OpenSUSE :: Missing Shutdown Method In Org.freedesktop.PowerManagement Dbus Interface?
Oct 12, 2010
I'm using handbrake to encode some dvd's and am trying to use the autoshutdown feature. It does not work. However, handbrake does not seem at fault here. When I check in qdbusviewer, there is indeed no shutdown method in the org.freedesktop.PowerManagement interface. This does not seem normal, although I have the same problem on 2 suse 11.3 boxes.Through this post, I started fiddling with policykit settings, but it doesn't change anything.Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Do you have these canShutdown/shutdown methods?
Kmix will not start any more. It might have something to do with an online update I installed last night. Here is the output from a console. I can't make any sense of it.
ion@linux-4cfs:~> kmix Connecting to deprecated signal QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString) <unknown program name>(6735)/: Communication problem with "kmix" , it probably crashed. Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownObject" : " "No such object path '/MainApplication'" "
When I install a commercial audio into the CDROM drive I get th following: Unable to mount Audio Disc DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered
when I connect my iphone (3GS, 4.3.3) to Fedora 15 it gives me this error: Unable to mount iphone DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus). The weird thing: after looking in var/log/messages it appears that it is trying to be used by NetworkManager. And when I lookin NM, i can see iPhone as an ethernet device (cable unplugged).
I'm not sure what when wrong since I have a few DVDs and they all play well in my normal DVD player, I later attempt to mount it in my Ubuntu 8.10 I'm presented with the following message:
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
May I know what does this really mean?Is there something in my computer that require a fix?
after install slackware with gnome using gnome slack build it is work fine Except some thing :-
the volume it is not work and get this error ((The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured. You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the speaker icon on the panel and selecting "Remove From Panel" from the menu.
No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.)) and the System Monitor give me this error when i want check the state of memory and processor ((There was an error executing 'gnome-system-monitor': Failed to execute child process "gnome-system-monitor" (No such file or directory)) and the memory flash not work and give me this error ((Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied.))
I am a developer working on an application which needs to dial out via modem. The modem activation/deactivation is done programmatically by the application, which may be running unattended. The online time is billed by the minute at a very high rate so it is imperative that the dialler does its best to terminate a connection whenever signalled to do so by the application.
The preferred means of communication with the dialer would be via DBus, due to design/architectural considerations. The current solution relies on a DBus wrapper around pppd, but it has been found lacking in reliability (leaving connections open from time to time).I have already reviewed some candidates such as wvdial, and network-manager but unfortunately those were unsuitable.
I use Gnome as my default desktop but have KDE3 installed to run KDE software on Gnome. Because Suse-users are mostly KDE users I checked the KDE to see why. I noticed good reasons to stick to Gnome but also noticed I cannot shutdown, restart or suspend from the KDE, there are no buttons on the menu for this, I can only change user and use Gnome to shutdown, restart or suspend. I checked my laptop and noticed the same problem. Both computers have installed suse 11.1 Gnome2.24 and KDE3. (one user) default How can I add a shutdownmenu? I cannot find other users with this problem on the forum.
Debian and running Lenny on a server. I'm trying to install dbus and get an error:
So it seems I'm missing the /etc/rc0.d directory. I checked and all the other rc directories are there, from rc1.d to rc6.d, rc.local and rcS.d.
I don't know how deep these things go and I don't know why I'm missing the rc0.d. Can I just create the directory myself and that's it? It doesn't break anything somewhere else if I make it up myself? Or do I need to do something else to get this working?
I then hear 2 or 3 faint clicks and I get a blank screen, with 2 faint lines at the top. I have been searching and trying to figure this out, but to no avail.
I'v just installed wicd. I can't get it to sart, I get errors saying that wicd couldn't connect to it's dbus interface and the wicd deamon has shut down. Then there's a report from SELinux saying that it's preventing /usr/bin/python "write" access on /etc/dhcp/manager-settings.conf and that access is denied to wicd. I can get wicd to start if I su to root, but I'd like to not have to do that every time I boot. Is there a fix?
I am trying to play or backup various DVDs i have recently bought and keep geting this error message: (mind the wrap) org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable auth_admin_keep_always <-- (action, result) from KIOExec What in tarnation is going on. How about a useful error message.
do have installed glib and dbus and can find them manually , /usr/include/glib-2.0/glib.h , but while comipling applicaiton it gives following error messages.
/usr/include/libosso.h:32:18: error: glib.h: No such file or directory /usr/include/libosso.h:38:23: error: dbus/dbus.h: No such file or directory /usr/include/libosso.h:39:32: error: dbus/dbus-protocol.h: No such file or directory
2011-04-11 11:57:03 UTC I don't know what happening with my centralized log-server running octopussy. Currently it is working in a vmware setup with approx 980 Mb ram and is set in bridge mode. Currently is it set to receive logs from logs devices which are 4 in number one of which includes the core isg-1000 device. This setup is still in its test form....now what happens after some time (sometimes it taken days and sometimes just hours) when the connection (https) is suddenly lost to the apache and i can no longer access the interface. What happens more strangely my Ethernet interface gets shutdown on ubuntu. I have to restart the services by issuing /etc/init.d/networking restart.
Even at times it itself start receiving network packets on its own; without even restarting; i don't what the hell is wrong with the server. I cannot understand its erratic behavior. I need a sound and reliable Ethernet connectivity at all times because coz of loss of connectivity in my case would mean loss of logging functionality. I dnt want any time-gap in logging ...as im currently logging some highly critical devices on this server.
working on KDE, I cannot shutdown, reset, logout or switch users through graphical interface (you know, bit blue button, 'leave' tab and all these buttons).I've googled the problem, and here's what I have found:[URL]Guys on the Arch forum related the problem to the OGG files and phonon-xine - indeed, I cannot play OGG files anymore.I tried to install phonon-vlc, but the package is not in any of my repositories. I tried to remove libqt4-phonon, but it would also remove half of the system, which isn't the best idea. Someone else suggested to install speex, but it's already installed on my Kubuntu.I'm out of ideas, and I'm not really sure how to reinstall xine and phonon without deleting half of the system like this:
Code: The following packages will be REMOVED: akregator amarok apport-kde apport-qt apturl-kde ark calibre digikam dolphin dragonplayer
I did a live upgrade from 11.3 KDE and observe a following issue. When I press the shutdown button on the laptop it initiates the shutdown and shuts down fine but after a significant delay of time (something like 30 seconds). When I click the shutdown button in KDE it initiates the shutdown instantly. This was not the case in 11.3 where the shutdown worked the same regardless of the method that triggered it
I just did a fresh install of 10.04, everything was fine until I ran the update manager then 1 the computer wouldnt shut down, so I used the power buttom to power down and 2 after the updates ,,when my computer booted back up , I have lost both of my panels. all I can do is right click the desktop. this is the second time for this computer the other ones I installed 10.04 on didnt do this to me . I am working on a Dell optiplex gx110.
I'm loving FC14, but I just find out that Wireshark is not working, as it was on FC13.Here is what's happening..... When running the application I get prompt for authentication, that was fine under FC13. I used to type my super user password, andthat was it. On FC14 I get nothing. Now when I skip the authentication the Wireshark Gui comes up, but it has no interfaces showing on my list. What I have!:
I have already tried reloading the drivers, restarting the interface (which is missing) and every other solution I found on this forum (well... not exactly all of them but many of them) uname -a gives Linux hostname 2.6.35-27-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 22 20:25:46 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux
downloaded the latest firefox and put it in /opt, it runs ok but the interface is missing icons, like the back and forward buttons, refresh, the x on the tabs, the + for a new tab, and others. iceweasel is fine. anyone seen this or know where or how to fix it?
I just setup a SuSE 11.3/64 server and I am trying to setup pptpd for a vpn. I noticed thatg the ppp0 (or any pppx) interface is non-exoisting and I think that that is the problem why my gre packages are not being sent by pptpd (as I have checked all other options). I have tcp port 1723, and protocol port 47 (gre) open on the firewall (SuSEfirewall2). I have traced the responses using tcpdump and only when the server sends gre to the remote client, the client never receives it (the 1723 connection is established). I checked the old server (SuSE 10.2) that worked the vpn fine, and the only thing missing on 11.3 is ppp0. All other hardware (routers, etc.) are the same. I suspect that pptpd tries to use ppp0 and the interface is non-existing. I can remotely ssh to the server, dns works, samba works, everything else works. Is it something I am missing? How do I create if ppp0 and link it to eth3, the internet gateway?
As always, a windoze tech crashed the old server and I had to setup the new one in a hurry, just before going on vacation, and people want this done by yesterday? They paid $$$$ to the windoze tech (who said Linux is obsolete) even after he almost brought the company down!
I added a Netspeed applet to my top panel. It screwed up my Me Menu and Logout menu, so I removed it, rebooted. However after the reboot my menu's are still screwed up. See the attached screen shot. The Me Menu works however if I click where the logout menu is supposed to be I don't get anything.
After an udate I get this error message: DBus error : Unable to get transaction id from packagekit. This error also shows when I click the yellow triangle. When I start the manual update this shows:
[code]...
It seems some shell is not there anymore. What to do?
Has anyone tried updating dbus in factory up to level 1.4 under openSuSE 11.3 x86_64 and continue to run KDE 4.4.4 Stable? Just wondering if it causes any issues or if it forces you to go to KDE 4.5.1 Factory. I've tried updating to 4.5.1 without, other thread, and the suggestion was to update dbus to 1.4 to correct speed issues.
Yesterday I installed debian squeeze and inside appearance preferences there are: theme, background and fonts tabs but the interface tab is missing. What do I need to install in order to have this missing tab?
I just installed 11.2 kde 64 bit and I get this error: DBus error : Unable to get transaction id from packagekit. How do I correct this?also: the other updates have been running for a hour and they're still running. is this normal?
Recently installed a new distro OpenSUSE 11.4 x86_64. I installed it in a minimal configuration for my needs, on after installing a minimal system installed hypervisor Xen 4.0.2. He also set for a lot of dependencies, and utilities. On one of them I have a problem. Trying to run a utility to create a virtual machine "vm-install", but crashes the next kind of error:
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/vm-install", line 30, in <module> import vminstall.job File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/vminstall/job.py", line 28, in <module>
I tried out the 10.04 beta in VirtualBox, and the tab for Interface in Appearance Settings was gone. This tab allowed you to edit the appearance of Toolbars in Ubuntu. You could edit whether Icons showed up in the toolbar buttons and whether Text shows up beside it. This is kind of a minor annoyance for me; is there any way to edit this option outside of the appearance settings? I'm sure there is (like editing some config file or GConf), but I'm not sure where.
When I shutdown the PC there is a page of data itemising actions taken, but it is there and gone before I get the chance to read it. Is there any way to preserve this to a txt file to read at the next power up?
