Slackware :: Compiling Kid3 In Slack64 Without Extra Cruft?
Mar 23, 2010
Can anybody tell me how to compile Kid3 without the TunePimp, Musicbrainz, and MP4 cruft? I don't feel like descending into dependency hell for the sake of stuff I'll never use. In KDE3 I could just execute ./configure with a bunch of --without statements. With KDE4 it just says to run cmake . and then make. For the life of me I can't figure out the way to handle this.

Try any quicktime site... apple trailers etc. I've tried:
mplayerplugin that comes with Slack 13
mplayerplugin svn compiled from source, with Seamonkey
vlc plugin for firefox
One of two things always happens: it "loads" forever, or it crashes the browser. I don't understand. The kicker is that LOCALLY played mov files do seem to work (download some here [URL])! Which makes no sense.

After I install it I close out of my browser and re-open to check flash and every website I goto tells me flash is not installed I am a little confoobared with this?

I have an odd problem with a computer I just set up. It is slack64 with Alien Bob's multilib packages. When I have the gtk+2-compat package installed I can no longer see any printers in firefox. I get error messages showing that it is trying to use the 32bit gtk+2 stuff. If I uninstall the gtk+2-compat package the printers show up as they should in firefox. I do not have this problem on my own slackware64/multilib system.

I just finished an install of Slack64 current and it's crashing when I try to start up KDE. I tried setting the VESA framebuffer to 'normal' in /etc/lilo.conf, but no dice.
Here's the log file: [URL]

I'm using Slackware64 with multilib (AlienBob) and i can't compile 32bit programs; 64bit programs do compile (tried helloworld). I read the tutorial and folowed it step by step setting my paths right (32dev.sh) and changing libsuffix="64" to libsufix="" from the slackbuild script.
In the attached config.log in the core test section there is this line that i find interesting
Code...
Why is it reading specs from lib64? code...

I am installing slackware 13 on a machine that already has slackware 64- current. I'm doing this to try LFS which needs a 32 bit host (I know about CFLS, but I'm trying to keep it simple). My current installation is on sda with / being on sda1. My new 32 bit installation is on sdb with / being on sdb2.
I didn't install LILO as I figured it would be easy enough to just edit the current lilo.conf and run lilo after rebooting from the installation and then rebooting again into the new 32 bit install. What keeps happening is that the system boots seemingly fine, but after some wierdness I realized that it is booting a kernel from the 64 bit install on sda1. I'm assuming this is a simple screw up in my lilo.conf but I'm not sure exactly how to fix it.
lilo.conf:
Code:
# LILO configuration file
# generated by 'liloconfig'
#
# Start LILO global section
# Append any additional kernel parameters:
append=" vt.default_utf8=0 quiet"
[Code]...

I've been receiving a LOT of log cruft ever since I installed my WUSB100V2 (using the rt2870sta community driver from the Linux kernel) and was wondering what it all meant.
Many times when these messages occur it is accompanied by slow network speeds and many DNS queries and outgoing SYNs being dropped. I have searched for documentation for these (error?) messages and have come up empty as far as what they mean or how I can stop them from occurring.
I reside on the opposite side of the building from my WAP. I have taken steps to improve the signal strength, but the signal quality hovers between 50% and 70%, sometimes dropping to 40% for unknown reasons.
My /var/log/messages:

I used btrfs, but my Slackware root is really a subvolume named system and not the root of btrfs. I do a similar setup of having the OS's root in it's own filesystem on FreeBSD+ZFS.Anyways, my problem lies in mkinitrd. There's no way to enter extra boot options, as I require subvol=system to be added to mount -o ro -t $ROOTFS $ROOTDEV /mnt.in the init script of /boot/initrd.gz. I don't reboot often and it's easy to manually remount /mnt with the correct options, however, is there another way of passing boot options to mkinitrd?
I see Patrick is the author of mkinitrd, so maybe this kind of option could, or maybe should, be added? I'm sure most people wouldn't make a subvolume for the OS's root, but I've been use to it with ZFS and prefer it for some reason.

I have a small amount of experience with python scripting, how I could get kid3 to automate this tagging.

there are 2 related to 11.3: openSUSE_11.3/ and openSUSE_11.3_KDE_Distro_Factory/ Index of /repositories/KDE:/Extra they are not listed as official kde4 repos here KDE repositories - openSUSE, but they are in the same directory structure on the build service so it would assume they are official (what ever official means) They have rpm's I didn't see in community and playground (at least for 11.3) such as audex and clementine I would guess that they are for the stable and factory versions of KDE4 but then shouldn't there be a 3rd for unstable if this was the case? Or do they refer to the distro, 11.3 stable and 11.3 factory

I have a need to recompile mesa. The --enable-32-bit option falls over every header and basic 32 bit lib, and won't compile. But if I try to install 32 bit packages, I could slap a 32 bit binary straight on top of my 64 bit one. What's the accepted way of doing this? I can't seem to find a package in Slackware 13.0

I've installed glibc and downloaded 2.6.33.3 tar ball from kernel.org.
I created a symlink /usr/src/linux -> /drive/linux-2.6.33.3
But there's something missing because when I run
make mrproper
make config
I get errors about not finding headers:
asm/socket.h
It seems like I am missing some other symlink, I've tried creating other links, like /usr/include/asm -> /drive/linux-2.6.33.3/arch/x86/asm

I'm running 13.1 64bit with alienbob's multilib extension and want to add openmotif. I used Eric's Slackbuild from [URL] applying it to openmotif-2.3.3 and succeeded in compiling the 64bit-version.Next I tried to compile in 32bit-mode, following alienbob instructions:
move lib64 to lib in openmotif.Slackbuild
export ARCH=x86_64
. /etc/profile.d/32dev.sh
./openmotif.Slackbuild
linking stops with error-message

Having trouble compiling the regular par2cmdline-0.4, I stumbled upon [URL] modified version of par2cmdline-0.4 with tbb which allows for concurrent processing of files. I have tried compiling this with no luck on my system and was wondering if anyone has had any luck. The ./configure goes through fine, and tbb is detected and used however it craps out just moments after issuing the make command. I have tried both tbb 2.2 and 3.0, but to no avail.

I'm compiling the BlueZ packages on Slackware64-13.0 and bluez.Slackbuild failed to run. I added
Code:
mkdir -p $PKG/lib/udev
immediately before
Code:
cp -a scripts/bluetooth_serial $PKG/lib/udev/bluetooth_serial || exit 1
and now the script runs.I don't know why the /lib/udev directory isn't created earlier in the build process for me, but now it builds cleanly.

I'm trying to build some boot and kernel images for my WD Mybook world edition, which uses an arm processor on my x86_64 host box. Ultimately i'd like to install slackarm. Lilo doesn't work on arm so you have to compile your own kernel and have the bootloader statically linked to kernel inorder to boot the OS. So i'm using my slackware install to cross compile the boot loaders (u-boot) and kernel image (uImage).
I've successfully compiled the buildroot environment which has generated the arm-linux-* binaries, eg, gcc 3.4.2 for arm.
Code:
These are in a build folder (shortened in text below), which i add to my PATH
Code:
I then move to the directory where i want to build the stage1 boot loader, which is supplied in the GPL code from WD.
Code:
However the build fails with a segfault, which looks to be caused by the incorrect libraries and compiler being used:
Code:
It seems to be using my x86_64 libs and gcc 4.4.4 which is the host compiler not the target.
I've tried setting ARCH=arm but got the same results.
Do i need to export some additional variables or unset some to prevent the host files being used instead of the targets?

I'm trying to install squidGuard-1.4, I have a minimal install. I have installed squid-3.2.0.5 without any problems, but squidGuard is driving me crazy
I can run the ./configure with no problems but when I run make, or make install I keep getting this error:
Code:
make: *** [y.tab.c] Error 141
And that is is all, no more verbosity or anything else.
Error suggests that YACC is missing but bison is present, also db4 (tried with db44 and db3, same story).
Just in case you can see anything I cannot I've attached the config.log
