Is it possible to download MySQL, Apache and PHP first? And install them on Ubuntu system offline. Is anybody know how can I get them and install them?
I have to install LAMP server on many system for the purpose of training. So I don't want to download them repeatably. Once download them, install on all system.
I have an offline computer with centos5.5 running on it. I want to do some tests on mediawiki or any other opensource tools. However, I can't access localhost from the browser because I don't have a webserver. How do I install apache or LAMP in general without the "yum" command? Where can I find all the dependencies needed?

I need to first point out that I am a complete n00b when it comes to Ubuntu Server, and I managed to install Ubuntu Server 10.04.1 (on a screen-less Acer Aspire 5100 laptop) with Apache2, MySQL, OpenSSH, & PHP5. I currently have this server (hosting my website) behind a linksys router with only port 22, and 80 forwarded to its ip address. Now my question is: Would it be safe to configure a print server on the same machine in order to print from the 3 other computers on my router to one printer, or are there security risks involved (like what I have heard with LAMP servers and Samba on the same machine)? I am also wondering if it is safe the way I configured port 80 & 22? It has extremely long passwords, and I also went through the secure installation of one of the programs setting a root password too... But can somebody please help me with my server? I am very surprised I have gone this far in my first 2 weeks of my Web Scripting class too!

Essentially I'm trying to build a LAMP server (PHP) on my Mac Mini using VMWare Fusion 3 using Linux Server 9.10. To start, it's not going well at all. I am completely new to Debian . My aim is to get one of my machines to run this system as the intranet server including www server, mailing server, intranet server and LAMP at the same time on the small network. I have found some resources including how-to's how to install Debian as the normal operative OS not as the intranet server. I would like to implement something when a server is offline for whatever reason. For example. I got my own DNS servers and webservers. I would like it if the users goes to www.somedomain.com and the server it is actually on is down for maint. or For whatever not able to respond. What can be done so that if the server isn't able to be contacted that it can point to either a another server or the dns somehow can display a page stating who to contact to report a problem or to let them know its down for maint. And can goto a site to check the status or whatever.

I am wanting to install blueman to tether my iPhone. I cannot find a .deb of it, so downloaded the tar.gz but the stock install doesnt have a compiler. I could download and copy over a compiler, but I'm guessing I'm going to be here hours copying over each dependancy that I come across (I'm guessing there may be a few) how I can tether my iPhone or how I can install blueman? I had a working LAMP server on my old server. After a HD went out and was replaced I rebuilt my server with Ubuntu 10.10 server. Talk about a smooth and impressive install. I set up my Apache server and MySQL and even installed php5 just like I had done before on my old server. The only thing different I did with this install is with Apache. I now host 3 websites with virtual hosts. This is the only thing different I have done than the last time.
My problem now is my website won't display PHP. I didn't know I had this problem until I installed Drupal for a friend to play around with. Drupal won't finish the installation process because it claims: In your ./sites/default/settings.php file you have configured Drupal to use a server, however your PHP installation currently does not support this database type.
Know I have googled this phrase to hell and back to find a resolution and haven't. I even talked to my local linux guru at work and he refereed me here. I have tried reinstalling php left and right. I'm convinced that there is an option to enable php globally that I'm missing. I really think the virtual hosts is what is causing this trouble. I'm running with Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop edition and I have LAMP server installed on the machine. I'm wanting to host my Automotive Detailing website that I'm almost done with off of that server. View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to somehow do a yum installation (or equivalent of) on a system that is offline with no access to the internet. (I do have access to another Linux system that has internet access, but the Linux installations on both systems have different packages installed and enabled.)
Let's say the command to enter is 'yum install pkg1 pkg2 pkg3' (the documentation for some applications I need indicate the installation instructions this way, and not as the actual RPMs I need). Is there a way for me to run that on my offline system?
e.g. one way I can think of is to run that command on the online system, somehow if possible take note of what RPMs get installed, then transfer them to the offline system via USB and install all the RPMs via rpm command.
The problem with my above idea is that the two systems have different packages enabled, so even if yum on the online system shows a few dependencies being downloaded, I could run download and install all these RPMs and their dependencies on the offline system only to find several more missing dependencies, and dependencies of those dependencies.
I set up a LAMP server using tasksel and it works great, but I'm not sure about much of the specifics of it. It just works and I have not had a need to find out much about it. So I was wondering if installing updates through the update manager could possible break my LAMP server and if so what types of updates should I look for that could break it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI thought I would play around with php for a while and so set forth to configure apache. Whilst I was reading a website for installing LAMP stuff on ubuntu I thought I would give it a go. I installed a LAMP server with:
sudo tasksel install lamp-server
and lo and behold it crashed my operating system upon restart. So both my laptop and desktop were toast.
Everything is reinstalled now so is fine and I have installed apache2 and php5 from separate packages. The one thing that's troubling me is why it crashed. It seemed to uninstall vlc media player, m-player and gnome-player as well as removing the "switch accounts" button on the lock screen. Does anyone know 1) why it died and/or 2) why it chose to eliminate those programs specifically.

Alright I have just got done installing Ubuntu 10.10 and Lamp, now I know I need to move all my website files to Var/WWW. Well there is a little problem, when I try to delete the two test pages or even edit them. Ubuntu tells me i do not have permission. And what confuses me the most is i installed the damn OS and i was the first account made one it i am an admin and i still cant delete

Or do i need to change them over.There is several hundred gigs of data on the hard drives and i do not relish the job of converting them.Also can you just mount the ntfs shares that are on the windows machine with the ubuntu machine using a intranet type setup
