desktop currently running Windows Vista, but get his message when I try to boot from the flash drive:
No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!I tried to boot one of the netbooks from the flash drive again and that still works.I'm thinking a BIOS setting.

When I go to openSUSE Download Mirrors - Overview, after I click the "http" of the mirror I want, where do I click down to after that to get the proper url? It just keeps opening new folders, so what's the url I need to put in yast, say for the argonne national laboratory (usa) mirror?

As I have had some problems using kpagager I've used file asociations to set yast as the default. When I download an rpm the yast icon bounces around for a while and then dies. I assume this means I need another set of yast launch instructions. Suppose I could download to a directory and set it as a repo but would rather just have it launch for rpms as it's quicker. 11.4 KDE 4.6.0

I usually run my updates every Friday, my last good update was 4-Mar-2011. I could not update this week and got an error -"PackageKit Error repo-not-available: File '/repodata/repomd.xml' not found on medium http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Tumbleweed:/Raw/openSUSE_Tumbleweed_standard/'"I get a similar error message when starting Yast Software Management.Is this related to the 11.4 release? I'm waiting for fewer bugs before I upgrade to 11.4, so I'd like to be able to keep current with 11.3.

While attempting to uninstall Perl (through Yast) from my SUSE installation, it ended up deleted everything important in OS
compilers are gone, SVN gone.
Its a dedicated server and lots of other applications were running on it.
now it says "-bash: yast: command not found".

I just had to do a reinstall of 11.3 when plasma refused to run. Now I'm noticing that applications are missing from (pacman) repo, but when I browse the repo with firefox, the rpms are there, they're just not being found by a yast search... Both mplayer and kdelnive are not found by yast. There are probably others...

I am running Slackware 13 (64 bit) and when Xfce starts up, a message box opens up with the error:

I want to load the package madwifi under opensuse from Index of /suse/11.1, but RealPlayer did not function correctly. The reason why I want to use madwifi is that I cannot start my internet with opensuse 11.1 using motherboard from asus with the ethernet adapter from Atheros AR 8121/AR8113 PCI-E Version 1.0.0.5. When I compile the delivered Linux drivers I got the failure message "Makefile:61: Linux kernel source not found". So I decided to take rpm from opensuse within madwifi. How/Where can I get the corrosponding madwifi elsewhere?

I've recently installed openSuse 11.4 64bit with KDE 4.6 and that's when the trouble started. If I put a data or mp3 cd in the drive it can be mounted. Simple audio cds refuse to mount, giving me only the option to play on one of the audio players. Since I wanted to move some music to the computer I've had to resort to windows to copy files then transfer them. How can I force KDE/Suse to behave the way I want or do I have to revert to an earlier version with KDE3.5? I suspected that System Settings/Removable Devices was where I needed to be but nothing I did worked. So then I tried playing with System Settings/Device Actions and again nothing seemed to work. I can't mount the CD manually,I get this (using su -c "mount etc"

I would like to set the default text editor in Xfce to gedit. The only solution that I found on Google was to right click on a given text file, select 'open with other application', sleect gedit, and make sure that the "use as default kind" button is checked. Unfortunately this only works for text files with the same extension as the original file. Is there a way of setting every text file to open with gedit by default that doesn't involve repeating this exercise for every possible text file extension (.c, .py, .h, .hs, etc.)?

I recently decided to install xfce-desktop as a fallback alternative whenever Gnome 3 has problems. Now I have the Thunar file manager opening up by default even when logged into Gnome (for example when using Alt-F2 and typing in a folder name, or when plugging in an iPod.) I've searched around for days but can't find any place to set a default file manager. The Default Applications dialogue doesn't include file manager, only web browser, video etc.)

Fresh guest install of current as of changelog dated 16-Feb-2011, in to VirtualBox 4.0.4 (13.1 x86_64 host).
1. About 6 of the icons normally residing in the top half of Settings Manager are missing (names are their and functions work). Selecting 'Appearance -> Icons' and re-selecting the one choice available restores one, the rest remain MIA.
2. Default xfce Terminal launch fails with error <????> Re-selecting the default 'Preferred Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal -> Xfce Terminal' has no effect. 'Properties' shows the usual 'exo-open --launch TerminalEmulator'.
Setting 'Preferred Applications' to 'X Terminal' launches an xterm successfully as expected.

Im trying to instal Sun Virtualbox but when download completes and I click on install I get the following error>>Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) I wont even bother with this software if there are others out there that are as easy to use. I used it on Windows and thought it was great ! (thats how I eventually switched to Linux, by using it virtually at first)

I'm getting the following message when attempting to install or upgrade a package. Not sure if it's a bug or not, which is why I'm hesitating to file it as a bug.

I installed fedora 11 and configured xdsl(pppoe). I then performed an upgrade and installed some apps. Internet still worked before the restart.After that even though i could activate the device, i cannot view websites. I get a server not found error message. I have tried using both firefox and konqueror. Internet works in windowsIs this due to the upgrade? If so which upgrade would have caused the error?How do i resolve it

I'm running slackware64-current and have no problems building packages from .SlackBuild scripts except for GCC. When I build the package there are no errors but I get a message saying - "No symbolic links were found, so we won't make an installation script. You can make your own later in ./install/doinst.sh and rebuild the package if you like." The created package contains only directories - Creating Slackware package: /tmp/gcc-objc-4.4.3-x86_64-2.txz

I just updated to 10.04 LTS & I would like to edit my grub menu to get rid of the unneeded entries.
When I enter /etc/default/grub into terminal It gives me bash: /etc/default/grub: Permission denied.
From what I have read I just need to put # in front of what I don't want to see in the menu, but I'm unable to access the file to make the changes.
I would also like to make a backup of the file first before editing it.

I am using debian on kernel 2.6.38-2-amd64 with Kde 4 and I have one sound card integrated on my mother board (Asus A8N32-Sli Deluxe) with Nvidia CK804.
Often when I start debian I get a message that sound card wasn't found, therefore from the Konsole I have to reload the as:

The last few times, I booted ubuntu, the automatic disk check ran and told me that there were "serious errors on /". This had happened once before but that time, I found nothing wrong on booting into ubuntu. However, this time, the scan doesn't seem to progress any further after detecting the error. I installed lighttpd to be able to view cgi files that display the status of my UPS. For the most part is has worked w/o incident i.e. until recently when the UPS battery failed on my APC backups xs 1500 lcd. I could not view the multimon.cgi file via the localhost or 127.0.0.1 url e.g.: [URL]... I'd get 404 page not found message. After checking links here and on the web, I tried: [URL]... The page is displayed. From this discovery, I'm not sure that this is a web server configuration or a network host configuration issue or what. I'm running Lucid with all updates, no mods to lighttpd except I added the mod_fastcgi line to the lighttpd.conf file
