Ubuntu :: Can't Connect To A Wired Or Wireless Network?

Aug 11, 2010

I have a laptop with Ubuntu 9.04 on it. I wanted to try out fluxbox, so I did a apt-get install fluxbox. When I went into fluxbox, I was having trouble getting connected to my network wirelessly. I saw a post online that said to install wicd. So I did a apt-get install wicd. This removed the Gnome network manager (nm-applet) which I didn't realize that it would do. I removed wicd when I saw this is what happened, and now I can't connect to a wired or wireless network. I tried connecting to my wired network, and I ran

Code:
sudo ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.115

but I still can't access the internet, or other things on the network.

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.04 Cannot Connect To The Network - Wired Or Wireless

May 5, 2010

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on an HP Pavilion dv6000 series laptop, dual-boot. Everything is working except the networking. It can see wireless networks, and when I type in the password for my wireless network, it tries to connect, then asks for the password again. When I plug in the Ethernet cable, again it tries to connect, but after a few seconds gives up and tells me I am now offline.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Connect To Any Network Wired Or Wireless

Nov 30, 2010

I am unable to connect to any network, wired or wireless. Network-manager and wicd are both gone, as in no longer installed. Please don't tell me to apt-get anything. I have no network connection. I have tried downloading packages for nm onto a usb stick only to find myself in dependency hell which ended with the impassible error "Requires installation of untrusted packages".

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Can't Connect To WEP Network, WPA Works Fine?

Sep 2, 2011

I am unable to connect to a WEP-protected network. the Network manager log shows either a DHCP timeout, or a failure to associate. (attached below).Changing to WPA is not an option, as the network is not controlled by me. This is with the rt61pci driver for a Ralink 2500 series chipset.(Rosewill RNX-G300EX card)Manually forcing an IP does not result in a connection either. This is with the latest OpenSuSE 11.4, all patches applied. Router is a D-Link DIR-613, and I know the passphrase I'm using is correct because it connects both on my Android (what else?) phone, and my lappy when I boot XP.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wired Works Wireless Does Not Work

Jan 10, 2010

I have recently bought a new laptop for this purpose. It is a Toshiba L555D-103. It was pre installed with Windows 7 (64 bit). I have now installed Ubuntu 9.10 (32 bit). It works perfectly when wired. But it does not when I try it wireless. It did work wirelessly with Windows 7, and I have many more both stationary and laptops working through the router, so I do not think the router is the problem.I am guessing that there are no drivers for the wireless to function, but I am not sure. I am guessing that there are no drivers for the Ethernet card ?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Works - Wired Doesn't ?

Jan 31, 2010

I recently got a cable modem from Comcast, and connected a Belkin F5D7230-4 wireless router to it, then connected my computer and an Xbox 360 to the router with ethernet cables.

My computer dual-boots Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7. In either operating system, the wireless connection is flawless. In Windows, so is the wired connection. But in Ubuntu, there's a lot of trouble with the wired connection -- specifically, while I can connect to the router and to the Internet, and while I can use ping, dig, traceroute, etc., to verify connections to remote hosts, Web browsing, or anything else that uses http, works only for a few Websites, and then only erratically.

I don't believe it is a DNS problem -- testing with ping, dig, etc., demonstrates that, and I have also tried using alternate nameservers. I also don't believe that it is an issue with IPv6, as I've tried the fixes usually suggested, including editing the grub configuration to disable IPv6 support in the kernel and verifying that IPv6 was inactive. I've also tried using local dns servers such as pdns-recursor. None of these things seemed to help.

Also, perhaps unrelated, but disturbing: my computer has locked up a few times while testing the wired connection, and I had to use a hard reset to restart the computer.

OpenSUSE Network :: Wired Internet Only Works When It Wants Too

Mar 6, 2010

my problem is that the wired internet is working on and off, or not even that, only when it wants too. I have googled and googled, which by the way is not loading at all at the moment, and have not found anything. And i really don't know what's wrong. Some more details: 1) Finished installing suse 11.2 with gnome, yesterday. Internet, and google worked fine right off the bat. I have a laptop and so i suspended it to see if everything was working. 2) Bring back the laptop, no internet. I reboot, internet works (google included). 3) I leave the laptop alone, it goes to sleep mode (or what comes after screensaver).

I bring it back, no internet, i reboot, no internet. So i go to windows. 4) Came back to suse, now, and i have internet and google does not load! This is all with wired internet, i haven't had a chance to try the wireless (there isn't a signal for me to try). However, i am positive it won't work with the luck i've been having. Also, a few days ago i had suse with kde and the internet worked continously. I know it can't be related to the GUI, but it's peculiar.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wired And Wireless Won't Connect?

May 5, 2011

I have recently developed a problem with my computer connecting to the internet which has totally stumped me and is currently forcing my to use windows much to my frustration. I am using ubuntu 10.04 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. My wireless and wired network connections will not connect. They are all present in the menu and i can click on them but the connection tries to connect and then just times out and fails to connect. Everything still works fine in windows Vista. The more confusing thing is i tried some live disks to see if they would work but they all did exactly the same thing including a live disk of ubuntu 9.10 which used to work perfectly and live disks of openSUSE 11.4 and Mint 10. I struggling to tell if this could be a hardware problem or not. The fact that the live disks wouldn't work suggests a hardware problem but the fact that Vista still works totally throws that argument. I have looked all over these forums and elsewhere and have found some similar ish problems but non seem to have the severity of this one as all of those seem to be wireless only problems. The only thing that i was doing at the time this started was i had just set up a new secondary user account but i suspect that may be coincidental.

Ubuntu :: Cannot Connect Wireless Through Wired Router?

Aug 13, 2011

I have searched and found no answer to this one. I have a Linksys DSL router BEFSR41 (wired) which works great. I recently got a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router. Which also works great with my Dell mini 10 netbook running 10.04. I have two computers (wired) also running 10.04, what I want to do is use both routers with only one internet DSL connection. I have the wired (Master Router) connected to the wireless (Slave Router) and I fire up the Dell it sees it and connects but I can't connect to the internet. I can connect through my network and share files through all 3 machines. Do I need to reset the wireless, to enjoy the internet? If so the wireless came without instructions or CD.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connect To The Internet Both Wired And Wireless?

I installed ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop a few days ago and love the OS so far. However, initially i could only get internet connection though an ethernet cord. After much internet searching, i finally figured out how to get wireless internet. Unfortunately, in setting up wireless internet, I no longer have wired internet. The system doesn't seem to recognize my wired internet anymore. I'd like a scenario where i can connect to the internet both wired and wireless.
