i had ubuntu lucid for a while and now im using opensuse 11.3 with gnomei had compiz on ubuntu with ccsm(manager) and it was good but i cant find that in opensuse. is there such a thing for opensuse?
View 1 RepliesI cant set compize animations. In Lucid I could set the animations for maximize,close,minimize but in maverick I cant seem to get that working. I do the same that I did in Lucid, Go to Effects > Animations and select check box all to get random effects. One more thing, The flame effect is also missing there.

It took me a while to get the hardware talking (documented in another thread), but now the sync is proving to be problematic. A hotsync happens - and I can also sync fully with jpilot, but the sync isn't going anywhere. I'm hoping to sync with kontact, but it's impossible to tell as kpilot hangs whenever I try to configure the conduits through the "Configure kpilot" menu item. When syncing, the log complains of missing conduits:

I recently started using OpenSuSE, coming from a year on Kubuntu as my introduction to Linux operating systems. I had tried out Compiz and liked it, though I used KWin more often than not, and I thought I'd give it a try. However, when I went into YaST to get it, I noticed that it wants to install gnome-desktop and some GNOME programs along with it...I had at one pointed tried Ubuntu Studio alongside my Kubuntu desktop, and I regretted it immediately because ever since I had done that a bunch of things got screwed up in KDE. So I'm a little leery about installing GNOME just to get Compiz working...
Is there a way to use Compiz without the gnome-desktop? Shouldn't it just need GNOME libraries to work? Is installing gnome-desktop along with Compiz going to screw things up and add a bunch of GNOME programs I don't want or need (ex. Nautilus) alongside KDE? If so, I won't bother getting it, so I thought I'd ask, because I don't want to screw things up like I did on Kubuntu.

I have opensuse 11.2 64 bit with the latest Nvidia drivers on a Gnome desktop; out of the box compiz 7.8 worked great. I had no intention of upgrading but I did with the upgrade to 8.4. Everything upgraded fine except I lost my menu bars on all screens when they were opened. I downgraded back down to 7.8 and still the same issue. Right now I have no compiz on so I can have have my menu bars. There is something I must be missing when I installed or reinstalled or upgraded compiz. I would like to get an original compiz setup that a fresh install gives.

After having some problems with the latest Ubuntu release, I decided to give openSUSE another chance. This time I managed to get flawlessly working everything I needed, and I'm very satisfied with this distro so far.
That said, I encountered a weird glitch in Compiz, specifically with its 3D Windows plugin. It's not really a big deal, but it bugs me, so I might as well give it a shot and ask about it here. With the 3D Windows activated, this is what I get:
what causes this and how can I fix it? I'm using the latest NVIDIA propietary drivers. If you need me to post any additional info, I'll be happy to comply.

I hoped old oversimplistic gnome with disgusting theme, but it was great and fast. Then I had run compiz. I want compiz only on the gnome, on KDE I want Kwin. I could override compiz with

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure about anybody else, but I have spent many hours today trying to figure out how to get Compiz as a window manager. Alas, I have tasted success. Once compiz and Emerald are both installed, simply go to Code:Configure Desktop > Default Applications > Window Management and then select from the drop down menu.Now those beautiful emerald themes will work. I have seen many other 'solutions' for KDE4 and they may have worked for some, but not for me. I hope this will help somebody who may be as frustrated as I was.

I have dual monitors and running openSUSE 11.2 with a Nvidia 260 with 897ram on the card with 16GB system Ram and AMD dual core CPU. I can get the monitors to work just fine with the Nvidia drivers i just cant get the Compiz to load.Here is my xorg.conf. I have had it running before but just cant rember what i did.

I installed openSuse 11.3 gnome 64bits edition 2 weeks ago and was pleased. Yesterday I wanted to monitor my ATI 4850 temperature so I decided to install ATI official drivers, which turned to be a big mistake.I ran this script found on this forum :

Once rebooted, I wanted to enable compiz effetcs, an error message said there was no driver detected, I was surprised but clicked to enable effects. No effects were enabled and worse, window borders disappeared. There is no more window manager. I search on this forum, tried to boot in level 3, ran the script again. The problem remains. However if I boot in level 3, then type "startx" I have window borders but scrolling is terribly slow, just as when there is no driver installed on Microsoft Windows. I have some basic knowledge of Ubuntu, but I was clumsy with openSuse. So here are my questions :
1) how come compiz is not supported when official drivers are installed ? on Ubuntu it's the opposite, compiz requires proprietary drivers 2) how can I fix this mess ? I tried to reinstall Xorg but I fear to worsen everything
I heard a lot about NVIDIA Xinerama & Compiz not working but on looking further, in recent times people have got them to work. I've setup Xinerama with 4 monitors working across 2 dual video cards and it works great. I have the latest NVIDIA drivers (using the one-click) and I just installed the latest compiz using one-click as well.
The cards are as follows:
Chip: 0 is -> NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 01:00:0 0x10de 0x0402 AGP nvidia
Chip: 1 is -> NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 02:00:0 0x10de 0x0402 AGP nvidia
(I chose these because they have no fans and when working from home, quiet is nice to have!)
The following options are recommended to run compiz with NVIDIA and I have enabled them all at one point. However, looking through carefully I don't need to since using the latest drivers and having pretty good video cards all this seems to be (according to the documentation) automatically enabled.

I have installed Gnome to KDE and above mentioned problem discovered. Kontact was over the whole screen and rotation of display was to the left and right not above and down. After uninstalling compiz the mentioned problems are away.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn the Compiz Fusion Desktop Wall plugin settings, I can normally find a "Non Sliding Windows" option (Or at least, I've been able to in recent installs of Ubuntu). However, in the default installation of Compiz that comes with OpenSUSE 11.2, I don't have that option. I double checked to make sure I wasn't losing my mind, and on my Ubuntu 10.4 laptop it IS present (In CCSM under the Desktop Wall Plugin's "Viewport Switching" tab). I even went so far as to check to see if it's in the gconf database, and it's not on Suse, but is on Ubuntu. Installing the compiz extras package did not help. I even tried putting the key into the gconf database on Suse, but of course it didn't work.
The only thing I noticed is that Suse appears to be using an older version of Compiz (Suse: compiz 0.7.8; Ubuntu: compiz 0.8.4). Being a fairly experienced linux user (however being new to Suse itself), I'd like to check if there is a simpler solution than compiling from scratch. Anyone ever run across this/solved this already? The final goal is to make my desktop wallpaper and gnome panels static when viewport sliding.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed the brand new Open Suse 11.3 on my new Dell Studio. I installed Compiz and other packages from official repo. But after installing when I used the desktop configuration utility to change the default Window Manager to Compiz all the window decorators like window title , minimize maximize, close buttons were gone. I tried searching for emerald fusion theme manager only to find out tht these have been dropped and older repos have been deleted.
I am not liking the default Window manager. I wanted to get themes like before. I have been using Suse for the last 6 years but this is the first time I am not able to get what I want. I just dont like this default manager. I want the look which looks better than Windows 7 ...

In 11.3 Compiz .8.x worked fine but not .9.x
In 11.4 "compiz --replace" displays no error messages, but starts up with no window decorations.
In ccsm window decorations, kde comparability, OpenGL and composting are all checked. Even tried as a different user after rm'ing the compiz-1 folder.
Composting using Kwin works fine.
There is a thread for 11.3 with problems on window deco with compiz Compiz - no window decorations for compiz in 11.3, kde4I thought I might start one for 11.4.11.4 KDE4.6.0 64-bits.I have posted in the above link, saying what I did and also why I need compiz and not kwin as my window manager. This means KWin is not a replacement for me.So I wonder if anyone got compiz working with any of the window deco in 11.4 KDE4.6?Other option I could post errors I get when I start kde4-window-decorator inside compiz. No I cannot use emerald (it's my favorite) cuz as explained in the above post, the basic package does not seem to exist in any repo so far (for 11.4). Not sure if I can compile it yet, might want to take a look at that as well.
View 3 Replies View RelatedBasically what has happened is that I have installed the nvidia drivers for a 9800 GT from the One-click install for the newer video cards. It seems to have succeeded although I am having difficult activating 3D effects. What happens is that whenever I activate Compiz settings, it works for about 2 seconds (wobbly windows is my test) and then quickly goes back to standard. Is this something I have done wrong or is my hardware incompatible? It works in other distributions I have tried so I'm assuming it is a fault on my part.
