The error is the same for the other computer except while attempting to update the rpmforge repository. Nothing has really changed on the servers in some time and 'yum update' worked fine on each yesterday and I have no idea why they would both suddenly fail!

I've not changed contents of any of these. Then why does it show me this messages? I did install akmod for my Nvidia graphics card for which I followed the steps mentioned for nouveau.
Fedora :: Running Incredible Slow After Update
Apr 11, 2010I'm running 12 (x64) on my dell inspiron 1525. It's been fine for 6months. Just updated it and now it is running incredible slow, I can't really use it, typing is delayed, opening prgrammes delayed, scrolling etc. The updates were just those that were flagged up on my desktop so I have no idea which particular update has caused this.

May 28, 2010I'm trying to compile and install new kernel 2.6.32.14 in my ubuntu karmic. After compiling source and executing the deb package for the kernel, I tried to run update-initramfs but got "No space on device" error. My /boot partition size is 100 MB and is currently having 37MB free. After I run the update-initramfs command I noticed that space in /boot got depleted and soon came to naught which led to no space error thrown by gzip. I believe the resultant gzipped archive is no more than 20MB...then why is the whole 37MB is being used up? Please correct me If I'm wrong here otherwise I might be left with no choice but to increase the size of /boot partition. Is there anyway I can make update-initramfs to use the temporary space from other drives(may be /tmp) when creating gzipped archive?

Aug 14, 2010I have an Acer Aspire netbook with 1GB RAM and 1.6 GHz dual-core 32-bit x86 chips. The KPackageKit / yum / rpm chain is running too slow for me. In addition to the time required to download any new packages or updates, it seems to require at least one full minute of processing time to install each package, update, or bug fix, no matter how small. Another full minute is consumed for each package in "cleaning up."Running yum from the command line takes nearly the same amount of time.During this time, I cannot run any other applications without severe thrashing. It seems that a full gigabyte of memory is in use with some 100M swapped out to disk.
Is there any way to reduce the running time and memory requirement of the update process?While not updating or installing software, I do not normally run out of memory (i.e. begin thrashing) until I have about a dozen browser tabs open, or the like.
Fedora :: Update Upsets Graphic Settings And Prevents Programs Running?
Sep 3, 2010I fired up my PC this morning and not unusually got an update message. I updated all that I was instructed to, as per normal - and at the end of the update was told that I'd need to restart to effect changes. I was in the middle of something else at the time so I left it but I turned the PC off an hour or so later and left it.
On starting up again I cannot get my previous resolution (1600 x 1200) and Second Life resolutely refuses to run giving a "Window creation error". Trying to change the display settings from the System> Administration menu just stops: It asks for the root PW and then nothing happens
Clearly something's gone a bit pear shaped here. I'm using Fedora 12 wth a PAE kernel and on an AMD 5200 chip with an nvidia 7900GS card. Things worked fine until this update so I strongly suspect that to be the cause but what can I do to fix it? Is there any way to "roll back" the update somehow or is there a fix?

Fedora Installation :: Upgrading From 10 To 12 - Error Running Transaction
Jan 23, 2010When upgrading from fedora 10 to fedora 12 (after reboot and during installation) I get the error message as - Error running transaction - you need more space on the following file systems : 23 M on /mnt/sysimage/boot
After this installation stops.
I checked /mnt , there is no folder as sysimage . Please suggest how to proceed further ?

Mar 18, 2011I am a final year BE student. I am working on the ehci-0.6 library for tracking the the face in fedora 13 in vmware. I am able to compile the code but could not run the sample programs. The error is as follows. After I compile the program:

How to overcome this kind of error. Blank window opens and goes on showing the error mentioned above and ends ven given ctrl + c. The expected output to open a window and display the capture the person present in front of the webcam and print d coordinates of the face captured.
Software :: Fatal Error While Running Softwares In Fedora 14
Jun 24, 2011I have been a regular user of Linux and have never faced a problem like this one, after I installed Linux Fedora 14 on my laptop. After installation, almost all the softwares that I was earlier using with the earlier version of Fedora are stopping immediately on starting and exitting with a fatal error. eg. when I try to run paraview, it immediately closes after giving some fatal error. Similar is the case with gambit, tecplot and mayaVi softwares.With my earlier version of Fedora, I was not facing any problem. But since I installed Fedora 14, I am facing this problem. I even tried by downloading and installing latest version of paraview and mayaVi from the net, but the latest versions also on starting give the same error : fatal error, and exit the program.
The softwares I mentioned immediately close indicationg a fatal error. The following error messages appear in the console after abrupt shut down of softwares with fatal error :

Aug 6, 2010Sometimes I connect to my Debian box from another computer (using SSH on Cygwin or Linux), and once ina while I want to run some console apps. And sometimes some of these apps might complain about "another intance, Error: an instance of newsbeuter is already running (PID: 2496)". Is there a work around for this issue at all(without killing the original instance") ? The reason I do not want to kill the app because there might be 2 users connected to the same machine that might be using the same app.

Fedora seems to be a little bit more complicated than Ubuntu to update and to do other things... I'm still willing to try it because it has a good reputation and good reviews so I will go ahead and give it a shot but before I do that I need to update it. I have an HP pavilion notebook dv2000. Just installed Fedora 15 and my system is telling me that I have over 700 updates! when I click on install updates I get an error:
