anyone can tell me how i can make sure that compiz starts on boot in LXDE?i got opensuse 11.3 LXDE, but need to change to compiz manually each time i boot my system by starting simple-ccsm and checking the enable checkbox.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed OS11.4 on my old laptop, Compaq Armada E500., 512MB RAM, ATI Rage Mobility. During installation I chose "minimal server" and added some development packages, lxde and a little more. I chose to start in runlevel 3 which is full networking without X. Still, when computer is booted it tries to start Xorg which doesn't work because of some problem w driver. The start-up seems to stop there, it never loads completely - seems most things in runlevel 3 are not started (see below) I can manually login on laptop and fix it - but never permanently, same thing again after reboot.
I have checked /etc/inittab & yast - both states default runlevel is 3. I have checked services to be started both directly, browsing directory /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/, and with YaST, it is very clear X should not load during boot. But, as said, it does.. I don't really care about the driver problem right now, I can fix that later when I have more time. So how do I stop X from getting started automatically?
More info, if needed: The installation also stopped with message on tty1 "Starting YaST2" and tty8 showing errors with graphics driver (mach64). The system seemed to be installed though, so I simply rebooted (issuing "reboot" from tty2).

I'm not completely sure where it stops, network is configured but keyboard is wrong and mysql & everything after is not started, so somewhere between S02network and S06kbd. I'm going to use it as a server for testing purposes so no X is actually needed - however I do want to have X & lxde installed just in case, my Internet connection at home is terribly slow so I need most things I might need in the future installed today.
Where can i get opensuse 11.4 lxde iso from ? Can anyone post link?

Therefor i download this: Derivatives - openSUSE and tied to get this on USB-Stick with Unetbootin.
The EEEPC bootet but obviously the image was not able to boot.
Booting the ISO from CDROM from a external drive it works.
Is it not designed to boot from USB?

The following describes odd behavior in my opinion, but I'm not sure where this question belongs. How can a monitor affect the loading of application SW? Can I get some help to fix the following problem here?I installed lxde on a P3 with a Gem 17" CRT monitor. LXDE runs on top of opensuse 11.4. On a P4 box I installed kde with 11.4, both from the same DVD. The P4 OS was installed using Vivitron 1776 17" CRT monitor.
Both boxes use qinternet for connection to DSL. Qinternet is set to autostart and its icon displays in the taskbar system tray. I bought a ViewSonic E70 17" CRT monitor for the P4 and put the Vivitron on the P3.Now the P3 displays the qinternet icon in a small terminal instead of loading it into the system tray as before. Of the three 17" CRT monitors I have, only with the Gem will the P3 (LXDE) system display qinternet in the system tray.The P4 system (KDE4) can run any of the monitors and still put the qinternet icon into the system.Qinternet is a binary file, but if i "less" it, I can see references to kinternet, so I think it's KDE4 SW. LXDE may be the culprit, or maybe the behavior will involve xorg
Whenever I tried to install LXDE using the 1-click install, YaST2 just freezes and doesn't respond and doesn't install anything. In fact, YaST2 always freezes whenever trying to install a program with the 1-click install.
So my question is, How do you abort YaST2 from installing because obviously the Abort button doesn't even work! And lastly, how can I install LXDE through the terminal as I always never have a problem installing something through the terminal.
I'm running an old P3 with 512 of Ram.I installed Opensuse 11.2 with the KDE desktop, and then I went online and used the one-click install to install the LXDE desktop.Now I'm trying to get my machine to boot directly to LXDE.If I end a KDE session, I can select LXDE as a new session and get into it fine. It seems to run well on this machine. But if I shutdown from LXDE, my next boot sends me straight into KDE. It seems the only way I can get to LXDE is to be in KDE first, which is kind of defeating the whole reason why I wanted a light weight and quick booting desktop for this machine.Am I missing something? I thought Opensuse automatically rebooted back into whatever desktop was used last?

Everything seems fine for the moment, apart from the fact that I can't seem to delete the LiveCD user, even when logged in as my own account. Even logging in to a terminal from my own log-in seems to result in a whoami output of linux (the liveCD user).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed lxde from a live cd and can't boot into anything. At first, when I rebooted, the computer went to grub>, so I used grub commands to find the grub menu lst. It was in (hd0,5). So I made that the root and grub said it was successful. I rebooted, now I get error 25. Was I supposed to enable one of the boot options in the setup? The setup showed two boot options, MBR and root (I think), both disabled. I just clicked continue. Did I mess up the install setup?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince this morning, I'm having a problem which symptoms are similar to this one : Cannot Login, KDE won't start - OpenSUSE 11.3, but it affects only one user.Everything was fine yesterday, but now, everytime this one user tries to start his KDE session, the screen goes black for a few seconds before coming back to the login screen.
I tried the following :
- I installed LXDE and tried to log in : same problem
- I tried to log in Xterm : no problem
- I created a new user and tried to log in : no problem, be it KDE or LXDE
- I cleared /tmp : same problem. My /home partition is 98% full but still has 2-3GB available. The / partition is 45% full with 28GB left.

From what I've gathered so far, it seems the problem is user-specific, graphical session-sepcific, but not desktop-specific (since both KDE and freshly installed LXDE fail in the same way)... and now I don't know what else to try.

I have tried Gnome on it, KDE and also XFCE but I really must say LXDE wins big time.I do have one question though: how can I share folders so it is possible to have this desktop in my home network and share files between the computers?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop that is a little bit older, and OpenSUSE was running pretty heavy on it with the KDE and Gnome desktops (I installed Gnome, tried it for bit, then wiped it and did a clean install with KDE).
Since it was so sluggish on that laptop, I grabbed a couple live CD's of OpenSUSE with the LXDE and XFCE desktop environments. The XFCE disc doesn't seem to boot at all, which I tried in a couple different computers, and on Virtualbox with the same result.
LXDE worked fine and I installed it just fine, with hopes of switching over to XFCE later, as I like it better. This brings me to my question, can someone tell me what the easiest way is to switch from the LXDE desktop to XFCE?

I went there, I clicked on 11.3 on the right hand side, and then clicked on the 1-click install option for X11fce, the first option. It opens the YaST software manager and I followed the prompts, and it finished. All of the packages were installed, except XDM.
I was expecting that the software would install and configure the desktop, and I'd reboot to see an XFCE login. This was not the case.
what the correct, and safe way would be to switch desktops?
I can set it but when I reboot it goes back to default

When I mount my external usb-drive within KDE it's mounted on /media/disk.
When I mount my external usb-drive (yes, the same one) within LXDE it's mounted on /media/72F580136411D534.
Not a great deal, but when I use DirSyncPro to backup some stuff I have to make adjustments to my saved settings, e.g. change the target folders.
I installed Open Suse 11.3 LXDE from the live CD I downloaded. My monitor settings reset to the highest resolution on every shutdown/reboot. Other settings like my wallpaper and removing the lock screen on screensaver also reset.
Is this there anything I can do to get settings/changes I make to stay?
I'm using opensuse 11.3 32bit with LXDE. I have configured an apache tomcat server listening on port 8080. Yast was used to open udp 8080 and tcp 8080 in the firewall by manual entry under the advanced button of 'allowed services' menu.Another system was used to access the tomcat server via a firefox webbrowser. The attempt was unsuccessful. The url used was [URL]. firefox webbrowser keeps showing'connecting ...' until timeout. I'm assuming that inspite of the specified port openings in the firewall, it is somehow ignored. If I were to disable the firewall, then I can access the tomcat server with the firefox webbrowser.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLubuntu is nice - but it seems the LXDE version is not as up to date as Fedora LXDE Spin or even Debian squeeze with LXDE installed. I do like Chromium on Lubuntu though... its faster and a nice touch. I am looking for a lightweight 64-bit distribution for my main laptop (it is by no means "old" or "low spec" but I like that Lubuntu starts up in like 2 secs).
LXDE version seems not to be recent (esp in 10.04 version which seems to work more stably for me - with Nvidia drivers etc)64 bit install is currently a pain - requires first install of minimal CD or alternate CD both of which required wired Ethernet, then install of lubuntu from PPA. Native 64-bit support would be nice. Linux Mint LXDE, for example, is also only 32-bit.
