i am trying to run compiz it runs but i get this error

and then most of the plugins dont work . kwin uses alot of cpu resources so i am using compiz

I`am trying to install drivers for a very old graphics card GeForce2 GTS/Pro on Suse 11.2. I downloaded driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-71.86.13-pkg1.run and install it successfully. But when I launch "sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia" it crushes with error "isax: could not import file: /var/cache/sax/files/config at /usr/sbin/isax line 199"

I just installed opensuse 11.4 64 bit. Compiz and everything was working fine on my ati card (mobility 2600) with the default radeon drivers. I added the gnome 3 stable repo, updated fine. But when I rebooted I get booted into the fallback with no 3d effects and it says "gnome 3 failed to load" What gives? The drivers were working fine with full acceleration. I know gnome 3 works on this card, I tested it on the fedora live cd just fine.

When I check in qdbusviewer, there is indeed no shutdown method in the org.freedesktop.PowerManagement interface. This does not seem normal, although I have the same problem on 2 suse 11.3 boxes.Through this post, I started fiddling with policykit settings, but it doesn't change anything.Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Do you have these canShutdown/shutdown methods?

I have installed suse 11.2. Sometimes while using (firefox, okular, open office etc) x server restarts & comes to login screen. While checking Xorg.0.log i found i810 module is failed to load. Is this causing the x server restart?

I know the issue is attributed to the R600_rlc.bin located in /lib/firmware/R600_rlc.bin. I attempt to make some config changes but the file is in binary. It could be a problem associated with the creation of the initrd but not certain. It's a dual-boot system running Windows 7 on the other partition

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed openSuse 11.4 server-mode (text only) on my desktop, and I'm trying to configure IceWM so i'll eventually have it set up so it always boots into text only mode, but I could be able to quickly start icewm via the command line.using Yast, I installed the Xorg server, and icewm.when I type X, the screen goes black and it just doesn't seem to do anythingI found if I hit ctrl+alt+f1 it kinda puts me back into text only mode, but I can't put in commands anymore. The last thing it says on the screen is:

I've goggled that error message and the discussions that popped up around it made no sense to me at all. I've never configured X from scratch before, can someone point me towards a tutorial or something?
i installed ubuntu 11.04 on my presario cq40-115au but it does not load the default gui (unity). i only see a blue background and an icon of my other partition on desktop. even alt+F2 does not pop the "run application" windows. anyone had the same issue? especially with radeon hd3200?

Always the same error when booting. After a period of time, (Graphical User Interface) the mouse click no longer operates, also text input isn't possible.
I had no access to the system at all, even crt alt F1 stopped working, also text input was no't possible. so reinstall was the only option. Maybe there is a connection with this two errors.
I've reinstalled Debian 8 several times. Still, both errors stay.
The same happend again (in the GUI) is nothing possible, no txt input, no mouse click), but now I have access to the system, ctr/alt F1 is working.
After regular upgrade (I am using Unstable) I boot my system today but failed to load X using xinit (which I always use). Using startx X loads but leaves it unusable, both mouse and keyboard don't work (I never use startx really as regular user but in root). The message is:

I've just bought this laptop Asus G750JZ with Intel Haswell i72.4 GHz and Nividia GTX 880. I have this problem with Debian: after i install the OS it says that Gnome 3 could not be loaded. There was also a problem with Windows, but that's another thing. Now I had not upgraded Ubuntu for a long time. I think I still had Ubuntu 8.9 . So I wanted to upgrade and let Ubuntu do it automatically, it showed the upgrade to 9.4. So let it upgrade, but it asked if it had to change menu.lst, but since I had menu.lst modified in the right way, I choose the option to keep the already installed version. But it just kept asking the same question, so 4 or 5 times and a few hours later I choose the option to change it to the default package version. Then it didn't ask this anymore, but it hung at a later stage.
So I waited several hours longer, but it didn't proceed anymore, so I had to shut it down.It shut down OK, but then when I restarted, what I described above happened.Now I have another problem, my disk reader (CD/DVD) doesn't work either, so I cannot simply use a LiveCD.

My nvidia graphics driver was updated last night, and since then I've been unable to get into Gnome without resorting to low graphics mode. I have extensive knowledge of Windoze systems. Upon boot up, I get the following error:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration
I've tried some troubleshooting, including attempting to uninstall all nvidia drivers and reinstall (via synaptic).
Administration->Hardware Drivers reports that version 173 is installed loaded and active. Nvidia X Server Settings (nvidia-settings) gives me the "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server." error.
I've tried the nvidia-xconfig (both with gdm up and down) and it hasn't made any difference.
Oh, it's a GeForce 6200 wwith two Dell E193FPp monitors running on Ubuntu 10.04.

My laptop broke beyond repair recently so I am stuck on a 6 year old hp pavilion zv5000 given to me by a friend and I thought I may as well give linux a go, I have been meaning to for years. I've installed xubuntu 10.04 as I heard it is less resource intensive than normal ubuntu but have been unable to configure the nvidia graphics card. I used the hardware drivers program which installed the nvidia accelerated graphics driver 96 (which was the recommended version) and then ran sudo nvidia-xconfig as instructed and got

Which I presume means it worked correctly, but whenever I try to boot I get a message saying "failed to load nvidia kernel module", at which point I either have to restore the generic configuration or just start the session in low graphics mode. I have googled the problem and in a lot of peoples cases it seems to be linked to upgrading from a previous version whilst mine was a fresh install. I tried sudo modprode and it says the nvidia module isn't present. I tried installing the packages in synaptic which mentioned nvidia kernel modules but still no luck.

I am trying to fix my friends laptop and after the most recent upgrade she performed she got this error message when her laptop boots. Thing is that it stays frozen in that mode. I don't even see the grub boot loader. I know its the only operating system she has running on her laptop as well. The following error was encountered. I installed a suse 11.3 on my acer laptop and it worked just fine for two days.I was able to use internet as well though wi-fi driver i still had to figure out.This morning when i started it, it gave me an error like this:- Failed to load grub Error 18 now from what i understand is the solution is to downsize the harddisk partition used by the linux root to somewhat 10gb.Mine is about 40gb.
So i thought why not re-install the os again.But even after changing the bios setting to boot from cd-rom and putting in the suse dvd still its not booting from dvd and continously giving this error Error 18:Selected cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS and then it comes to a command prompt like this grub>
So I just recently got my proprietary driver working yesterday (and enjoyed too many hours of Starcraft 2 afterwards) but today after I downloaded an Update Package and rebooted, it's telling me that it "Filed to load NVIDIA kernel module".So now I'm back to square one, I had to restart in the lower graphics mode or whatever it's called prior to logging in.When I go to System - Admin - Hardware Drivers, nothing shows up and it says no proprietary drivers are in use on this system.
When I try to change the resolution under System - Preferences - Monitors (since everything is so big) I get "It appears that your graphics driver does not support the necessary extensions to use this tool. Do you want to use your graphics driver vendor's tool instead?" I select "Yes" and I get "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server."I'm a total loss here, I'm assuming something from the update package has caused everything to go haywire and I'm hoping that if/when I get this fixed I don't have to keep doing this fix every time I use the Update Manager.I'm still fairly new to this whole Ubuntu thing, so any step-by-step instructions would be appreciated
