CentOS 5 :: Installing LAMP On Offline Machine
Feb 17, 2011
I have an offline computer with centos5.5 running on it. I want to do some tests on mediawiki or any other opensource tools. However, I can't access localhost from the browser because I don't have a webserver. How do I install apache or LAMP in general without the "yum" command? Where can I find all the dependencies needed?

Is it possible to download MySQL, Apache and PHP first? And install them on Ubuntu system offline. Is anybody know how can I get them and install them?
I have to install LAMP server on many system for the purpose of training. So I don't want to download them repeatably. Once download them, install on all system.

I've run into a weird problem. Two of my linux machines (A and B, both running CentOS 5.5) are connected to the same wall ethernet socket via a hub. Bothf them are configured for static IPs. The trouble is that when machine B goes offline or hits a kernel panic, machine 1 goes offline too. What I've noticed is that in this condition the "route" output from machine A does not show any entry for the default gateway either The contents of /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 for machine A are:
Code:
# Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller
DEVICE=eth0
[code]...

Can I do a fresh install of CentOS Linux on a remote machine? I have a machine with Windows NT in a remote location. Now I want to use that system as my deployment machine. To proceed with my plan I need to install a Linux OS (have chosen CentOS). The guy there with the machine is not very knowledgeable of the installation process of any OS. So I thought I could install CentOS remotely.how I can achieve this?

Being rather new to using Ubuntu on my personal system, I was reading about conky today. Sadly, I can't currently connect my netbook to my workplace network, and won't be able to use it on the 'net until I get back on land. That being the case, I can't just do:
Code:
sudo apt-get install conky
I was curious if there is any way to get conky on my machine... either by downloading it on another machine and installing via USB, or some other way. Or if I'm pretty much out of luck until I can get online with it?

I'm a web developer and I am building a site on a CMS that has issues moving from a WAMP server to LAMP. The live server is LAMP and I am running Windows 7. I don't want to run into problems moving from the test server to the live server, so I was wondering if I could somehow run Linux using a virtual machine (using Windows Virtual PC which I think supports Linux or VirtualBox) and then using a Linux equivalent of WAMP2 server as a test server. how to do this and what the best Linux distribution to use would be?

I am a total noob with regards Linux so will undoubtedly frequent this board asking some lame questions in the coming weeks. At present I am trying to setup a LAMP Server on an old desktop machine I have lying about, however there is not going to be a keyboard, monitor or mouse attached beyond the installation process. My question simply is am I best installing the server or desktop version of Ubuntu for this requirement?
I have been playing with Desktop 9.04 and found it tough to use headlessly, however understand that Server 9.04 fully supports headless access. Being a newbie I do prefer to use the GUI to make changes and generally play around, so a UI such as GNOME would be essential. Having read about I understand the best way to access remotely is to install SSHServer and VNCServer and then login over SSH and VNC into the box.My remote machine I will use to connect to Ubuntu is a Windoze 7/XP machine.

How can I run LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) in a virtual machine (Ubuntu in virtual box) and make it so the web server is accessible locally (and ONLY locally) on the host OS via an ip address?

I'm quite new to Linux/CentOS. I installed LAMP from official CentOS repositories and I'm wondering why the PHP (5.1.6) or MySQL (5.0.77) versions are so old. Why there is now the latest versions available.
Is it recommended to use these versions or should I update to the newest one - if so could you plesae provide me some links to official repositories&tutorials.

When I try to install the pattern "lamp_server" with zypper on a fresh openSUSE 11.3 box I'm only getting the metapackage "patterns-openSUSE-lamp_server" installed, nothing else.Apache, MySQL, and PHP are all listed as "recommended" only.I know how to install the packages individually, and I know I can force matters with the "--recommended" flag. Unfortunately installing the recommended packages also wants to throw in apparmor and sw_management, neither of which I want right now.Am I overlooking something? The command I used:zypper install -t pattern lamp_serverMy main goal is to communicate this process to others, so I'd like to give them the option of the simpler pattern install.

I have 3 virtual machines set up. 2 are servers and one is a client. On one of the servers I have installed apache, mysql, and php and mod_ssl. I can get to the web site on the server from my client system. I can even get to the info php site--the screen that shows everything about php (it's purplish!) I can also get to the secure https site. The one thing I can't do is get my table to display.I have set up a new user in mysql. I have granted that user all privileges. I have created a table on a new database in mysql. I then set up php code within html code But every time I try to go to my test.php site it only gives me the header. It obviously cannot find the table array. This is the code and someone already told me it looked right to them. So I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

I have Debien 7.8 Wheezy installed on my laptop, along with the GNOME desktop. As I absolutely hate the new GNOME layout I want to install MATE so I can get the classic GNOME 2 desktop back. But I have no internet connection here at home (I only have my phone for internet and I can't tether it).
So I'm wondering if it's possible for me to download all the packages and install MATE offline? I don't even know what all the packages are that I need.I can download the packages with my phone with no issue.
I installed Debian on my laptop with the Debian DVDs in case you were wondering. when I downloaded the Debian DVD ISOs, I only saw three ISO files, but the documentation said that it's a 10 DVD set. What happened to the other 7 DVD ISOs?

End of my first week after using ubuntu. I have setup LAMP for the purposes of my own coding education, place to run php and python scripts.
LAMP seems to be setup fine and working - I even got php5 working with it - however I am having a lot more trouble getting python to work in much the same manner.
I have downloaded the mod_python from [URL], unzipped it, tried to run ./configure and it said apxs was not installed.
After some reading it turns out I had to remove some apache-fork something and install apache-devfork (please forgive lack of exact names).
After doing this the ./configure on mod_python passed the "finding apxs" test but then said it can't find apache2 at /sbin/apache2 and again aborted the configure.
running 10.4 (lucid)

Windows XP Pro, VMware and Kubuntu as the guest. Tried several different ways of adding LAMP server, via the Konsole and also via Synatpic and although I can get into localhost and it says "it works" doesn't actually take me to a list which includes the links to Apache and phpmyadmin like some tuts show. Also if I make the php test page that also works, but I cannot get phpmyadmin to work. When I look in the var/www folder there are only 3 files there and not the apache2 and phpmyadmin folders as shown on a lullabot tutorial.

I am looking for the CentOS LAMP system (all in one) that can fit onto a CD or a DVD. When I check the download section there are 6 files of 700MBs or so. How come there are CentOS versions of Asterisk (for example Trixbox) that has LAMP and CentOS 5 and yet fits on one CD?
Is that a stripped down version? if so, can you please guide me to a simple CentOS version on this site so that I can download it and build LAMP on it?
