Sound ctrl works alright in my Kde 4.3.x, lspci is fine... i guess i may be missing a driver or something. code...
Try any quicktime site... apple trailers etc. I've tried:
mplayerplugin that comes with Slack 13
mplayerplugin svn compiled from source, with Seamonkey
vlc plugin for firefox
One of two things always happens: it "loads" forever, or it crashes the browser. I don't understand. The kicker is that LOCALLY played mov files do seem to work (download some here [URL])! Which makes no sense.

View 8 Replies View RelatedOk downloaded the SlackBuild script to install flash. I download the the files to go with it and ran the script. The script creates a .tgz in my tmp folder and I install it. After I install it I close out of my browser and re-open to check flash and every website I goto tells me flash is not installed I am a little confoobared with this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an odd problem with a computer I just set up. It is slack64 with Alien Bob's multilib packages. When I have the gtk+2-compat package installed I can no longer see any printers in firefox. I get error messages showing that it is trying to use the 32bit gtk+2 stuff. If I uninstall the gtk+2-compat package the printers show up as they should in firefox. I do not have this problem on my own slackware64/multilib system.

I don't feel like descending into dependency hell for the sake of stuff I'll never use. In KDE3 I could just execute ./configure with a bunch of --without statements. With KDE4 it just says to run cmake . and then make. For the life of me I can't figure out the way to handle this.

I'm using Slackware64 with multilib (AlienBob) and i can't compile 32bit programs; 64bit programs do compile (tried helloworld). I read the tutorial and folowed it step by step setting my paths right (32dev.sh) and changing libsuffix="64" to libsufix="" from the slackbuild script.

I am installing slackware 13 on a machine that already has slackware 64- current. I'm doing this to try LFS which needs a 32 bit host (I know about CFLS, but I'm trying to keep it simple). My current installation is on sda with / being on sda1. My new 32 bit installation is on sdb with / being on sdb2.
I didn't install LILO as I figured it would be easy enough to just edit the current lilo.conf and run lilo after rebooting from the installation and then rebooting again into the new 32 bit install. What keeps happening is that the system boots seemingly fine, but after some wierdness I realized that it is booting a kernel from the 64 bit install on sda1. I'm assuming this is a simple screw up in my lilo.conf but I'm not sure exactly how to fix it.

I am having trouble getting sound to work through hdmi, I changed the device in the kde settings for multimedia and it now works in Amarok but Mplayer and VLC are refusing.

I have disabled my sound card in the bios to save confusion (on my part) Upgraded my kernel to 2.6.37. My gfx card is a NV gt 430 xt
I have a fairly fresh Slack install. When I start or shutdown X, the sounds that are supposed to play do. Also, sometimes everything else that is supposed to play sounds does.
However, sometimes the sound doesn't work for flash content or pidgin. I have never had a similar problem and I don't know where to start in resolving this issue.
I was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.
I was just given a computer from a coworker and installed the latest Slackware version on it. I then installed Gnome Slackbuild and installed the Nvidia driver.I've run alsaconf and it seems to run fine without any errors and unmuted all the channels in alsamixer.
View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently I have started using my netbook (Acer Aspire one D250) alot more due to travelling and I noticed that the mic didn't work. Headed to the Ubuntu forums and saw a thread about installing ALSA. So I did and now I have no sound. From what I can tell ubuntu is no longer picking up my sound devices but I'm sure. Hence why I am here. I need to get my sound working again (obviously) and then in turn get my mic working for mumble and other VOIP programs.

I have successfully installed the wireless drivers and graphics card and have them both up and running. But I'm having trouble with the sound card. Specifically, it appears to be installed but I cant get any sound or any devices related to sound (speakers, volume control, alsamixer) to work at all.

I am using a USB headset and a logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 with Ubuntu 10.04
1. When I change the sound to internal sound the webcam works in Skype but I have not sound.
2. When I change the sound to the USB headset (sound output) the webcam does not work in Skype.
In ubuntu 10.04 my X-fi Fatal1ty Titanium sound card worked for my speakers but I had to use onboard sound for the mic. When I installed 10.10 the sound card no longer works at all so I have to run the speakers through the onboard sound.
The second problem I have is that Skype will not pick up my microphone all other programs seem to be able to record from the microphone just fine but skype does not. Ive tried selecting all the different input device options from the skype settings but none of them seem to work.
EDIT: Sound doesn't work at all in wine.
EDIT2: The X-fi card no longer shows up in the sound control panel.

I'm currently trying to install unRaid on Slackware following this tutorial :[URL].. I'm new to Linux and after many hours, i finally managed to build the new kernel for unRAID (2.6.32.9). But audio on HDMI port doesn't work I tried alsaconf without success. HDMI sound works when i boot into the old kernel.

I installed Slackware 13 in VirtualBox 3.1 (seehere)When I'm logged in as a normal user, I get a mesage that Intel *** (sound device) doesn't work anymore and I hear no sound.But it works very fine when I'm logged in as root.

The problem started however when I installed Skype which uses pulseaudio. As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. If I have pulseaudio started in some way, applications that I suppose do not use it like spotify or flash player stops to produce sounds. View 13 Replies View RelatedI recently ordered the Alienware Aurora from Dell and upgraded the video card to the Nvidia GeForce GTX 295 as I noticed that Nvidia offers a 32-bit driver for download.
Then I noticed that the system comes with Windows 7 64-bit so I am assuming that this is a 64-bit system.
My bottom line question is will I have to install Slackware 13 (64 bit) or will I have to stick with the 32-bit version since the Nvidia driver is compiled for 32-bit? This is a gaming machine so obviously I want to be able to realize the full potential of the video card.
If I have a choice, what are the pros and cons? I DO NOT want Windows so I'll be disappointed if I can't install Linux!

Today I installed Slackware 13 because of some issues I'd been having with slackware 9, which I'd gradually updated, but apparently not perfectly, hence the clean install of ver 13. Anyways, I have no sound. At first I thought I had no sound at all, but then I found out that audio does work for root. When I try to run alsamixer as a non-root user, I get this error:

If I run the KDE system settings thing, what I guess is their version of the windows control panel, and I go to the multimedia section, I can see my card, but if I click test, it says that it's failed and that it's "reverting back to ." or something to that effect.(I'm in fluxbox right now). I would imagine that there's something I need to do with respect to modifying permissions, but I really don't know what that is that I'm supposed to do.
I recently got a yamaha sound card from a friend because my Intel card was not working so I disabled Intel sound card from BIOS so that I can use only Yamaha card but I hear no sound in Slackware but can hear sound in my Fedora & Windows (i.e.card is working) code...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got two problems. Problem 1 the sound is kind of sketchy..I thought the sound card got blown. But I heard my friend got sound on it again before we put Slackware on. Next I left him to install it while I went to class. I don't think he put a swap in. The computer is painfully slow and it can't even switch users because it looks like the ram got murdered or something. My Questions are how to test / get a working sound card. I did do the alsamixer I think the command is and turn the volume levels up yet I don't hear anything.
As far as the swap partions I don't there is one but I am not sure how to look / check to where if he made it to small or not at all.
This problem applies to Konqueror, Firefox, and Seamonkey. It applies equally to all forms of online sound content, from flash to yahoo media player. Yes, the sliders are up in my sound mixer! I have sound from all other apps, just not web browsers. It also applies to alluser accounts.
