General :: Can't Connect Via Wired Internet ( Wireless Is OK ) On HP G61 Laptop With Ubuntu 10.4?
May 25, 2010
I have recently installed Ubuntu lucid lynx and at my old house I had a regular cable modem (no wifi) and never used wireless internet. I would simply unplug the ethernet from the windows desktop plug it to my laptop and I was good 2 go.have recently moved and my roommate has a cable modem w/ wifi capabilities. When I plug in I am told that I am connected but......Nothing. dont know if the problem is due to the modem having wireless capabilities when my old one did not or the fact that my roommate has a win7 laptop that is connected via wifi etc. There have been a FEW times that I have walked out plugged in and everything has ran well. when I do plug in I look under connection information and I am told that I am connected at 100Mbps but whenever I try to visit a page I am out of luck. I define newbie (as far as Linux distros) and I have tried everything including going to work w/no sleep because I'm going through massive trial & errors
My laptop has been working fine with ubuntu 10.04, and earlier today it shut down after running out of battery. I came to use itr and discovered that the wifi icon had disappeared from the panel bar, and it won't connect to the wireless networkor via a wired connection.I have had a play around with this, tried ping -c5 google.comresult was:ping: unknown host google.comand ping -c5 4.2.2.1result: onnect:etwork is unreachable.I have other computers connecting to this network and know that it is working fine.
I am a beginner to ubuntu. I have installed ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop using wubi. When I am trying to edit the IP address using network editor, apply button is not highlighted.I managed to give IP as well as netmask through command prompt. But I am not able to give gateway and dns IP.Please help me configuring this.
I have not been able to get an internet connection wired or wireless on my laptop. I downloaded the drivers from Acer's website and tried installing them using ndiswrapper. Still no luck.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my Toshiba A200-12U laptop (with an Atheros AR5007EG wireless card), but networking is being problematic.I entered Network Configurations and tried to get 'Auto eth0' working -- I went to Edit > IPv4 settings and filled in 'Addresses' with the details of my connection:
Address: 192.168.1.254 (the local IP of my router) Netmask: 255.255.252.0 Gateway: 94.195.208.1
I installed ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop a few days ago and love the OS so far. However, initially i could only get internet connection though an ethernet cord. After much internet searching, i finally figured out how to get wireless internet. Unfortunately, in setting up wireless internet, I no longer have wired internet. The system doesn't seem to recognize my wired internet anymore. I'd like a scenario where i can connect to the internet both wired and wireless.
i have installed fedora 15(lovelock) on my lenovo z560 ideapad laptop. in fedora 15 lovelock internet is not working by wire or wireless. Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4322 803.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)
[amit@localhost ~]$ ifconfig em2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 88:AE:1D:274:45 UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
I have installed slackware 13 but I am not able to connect to wired internet connection from BSNL in slackware while this connection is working fine in Fedora,Opensuse,Mandriva,Debian and Windows-XP.
I am unable to connect to the Internet using a wired connection. I was able to use the wired network yesterday. But I had problems with the flash player, so had to reinstall Ubuntu again. I am able to connect to Internet using wireless connection. But I need to connect to the wired connection. I am using Ubuntu 10. In my IPv4 settings, it is automatically set to DHCP, using which, I was earlier able to connect. But now it doesn't seem to be happening.
But there are other entries on the syslog that were recent.
in linux world and have recently downloaded and installed ubuntu desktop 10.10i cannot connect to both wired and wireless ethernet on my laptopit tries to connect but fails in 30 seconds , it says"disconnected" while i am able to connect to the same in windows i have broadcom 4315 and i have tried both fwcutter and ndiswrapper but the problem persiststhe device id is 14e4:4315
For how long I have suffered with ms. I have installed a couple of Linux versions 7-10 years back, and did not get very far with them, am still a newbie when I look at some of the stuff in Linux, but am willing to learn and am totally converted.
Am running Laptop HP Pavillion dv6000 Mint 2.6.31-14 Generic Modem Huawei E220
I have downloaded 9 files from: source code, exe x2, makefile, txt,and 2 shell script files. The exe files give me the msg "could not display file name etc" There is no app installed for exe files What dont I know and where can I find it. Would it be easier to take the machine to an internet cafe and plug in a cable to get it online, atm my other machine is a eee pc windows 7 starter and it has some weird stuff going on, says it has over 10 viruses? Anyway cant wait to get this over to Linux too.
I am using a dell laptop which has Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card. I not able to connect to internet and was not able to detect what actual problem is weather card is not supported (i.e. drivers are not available) .
Also, if any one can point to exact process to connect to wireless Lan using fedora12.
Just set up my home server (xubuntu 10.04), its wired to my router. I can connect to the server on my laptop (10.10 ubuntu) via Ethernet, but how do i go about connecting wirelessly?
I have been trying to connect to the internet with a wired LAN connection for a while now with no luck. Running version 8.04 LTS on a 32-bit desktop. Interestingly, my 64-bit desktop running version 8.04 64-bit automatically connected to the internet with no problems or input from me. Both are connected to the same router.
I figured i'd try and copy the network manager settings from the 64-bit machine to the 32-bit machine, which involved setting an automatic configuration (DHCP}. All went well except no DNS server address showed up on the 32-bit system, despite there being one on the 64-bit system. Trying to run Firefox like this results in the 'page load error' page coming up immediately.
I then manually added the DNS server address from the 64-bit system to the 32-bit system, and all that did was prolong the time it takes for the 'page load error' page to appear.
I have wired internet, but I can't connect to my modem. I have cable internet (Comcast) but my computer can't detect it. I do not know what do to. Tried a whole bunch a things, but I'm a novice, (Ubuntu 10.something I tried to call but they say everything was okay and I keep telling the Comcast lady I had Ubuntu, but apparently she insisted I had Windows. I thought they were not very smart, so I gave up on them.
I am a Ubuntu novice who recently shifted completely to Ubuntu 10.04 from Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron Mini.
1. I am able to connect to the internet ('Wired') at home but when i plug in the internet cable at work it is not connecting. It gives me the message 'Unplugged, you are now disconnected'.
2. I tried installing the Wicd network manager. Even though there are wireless networks in range it doesnt show me the wireless networks (like it used to show in wiindows).
I have read through a long list of commands in the forums of commands to be executed and executed them all but couldnt connect. Is there anything basic that I am overlooking?
I thought that wired network should work once I plug in a network cable irrespective of the place. How come I am unable to connect to the network at work? I used to have a windows 7 partition and the net connected plug and play when i was in the windows side. I dont want to install Windows just for the internet at work again.
I am the new user to LQ. I am not able to download anything from internet. And I am using ubuntu10.04. It is saying W: Failed to fetch [URL] ...untu9_i386.deb Could not connect to 172.20.0.100:8080 (172.20.0.100). - connect (113: No route to host)
This happened when I am trying to install c++ and I think there is some problem in connecting to the internet. I set proxy server address and port number in System->preferences->Network proxy settings. I think I have set the proxy settings properly. And it is working fine in win XP.
I've been running ubuntu for about 6 months, so i'm still abit of a newbie at linux but heres what im having issues with:I'm having troubles connecting to the internet on ubuntu, i have no problems connecting on xubuntu on the same machine. I can connect to my network but i cant access the internet on firefox or snaptic or any of that, but the weird thing is i can successfully ping address' in the terminal. I can also connect to my router config page in firefox using 192.168.0.1.
My internet worked perfectly about a month ago on this ubuntu install, so i cant figure out what i did to make it stop working. I think it may have something to do with the/etc/resolv.conf file because it only exists as /etc/resolv.conf.tmp and when i run "sudo dhclient wlan0" (or eth0) it says:
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo dhclient wlan0 Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Client V3.1.2 Copyright 2004-2008 Internet Systems Consortium.
currently running ubuntu 9.10, the internet connection im hooking up to is a router from a friends personal dish internet (were all deployed to Afghanistan). Here is all the static information that i need to input.now i have all this information input in windows 7 and it works fine since its all broken out exactly how it was given to me in the ipv4 settings page. wicd in ubuntu however wont use these settings.
i recently connected this router to mahh modem..http:[url]....before router connection i was able to connect to internet via "pppoeconf command" but now i am not able to connect to internet from ubuntu ..i am still using lan cable coming out or router to connect it with pc..
My landlord upstairs just got a new modem and WiFi by Clear.com and when trying to get the WiFi to work...it just wouldn't connect with my laptop. They have 2 computers upstairs, one laptop and one desktop that recognized the WiFi and don't have any trouble using it. Wondering if there is something I have accidently clicked or changed to make it not connect. It does not have an error message, it just does not connect completely.
