Alright I have just got done installing Ubuntu 10.10 and Lamp, now I know I need to move all my website files to Var/WWW. Well there is a little problem, when I try to delete the two test pages or even edit them. Ubuntu tells me i do not have permission. And what confuses me the most is i installed the damn OS and i was the first account made one it i am an admin and i still cant delete
View 5 RepliesI am slowly learning Linux by bringing up a server. Using tasksel, I installed the LAMP-server, which went fine. Now, however, I have mucked about with various config files and made the setup unusable. I'd like to do uninstall all of the LAMP packages and do a clean (and more thoughtful) install. Here's the problem: tasksel returns an "aptitude failed (100)" error. I have search various forums and all of the help related to this error (which I can't actually find *explained* anywhere) is related to installing packages. I tried them anyway, without success. man pages and the stack of manuals I have don't seem to be of much help either.
- describe what the error message means?
- a way to remove the packages or the config files by hand?

I have setup Claws Mail but when I delete an email within the client it remains on the server. I remember this being the same for other email clients. Is there any client that will stay in sync? If I delete an email from within the client it will also be deleted from Hotmail's web bases interface.

The other profiles on the computer are acting normal but I believe mine is acting strangely because of the way I had my desktop set up before I upgraded (conky and a terminal on my desktop, compiz). Is there a way to reset my account to the default settings? I figured if I could delete my account and recreate it everything would be okay but I can not delete the account.

I am completely new to Debian . My aim is to get one of my machines to run this system as the intranet server including www server, mailing server, intranet server and LAMP at the same time on the small network. I have found some resources including how-to's how to install Debian as the normal operative OS not as the intranet server. I had a working LAMP server on my old server. After a HD went out and was replaced I rebuilt my server with Ubuntu 10.10 server. Talk about a smooth and impressive install. I set up my Apache server and MySQL and even installed php5 just like I had done before on my old server. The only thing different I did with this install is with Apache. I now host 3 websites with virtual hosts. This is the only thing different I have done than the last time.
My problem now is my website won't display PHP. I didn't know I had this problem until I installed Drupal for a friend to play around with. Drupal won't finish the installation process because it claims: In your ./sites/default/settings.php file you have configured Drupal to use a server, however your PHP installation currently does not support this database type.
Know I have googled this phrase to hell and back to find a resolution and haven't. I even talked to my local linux guru at work and he refereed me here. I have tried reinstalling php left and right. I'm convinced that there is an option to enable php globally that I'm missing. I really think the virtual hosts is what is causing this trouble. I'm running with Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop edition and I have LAMP server installed on the machine. I'm wanting to host my Automotive Detailing website that I'm almost done with off of that server. I build a LAMP server behind a router.The current situation is:1.I could access index.html of apache within the LAN.2.I could access the vsftp outside of the LAN.3.I could access the ssh outside of the LAN.I have configured my router to do reflections(although I don't know it's correct or not.). I think the LAMP works good since I could use it inside the LAN. The configuration of the router is at least partly right because ssh and vsftp work fine(I test by browsing the ip:74.***.***.*** in the lan, not 192.168.1.8 --this also works. ).I cannot access web service outside the LAN.
