Software :: Trying To Demux VOB - Subtitles Show Up In Video Stream
Jan 28, 2010I am trying to demux a set of VOB's from a DVD. I want to be able to extract any video/audio/subtitle/closed caption stream to a raw file. Then I want to wrap the streams that I want into an MKV file. (Probably the video, best quality audio, and all of the subtitles. But who knows, maybe all the streams...) To extract the mpeg2 video from the VOB (which I pulled off the DVD using vobcopy) I am trying to use this command:

The problem is, that when I open output.mpeg in something like VLC, the subtitles are still there. I can turn them on/off, but I don't understand why they are there. FYI: if I do -f mpeg2video, I get the same exact output, checked with an md5sum.

I'm especially curious about that "max_analyze_duration reached" line.

Oct 22, 2010Some DVDs do often have some scenes with foreign languages translated by forced subtitles.Mplayer gives the possibility to enable or disable subtitles.But if enabled you see the whole movie subtitles unnecessarily.If disabled there are no subtitles altough they were necessary translating some scenes with foreign languages.

To register the data source its 'FILE'> 'WIZARDS' then' ADDRESS DATA SOURCE.' But OO doesn't show the 'ADDRESS DATA SOURCE' at the bottom of the list, so I am stuck. Apart from that, I have had no problems with ubuntu and its working well.

Jun 20, 2011After installing proprietary graphics drivers for AMD A-50 APU graphics performance has been greatly increased. But two new problems have come up.
1. While playing video files clicking menus doesn't show anything, the video forcibly overrides the menus.
2. Videos always take the focus over other windows and applications.
For example, see the attached screenshot where actually terminal should come to the focus, but the video is overriding it.

Mar 15, 2010I'm using Kaffeine 1.0-svn3 from Packman repo on openSuse 11.2 with KDE 4.3.5. In Kaffeine, I can not find the menu where I can choose the subtitles. (I want to watch an avi-file with a separate subtitle-file in srt format). With openSuse 11.0, KDE 3.5.8. and an older version of Kaffeine, there was a possibility to select subtitle files (srt).

Now, I've found the tutorial that says how to use the right filter with avidemux, but I was wondering what the easiest way is to create the file for that filter to read. Is it just a matter of manually writing it up in my fav text editor? something that looks like

I want to embed the subtitle file permanently in the films, so I can subsequently combine the 2 video files (and so have continous playback).
I've tried playing about with Avidemux but no joy so far. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

May 13, 2010I have just upgraded to Lucid. While trying to watch movies (i have installed all the requisite plugins), I encountered certain problems. The following is what I noticed after some thorough search into the issue:
1. Suppose one goes to the location of a video file, say, /Home/Videos/Sound of Music.xyz , double clicking the file would open the movie player (Totem) but one would not be able to see any video, though sound is coming.
2. Sometimes, on entering the fullscreen the video started from double clicking the file is visible, but leaving full screen, it is lost again. This however doesnt happen in all cases, because mostly one sees no video if through double-clicking the file.
3. The same operation of playing, if done through the player (by /Movie/Open.. or by Adding a video file in the playlist) happens quite properly.
4. A .mkv file doesnt play for long, since the player crashes.
5. Subtitles are not detected, even after putting the settings on automatic loading of subtitles (/Edit/Preferences/Automatically.....)

Oct 14, 2010Anyway since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 when I right-click on something and there is another menu in that menu, it doesn't show up for the first time!
for example if I want to create a an "Empty File", I'll right-click on desktop and when I want to go to "Create Document" menu, it doesn't show up! so I must click somewhere else and try again so for the second time it works!!

When measuring the size of the source and of the result of the copy du -sl returns slightly different sizes, even though diff confirms that their content are identical.Both folders reside on the same hard drive, no modifications to any of them have been done between the copy and the measure. I found nothing in the documentation of du and cp which could explain the difference.

However, when I view it I get a video box, but it is grey and will not play a video. I keep playing with the various attributes but the result always seems to be the same. Feb 4, 2010I can not see incoming video on Skype.
Okay, so I have Skype installed, and it has worked fine in the past. I have been able to chat with my girlfriend on it. We can see each other and both talk. I haven't used it in probably 3 or 4 months. I tried to use it last night and for some reason, I could not see her on the video. It would just show up as a white box where the video should be. She could see me, and we could hear each other. I already had her test with somebody else to check if her video output was okay, and it worked just fine.
I read something that Cairo Dock could somehow be affecting it, but I haven't tested this theory. I can't see how the two could be related.
