It's wierd because misses looks like more than requests. I don't know if I'm reading this right.This is just a proxy on a home network with about 6 clients connected.
I am trying to install openldap servers using the following command...rpm -i openldap-servers-2.4.22-7.fc14.i686.rpm
However the files /etc/openldap/slapd.conf and /etc/openldap/slapd.conf.bak are not getting installed.
I have run the "rpm -qlp" on the package and it says that it included both those files.
I have tried installing with the --allfile --noscripts --notriggers and --force options to see if there was something strange removing the file during installation, but the file is still not being installed.
Other files in the package appear to be installed without issue.
How can I get RPM to install these two files (the conf file is critical and it's a bit pointless to install the package without it).
I updated my netbook to the last incarnation of slackware-current yesterday.
My problem is now, that it is no more able to start the ash shell of the initial ramdisk i am using. The ramdisk was created with the latest version of the mkinitrd script.

And the error happens when the ash from the initial ramdisk is intended to be started. Simply copying the /lib/libc.so.6 stuff (symlink to the real so and the real so) enables to ash to be started but later cryptsetup fails to load.
The initial ramdisk from mid-January i used before did not have such a problem. What i also see is, that the failing ramdisk has a size of only 16k blocks. The one from mid-January was bigger.
I don't understand this error nor do I know how to solve the issue that is causing the error. Anyone care to comment?

I was laughing about klackenfus's post with the ancient RH install, and then work has me dig up an old server that has been out of use for some time. It has some proprietary binaries installed that intentionally tries to hide files to prevent copying (and we are no longer paying for support or have install binaries), so a clean install is not preferable.
Basically it has been out of commission for so long, that the apt-get upgrade DL is larger than the /var partition (apt caches to /var/cache/apt/archives).
I can upgrade the bigger packages manually until I get under the threshold, but then I learn nothing new. So I'm curious if I can redirect the cache of apt to a specified folder either on the command line or via a config setting?
I installed squid cache on my ubuntu server 10.10 and it is work fine but i want to know how to make it cache all files like .exe .mp3 .avi ....etc. and the other thing i want to know is how to make my client take the files from the cache in the full speed. since am using mikrotik system to use pppoe for clients and i match it with my ubuntu squid
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new install and I am quite surprised it just misses networking. That is, NO networking. ifconfig comes up with inly lo. Nothing else, most primal. It should use dhcp to connect, bit it fails to create the eth0 interface. Such a fundamental flaw is one I can't work on. Forget looking in network manager in the desktop, that's still being installed, I've checked the basic files in etc against karmic.

But when I highlight a word and begin typing a word to replace it (instead of deleting or hitting backspace), the first letter of the unwanted word does not erase... so I am required to watch my text very closely when editing.
For example: I'll type the word "fungus" and then highlight it and type the replacement word "mold" and when I look at the text, the word is "fmold". Am I the only one with this odd situation?
I did a clean install of 11.04 and I have experienced that my separate X-screen does not have the program-name bar with the minimize, close-buttons etc. It's my third monitor is a separate X and it does not really work since I cant close programs, maximize windows or move them around. I cant even write anything on it. The first two monitors work great as one X-screen, just as they did in 10.10. Ubuntu Classic, no Unity. Two monitors (one X) on a ATI HD6970 One monitor (the X-screen that doesn't work properly) on a ATI HD4870
View 9 Replies View Relatedi was looking for a way to stop my menus taking a few seconds to load my icons when i first open them and found a few guides suggesting using the gtk-upate-icon-cache command, but with the any colour you like icon theme i'm using (stored in my home folder .icons directory) i kept getting a "gtk-update-icon-cache: The generated cache was invalid." fault i used the inbuilt facility in the acyl script to copy the icons to the usr/share/icons directory and tried the command again, this time using sudo gtk-update-icon-cache --force --ignore-theme-index /usr/share/icons/ACYL_Icon_Theme_0.8.1/ but i still get the same error. i tried with several of the custom icon themes i've installed and only 1 of the first 7 or 8 i tried successfully created the cache.

I've been spending hours reading stuff on Squid3 and I can't make it work, the client computers won't connect to the Internet.
What I'd like to do is a simple Squid proxy to cache the websites I access the most.
Would someone have in hand a squid.conf file compatible with my needs or suggest me another proxy product (with a GUI if possible,)?
I have Squid3 running and SARG for producing report. I would like to see the hostname being logged in the access.log file instead of the client IP address. I have already set the option log_fqdn=on and it doesn't do it. I still see the client IPs in access.log files...

Trying to configure it in yast2. Now in yast2-->networkservices-->squid I get the message squid needs to be installed, continuing with Next I get message unresolved dependencies then another that squid3 conflicts with squid-2.7. Solutions offered are deinstall squid3 or don't install squid-2. I select the latter and get messages that yast might not function etc. Isn't squid3 the newer version of squid-2? Should yast2 recognize that?

I haven't found any updated instructions for adding squidguard to the new squid3 server. I tried following the old instructions for doing this, making changes to the text to point to the new squid3 locations, but this didn't work.

I even tried going into the /etc/cron.daily/calamaris file, and changing squid to squid3... But when I run the crontask, it gives no output and there's no file in /var/www/calamaris. What's going on? I need a program to analyze computer bandwidth.

I run a Squid 3 server that is acting as a web filter. It worked fine on Etch. The system stopped working properly due to two of the three SATA cables being bad. Before I figured that out, I tried doing updates. Since Etch updates were no longer available, I did a distupgrade to Lenny. Immediately, Squid stopped working properly. It would take up to two and a half minutes for it to respond to a web request and add it to the access.log. This was using the same configuration file that it was using before the update.
After I found the hardware problem, I did a clean install of Lenny. I used the basic squid.conf like I did on the previous system, only changing it to add my ACLs and because it wasn't saving an access.log to the default location unless I uncommented the path directive. Now, it won't respond to a request at all. Forwarding is enabled and the firewall seems to be set up correctly.
I got squid3 installed on ubuntu server 10.4. I believe it is up and running as I can browse the internet on my other computers.I followed one of the tutorials on the net and looked at others for guide as well. Everyone of them did not mentioned that we have to create the swap files. Are we suppose too? I couldn't find the location of the swap file anywhere on the server.

eth0 is connected to a router, which provides Internet access. It is assigned an IP 192.168.1.2 by the router. I manually configured eth1 to have an IP address 192.168.5.1. It is connected to a switch. Systems having IP addresses 192.168.5.x are connected to this switch. I ran these two commands for NAT:

Everything works great as far as browsing, but my main goal was to cache large downloads (usually executables) that I download frequently. So I set the minimum to 300KB and the max to 100MB. The problem, though, is the cache is not being used. I can download a file at regular speed on one computer, and then try and download it again and it downloads from the internet again, rather than the cache, so the speed is no faster.

i have successfully set up squid3 with squeeze using guide on this forum viewtopic.php?f=16&t=59301 . The only problem that i have is the size of /var/log/access.log is too big and keep increasing so i run out of free space. The size of it always the same size as my free space hard disk (so it make me run out of free space in just one day, it can have size to 30 Gb ) right now , the only workaround i make is using crontab to rm access.log every hour . I'm sure this is not the right solution . Does anybody know the correct workaround about this ? I have searching in google but seems havent yet have luck with this .

I installed squid on my machine, and for a while it was starting up automatically when the computer would turn on, and I would only have to reconfigure on ip-up for the new dns, etc.Now for some reason, I notice that squid isn't even started.To fix this, I wrote a start up script in /etc/rcS.d/ that runs:/etc/init.d/squid3 startAnd I notice it still isn't starting.So I write "/etc/init.d/squid3 start" and put it in my ip-up.d/ script.Everything in the script is being executed, but the squid server.I've tried reinstalling squid... what am I missing? where does the computer start these services?
