General :: Why Does Du -sl Show Different Sizes For Source And Result Of Cp -rl?

Jul 14, 2011

I have used cp -rl to copy a folder. When measuring the size of the source and of the result of the copy du -sl returns slightly different sizes, even though diff confirms that their content are identical. Both folders reside on the same hard drive, no modifications to any of them have been done between the copy and the measure. I found nothing in the documentation of du and cp which could explain the difference.

General :: How Are The Font Sizes Calculated

Feb 12, 2010

We talk about 12pt, 14pt font sizes. Do those numbers represent physical size in some unit or number of pixels? I guess it is the former, because same font size looks different for different DPI values, but in what unit? Also a relevant question: does browsers like firefox and chromium use different system of font sizes, because to get the same physical size, I alwasy need to set larger values in firefox than in other applications. Setting dpi and resolution values using about:config has no effect.

General :: Different Sizes In Data After Resizing Logical Volume?

Jul 7, 2010

I recently resized one of my Logical Volumes that contained 160MB data from 500MB to 6.5GB. After resizing it, I checked the size of the data via 'du -sh' and found that my data had reduced to 143MB.

Fortunately, I backed up the the 160MB of data on another partition before resizing the Logical Volume. I ran 'diff' on both directories holding the 160MB and 143MB, but there was no difference detected.

how come there is a 17MB difference after resizing?

In case you're wondering how I performed my resize, this is what i did:

e2fsck -f /dev/VolGroup01/LogVol00
lvextend -L +6G /dev/VolGroup01/LogVol00
resize2fs -p /dev/VolGroup01/LogVol00

Apr 28, 2011

I configured it to use IMAP to access our exchange 2010 server front end on a LAN connection. Our webmail connection is segregated behind Forefront, so it was not connecting/authing that way. Even though smartphones have no problem. (sidenote, is there an activesync linux mail client ?)

I have many root folders and several folders underneath my inbox. total mailsize in inbox is 3.5 GB without subfolders. The sent is likewise as large. And is likewise empty.

Things I checked already:
View is all
Folder subscription is on and local copy is on

More info:
Thunderbird worky fine.
But thunderbird is missing calender
Tried adding lightening, but it won't add into thunderbird.
Will try finding a diff add on, or if anyone knows how to get lightening into thunderbird 3.1.8 on ubuntu 10 that would be great as well.

General :: Execute Command Inside First Directory Of Each Matched Result?

I am working at a client who has a project where code is a mixture of different source control systems. So a layout might be like this

project/a/.svn
/a/subfolder/.svn
/b/.hg
/c/subproject/.svn
/d/.hg

So I am trying to put together a simple command that when executed from the project folder will run the appropriate hg/svn command in each project i.e:

Since the client has many such projects, Instead I am looking for a solution similar to find -exec where the svn/hg commands are automatically executed on each first level of match (i.e. svn up is run in the project/a folder but not in project/a/subfolder). How can such a command be constructed ?.

General :: Minimalist Server - LFS Too Complicated And Time Consuming For End Result

Oct 7, 2010

I am wanting to create the smallest server I can possible. I have a small server I use as a print server and for file sharing. The hard drive is about 80GB. Since I only run cups and samba, I see no reason to take up an addition few GBs with major distros just to run the OS. I know it is possible to get a small distro around 50MB or so. I would even be happy with an OS running around 200MB. what would be the best way to go about doing this? LFS is just too complicated and time consuming for the end result. Would something like Gentoo be better? Anything else that I may not know about?
