I just finished an install of Slack64 current and it's crashing when I try to start up KDE. I tried setting the VESA framebuffer to 'normal' in /etc/lilo.conf, but no dice.

while trying to install mpd via SBo this error keeps occurring . I am still new to linux and do not know where the 'config.log' would be.
Installed today on a toshiba satellite. Everything works great but it randomly takes me to a black screen. Sometimes looping music playing in the background sometimes just freezing all together. I dont know what error logs to post and there isnt anything specific going on everytime it does this. Music isnt always playing , once I was even logging out.It has happened with and without unity.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi can't use kde because the startx and xorgsetup commands are not found (from root account). i know i installed x and kde, documentation doesn't say anything about specifying a path, locale and whereis don't show a path. what should i do?
edit: it also isn't found in /usr/bin/X11R6 or /usr/bin or /usr/bin/X11
trying to compile heartbeat on slack64, anybody has checked this? and/or solved?

Sound ctrl works alright in my Kde 4.3.x, lspci is fine... i guess i may be missing a driver or something. code...

mplayerplugin svn compiled from source, with Seamonkey
vlc plugin for firefox
One of two things always happens: it "loads" forever, or it crashes the browser. I don't understand. The kicker is that LOCALLY played mov files do seem to work (download some here [URL])! Which makes no sense.
Ok downloaded the SlackBuild script to install flash. I download the the files to go with it and ran the script. The script creates a .tgz in my tmp folder and I install it. After I install it I close out of my browser and re-open to check flash and every website I goto tells me flash is not installed I am a little confoobared with this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an odd problem with a computer I just set up. It is slack64 with Alien Bob's multilib packages. When I have the gtk+2-compat package installed I can no longer see any printers in firefox. I get error messages showing that it is trying to use the 32bit gtk+2 stuff. If I uninstall the gtk+2-compat package the printers show up as they should in firefox. I do not have this problem on my own slackware64/multilib system.

I don't feel like descending into dependency hell for the sake of stuff I'll never use. In KDE3 I could just execute ./configure with a bunch of --without statements. With KDE4 it just says to run cmake . and then make. For the life of me I can't figure out the way to handle this.

I read the tutorial and folowed it step by step setting my paths right (32dev.sh) and changing libsuffix="64" to libsufix="" from the slackbuild script.

I am installing slackware 13 on a machine that already has slackware 64- current. I'm doing this to try LFS which needs a 32 bit host (I know about CFLS, but I'm trying to keep it simple). My current installation is on sda with / being on sda1. My new 32 bit installation is on sdb with / being on sdb2.
I didn't install LILO as I figured it would be easy enough to just edit the current lilo.conf and run lilo after rebooting from the installation and then rebooting again into the new 32 bit install. What keeps happening is that the system boots seemingly fine, but after some wierdness I realized that it is booting a kernel from the 64 bit install on sda1. I'm assuming this is a simple screw up in my lilo.conf but I'm not sure exactly how to fix it.

I wish to do a fresh install of Slackware without KDE. I could use my Slackware 13.1 DVD but I thought, why not give -current at try? Is there a -current ISO or must I install 13.1, without KDE, and then upgrade to -current? Or, is it possible to remove 'all things KDE' and then upgrade to -current?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been using Eric's KDE packages since last June or so, and have been using the same command the whole time to download them. But today I went to get KDE 4.4.5 for the fresh 13.1 install I just did on my wife's laptop and KDE 4.4.85 (hell, yeah!) for my -current box. In both cases the command returned the same error. Here's the command and error message on my -current machine:

I have 4 1GB memory modules in my AMD64 X2, and Slackware 64-13.1 'free' tells me I only have 3.7GB. Never heard of this problem on a 64bit system.

i have install slackware 13.1 with no problem,but the problem is that i reboot after finish install.
in the middle it's stop booting and can't continue...
I installed slack 13 from disk 1, and then went ahead and installed the missing sets using slapt-get (t,tcl,x,xap and y). I skipped the kde and kdei sets. When I start xfce, the fonts are all messed up as shown in the attachment.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Slackware 13.37. After the install - when executing startx for the first time, the xfce desktop freezes when its almost (?) fully loaded.
While loading I can move mouse and if I hit caps_lock the lamp at the keyboard turns on and off.
In the setup I choosed to use vesa - allthoug I afterr that even tried to boot from lilo into vga-mode.
I am, a litle rusty after have been brainwashed through Ubuntu for a few years (sigh) - so I really am not sure which config-file I should edit, and xorg.conf seems to be empty.
I installed slackware 13.1 x86_64 bit with multilib, and its been about a month already, I'm really enjoying slackware but I am being troubled with my nvidia card, and I need to get my 3D acceleration working. And I've been looking around the net for information and kept on trying to make my nvidia card to work but to no avail. I cant get X to start, once I put in a xorg.conf stating to use the nvidia card. After troubleshooting for almost 2 weeks and now at my wits end, I now come humbly looking for help in linuxquestions slackware community forum.I've installed nvidia 64 bit kernel, drivers from slackbuilds (version 256.44). The laptop model I'm trying to get it working is an -ASUS K52J Intel Core i3 2.40Ghz with 2GB RAM and with an Nvidia Geforce 310M with 1GB dedicated VRAM.

Installed fresh Slack 13.0 version, at 7GB virtual hdd, with cfdisk, created two primary partitions, 500 mb for swap, whats left, to second partition, made it bootable, installed full software package, used all default selections, only refused to configure network. At first restart, I got a screen with many statements, that looks like errors, and a last one, that looks like critical error.
An image I have been working on Windows my whole life and only worked with already installed linux systems a bit. Installed RedHat and FreeBSD on VirtualPC previously and succesfully. Now, I stumble upon this error and cant think of next step.

I have never had any trouble with grub, and consequently never had to edit much in grub.
Just tried to install gnucash on a fresh install of 13.37. ALL dependencies are installed, with no errors from any. The gnucash slackbuild dies with a message that says "gnome.h, no such file or directory". All I can find is that it is and very old dependency of gnome.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAny kde app(dolphin, device notifier...) can't see my internal drive with ntfs and any connected flash drive. I've thought that this is problem with missing dependecies or hal but 'lshal -m' shows messages when J connect flash drive so i don't know where the problem is. I've installed all required and recommended and some optional packages from URL...and it has no effect. Does anybody know what i have to do to make it work.

ive used ubuntu and fedora before, but i asked around for the "best" linux distro and they told me slackware or archlinux so i desided to pick slackware ive installed it and when im in the console mode its the swedish keyboard settings, that i choose in the install but when i go into visual mode startx i dont have the swedish keyboard so i was wondering if eny of you know how to change it
