I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and I just recently installed a LAMP server for some minor local web development.
Used the sudo tasksel command to install lamp but I can't get phpmyadmin to work nor can I access mysql.
removing the LAMP and starting all over again.
How do I go about this?
I've been searching around the net how to do this but I can't find any clues. I did this:

I am trying to uninstall my LAMP server and my Drupal 7 installation. Unfortunately I cannot find any instructions on uninstalling Druapl from my system. The ones that exist are far too old( < 2008 ) to be relevant. Could someone please direct me how to go about this? Note: I did not use Synaptic for installation. I downloaded the file from the drupal.org site.

But I keep getting an error message:
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock -open (11: resource Temporarily Disable)
E: Unable to unlock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
Then I typed: /var/lib/dpkg/lock -open
Then I got the following message:
bash: /var/lib/dpkg/lock: permission denied
What does all of this mean? How come this file is locked and requires admin permission?

I then used a conkyrc that I found on an internet tutorial. It seemed to run okay but it was very ugly so I tweaked a few variables. However, after doing so, I couldn't get conky to work again. So, just to see if it was the variables that I set which could have broke it, I changed the conkyrc file back to that ugly one which worked before. I then tried to run conky again and this time it didn't work either.
I then decided to remove conky in an effort to reinstall the conky, this time just conky as opposed to conky-all. I used:

Thinking that I had successfully removed conky, I did another apt-get to install conky. When I couldn;t get that one to work, I tried to remove it. However, this time I decided to check and see if it was actually removed, by using:

I'm having a little problem because I've installed xampp, but can't start it because it seems there's already an apache installation in my ubuntu
I've confirmed this by browsing to http://127.0.0.1 , and by doing px ax | grep apache

Now I'd like to know how to stop this apache, remove from startup, and uninstall safely so I use xampp's apache instead.
1) Check if MySql is installed and running
2) How can I connect to create my db. (I want to do it from CLI not using an admin tool)
3) And if I have problems how can I make a clean uninstall/remove.
I was making some tests and I could see that ubuntu software management systems doesn't delete user data when uninstalling applications, only the binary packages.
e.g. reinstalling Thunderbird won't delete the email accounts info.
When Ubuntu Software Centre removes software, it leaves files behind in File System which is owned by Root preventing me from deleting them.
1. Could this be why Update Manager is insisting that I install updates for software that I have removed and do not use?
2. There is one application I would like to re-install because it asked me technical questions before I installed it. I think I gave the wrong answer and when I re-installed it, it didn't ask the question again. It seems likely that there is a file somewhere that Ubuntu Software Centre didn't remove, and I could do with deleting but is owned by Root. How do I do this?
3. Should I have posted this query under 'Absolute Beginner Talk?'. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx.
as much as i am one for saving space and throwing out the trash. now my problem is the fact that I DO NOT WANT THIS program (localepurge) running on my system. i look and did everything i could. note : i am a noobie. when i config the program from the start i told it NO don't delete anything. and now that i have done some reading i do not want it working period. i could not find a way to disable or uninstall localepurge.

I found that 'Software Manager' can also be used to uninstall the package, so I use it to uninstall pidgin. The problem is after I pressed 'Apply' button, there are so many package installing by themselves. I saw that most of them are appended with '-lang'.

I am completely new to Debian . My aim is to get one of my machines to run this system as the intranet server including www server, mailing server, intranet server and LAMP at the same time on the small network. I have found some resources including how-to's how to install Debian as the normal operative OS not as the intranet server. View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a working LAMP server on my old server. After a HD went out and was replaced I rebuilt my server with Ubuntu 10.10 server. Talk about a smooth and impressive install. I set up my Apache server and MySQL and even installed php5 just like I had done before on my old server. The only thing different I did with this install is with Apache. I now host 3 websites with virtual hosts. This is the only thing different I have done than the last time.
My problem now is my website won't display PHP. I didn't know I had this problem until I installed Drupal for a friend to play around with. Drupal won't finish the installation process because it claims: In your ./sites/default/settings.php file you have configured Drupal to use a server, however your PHP installation currently does not support this database type.
Know I have googled this phrase to hell and back to find a resolution and haven't. I even talked to my local linux guru at work and he refereed me here. I have tried reinstalling php left and right. I'm convinced that there is an option to enable php globally that I'm missing. I really think the virtual hosts is what is causing this trouble. View 2 Replies View RelatedI thought I would play around with php for a while and so set forth to configure apache. Whilst I was reading a website for installing LAMP stuff on ubuntu I thought I would give it a go. I installed a LAMP server with:
sudo tasksel install lamp-server
and lo and behold it crashed my operating system upon restart. So both my laptop and desktop were toast.
Everything is reinstalled now so is fine and I have installed apache2 and php5 from separate packages. The one thing that's troubling me is why it crashed. It seemed to uninstall vlc media player, m-player and gnome-player as well as removing the "switch accounts" button on the lock screen. Does anyone know 1) why it died and/or 2) why it chose to eliminate those programs specifically.
