I installed Fedora 11 on my computer with the live cd. If I run the live cd, the network connection is active. But, after the installation the cannt connect with the wired network. I must use an internal Server to connect the www. The server controlls my mac address and if it correct, the server allow the connection. ipconfig and the network manager can read the correct mac address. Why it does not work

I just upgraded to Fedora 13 (from 10, using preupgrade), and I've gotten most things working again, but I'm still having trouble with the network.My wired connection (eth0) doesn't connect on boot (even though ONBOOT=yes in /usr/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0).Because of that, I figured I'd just leave eth0 connected manually (with ifup eth0). However, I then found that if I try to connect to a VPN like this, the system reverts to the "stalling every time I try to connect to the internet" problem that I had earlier.

Also the connection is wired one with modem only it's reliance broadband. The wire is connected between modem and pc but there is no blinking of light for this connection. The wan is active and wan's light is blinking and when I was on xp on same pc there was no such problem.
Just installed Scientific Linux 6. Does anyone know how to get it to connect to wired ethernet network?

I have a laptop with Ubuntu 9.04 on it. I wanted to try out fluxbox, so I did a apt-get install fluxbox. When I went into fluxbox, I was having trouble getting connected to my network wirelessly. I saw a post online that said to install wicd. So I did a apt-get install wicd. This removed the Gnome network manager (nm-applet) which I didn't realize that it would do. I'm stuck after a clean install of FC14 on an old Everex StepNote (Doing this for a friend). I tried Ubuntu on it first (because it's so easy) but had horrible stability issues and terminal commands wouldn't respond - however Ubuntu detected and ran the eth0 port just fine. FC14 detects my ethernet NIC, but it won't work.
Here are my details.

Here is what I have tried so far - with no luck:
- I have toggled the networking switch on the laptop and had no luck.
- Downloaded Via's VT6102 drivers for Fedora Core, but they don't support kernel 2.6.35.*
- Run ifconfig to manually assign an IP address - which it DID take and did route add default gw as well.
- Did a ifconfig eth0 down and up as well.
After all that, I still have a "disconnected" wired connection (and yes, I did check the cable - it works just fine in my personal machine.
I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on an HP Pavilion dv6000 series laptop, dual-boot. Everything is working except the networking. It can see wireless networks, and when I type in the password for my wireless network, it tries to connect, then asks for the password again. When I plug in the Ethernet cable, again it tries to connect, but after a few seconds gives up and tells me I am now offline.

I just finished installing Ubuntu 10.10 64bit. During installation Ubuntu was connected to the network and was downloading updates. After rebooting though, it cannot connect to the network.

I am attempting to connect to my Windows Computer via a wired network on a sky router. When I tried with PClinuxOS it configured automatically. With the latest version of open SuSe 13.1this is quite a bit different. I have got as far as the network being auto and active with an Icon showing on the taskbar. However when I click on the Windows network Icon SuSe tyies to locate my Computer but then comes back with " failed to reteive share list from server. This is as far as I can get after several hours of trying.
Yesterday I moved my modem (wireless) to my living room so the PS3 detected a better signal. In doing so, I had to run a new ethernet cable from my living room where the modem is into my office where the computer is. I use ubuntu 9.10
For some reason I cannot connect to the internet now. When I scroll over the connection, it says wire connection 1 is active. I have my settings manually set. I did notice the MAC address field is blank...
I didn't have an issue before, but with changing cables and whatnot, something got messed up somehow.
I am unable to connect to any network, wired or wireless. Network-manager and wicd are both gone, as in no longer installed. Please don't tell me to apt-get anything. I have no network connection. I have tried downloading packages for nm onto a usb stick only to find myself in dependency hell which ended with the impassible error "Requires installation of untrusted packages".

Issue: Using Fedora-14-x86_64-Live-Desktop.iso, I created a live usb and tried it on Dell M6400. I can boot into F14, see the internal hard-drive and other usb drives -- but F14 will not go on the network -- neither wired or wl networks.
I am not sure what additional information I need to provide to help resolve this issue. Perhaps some background info would help?: I am trying to move from XP to linux on the M6400. The latest Ubuntu live CD would not boot, the latest CentOS live CD could not find the internal drive; I got best results with the latest Fedora (and I am more comfortable with the F14 gnome interface than the F14 KDE, the Ubuntu, and the CentOS interfaces). I do not know how to investigate the inability of F14 to detect the ethernet cabled network. I was unsuccessful in my attempts to get the wireless to work: "lspci -nn" shows BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n 14e4:4326 (rev01). I read [URL]../docs/linux_sta/README.txt and used what I learned in my attempts. Installing broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-1.fc13.noarch.rpm, kmod-wl-2.6.35.6-48.fc14.x86_64-5.60.48.36-2.fc14.2.x86_64.rpm, and kmod-wl-5.60.48.36-2.fc14.2.x86_64.rpm (found at rpmfusion) did not help. I tried to build and install the sources from http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php; the machines I had for building were 2.6.28-18-generic Ubuntu, fc5, and rhel5 -- attempts with these builds failed too.
I just installed debian, durning the installation i opted not to connect to the internet since the large network cable was in the closet and i did not feel like standing up. Now i have finished installing and plugged the network cable in, expecting it to "just work", this is not the case. What needs to happen before the wired network connection starts working? also, the lspci output, appearantly it won't find any network adapter. I suspect this is the fault of my lazyness.

I'm having issues with my wired network. After about 5-10 minutes of turning on my machine, the network will drop out. Sometimes rebooting my pc or router will fix the connection, other times it will have no effect. Also, sometimes the connection will completely disconnect, other times it will appear to be connected (i.e. the network icon will indicate that there is a connection), but trying to ping a remote server or the router will fail.
This problem first showed up on Fedora 11 64, however I've just installed Fedora 13 64 and that hasn't helped. I'm using a brand new NIC (I've tried using the onboard NICs). The machine also has Windows 7 installed, which is able to connect just fine. Apart from changing NICs, the only other thing I've tried is switching from dhcp to a static IP address.
I'm trying to do a minimal install via a USB flash drive. Everything was good until it tried to recognize my network (wired). It showed "No Network Interfaces Detected" (On Ubuntu and Debian). I wish to do a minimal install since I want to install the programs I want myself. Plus, I have a small flash drive.
I'm using an Atheros AR8151 PCI-E as my card (as shown by Windows). I also have a wireless, though I don't care much about that, wired will probably be easier. When I do plug the Ethernet cable in, I don't get the lights on during Linux installation but they do come on in Windows. If I need some additional driver, can I somehow add it to the minimal installation? I was looking through the log file and found that i82365 could not be loaded, a PCMCIA controller. I'm assuming this is separate from the NIC and interfaces between the bus and the NIC.
no idea whether it's because it couldn't find the drivers or because the controller was incorrectly identified. But I'm pretty sure this is why I can't get my network card to work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 2 workstations that I'm trying to network together so that I can backup each to the other. One is XP sp2 and the other Fedora 9. Since installing Samba on the Fedora box and trying to get it configured, I have a problem that Add/remove programs won't do installs because it says there's no connection to a network. Network Manager says there aren't any connections, but it worked before the Samba install. Mozilla and Thunderbird can access the internet OK. Both workstations are connected by cable to my router and thus to my ISP (DNS server).
Two questions:- where can I find hints on setting up a wired connection (which card's MAC address does it want? router or wrkstn?) and Am I right that Add/remove is stuffed because of Network Manager?I now have Samba working from Linux to XP, but still can't get into Linux from XP. I just installed Lucid Lynx on my Dell Vostro 1000 laptop. The problem I'm having is that my wired network card has died on me prior to installation. I'm having the hardest time finding the required files to make my Broadcom BCM4311 wireless card work without being able to download any packages from the web.
