View 7 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to download MySQL, Apache and PHP first? And install them on Ubuntu system offline. Is anybody know how can I get them and install them?
I have to install LAMP server on many system for the purpose of training. So I don't want to download them repeatably. Once download them, install on all system.
Is there a non-root, portable distribution of MySQL for Linux? I need to do some testing on a server that I do not have root access to.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to somehow do a yum installation (or equivalent of) on a system that is offline with no access to the internet. (I do have access to another Linux system that has internet access, but the Linux installations on both systems have different packages installed and enabled.)
Let's say the command to enter is 'yum install pkg1 pkg2 pkg3' (the documentation for some applications I need indicate the installation instructions this way, and not as the actual RPMs I need). Is there a way for me to run that on my offline system?
e.g. one way I can think of is to run that command on the online system, somehow if possible take note of what RPMs get installed, then transfer them to the offline system via USB and install all the RPMs via rpm command.
The problem with my above idea is that the two systems have different packages enabled, so even if yum on the online system shows a few dependencies being downloaded, I could run download and install all these RPMs and their dependencies on the offline system only to find several more missing dependencies, and dependencies of those dependencies.
I think this goes here, but I'm not sure. I decided that XAMPP had been troublesome enough. MySQL never worked. So I decided to instal the LAMP stack offered by YaST. I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:
Code:
the-matrix:~ # mysql start
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) or
Code:

I have a laptop on a wireless network in a apartment building, but the server is in the manager's office, the signal is real good. I also have a desktop with no wireless or wired connection. My question is how do I transfer my apps from my laptop to my desktop in offline mode?
I don't want to install a wireless card for my desktop. Is there a way to install synaptic while offline? Or is there a way to install these apps from a flash drive to my desktop, if so how would I do that?
I'm missing some features only available from MySQL 5.5.6 and therefore neither Debian's archive or dotdeb supports my needs Is it difficult (link / guide) to compile MySQL myself from my Mac or virtual debian and then distribute it to my servers, will it likely cause more problems and will I be able to compile upgrades later or change back to Debian archive (or dotdeb) when they are releasing a sufficient version? I've been administrating my servers for 2 years now and have some knowledge how things is working :-)

I installed LaMp 2 days ago. First everything works; But until yesterday, I can't start anymore mysql server : it failed each time.
When I look at the status :

It's like it can't generate mysqld.sock
Code: Select all/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed

Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' exists!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just have a quick question. I was following a Snort setup guide and it told me to do apt-get install snort-mysql. I just wanted to understand the functionality of such a command where you specify a program and then do a -mysql (snort-mysql). Does this configure an SQL database for that specific application or what?

i'm trying to install mysql-server on my pc. so i type this on my terminal:
Code:
sudo apt-get install mysql-server
it starts to download & install everything, but when it has to configure the server, it simply "freeze" and does nothing!
how can i solve that? i've tried to purge and reinstall, but it was no use!
I was running Ubuntu 9.10 and had the MySQL datadir moved to a different directory, /store/mysql. Due to a filesystem problem on the upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04, I was forced to reinstall. My /store/mysql was copied back over, changes to /etc/mysql/my.cnf and /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld, but MySQL hangs when I go to start it and nothing is showing up in any of the logs. How do I get MySQL to recognize the datadir from the previous install?
