I'm running Compiz with the Classic desktop in Ubuntu 11.04. I've noticed that doing the slightest thing will make the window decorations disappear...enabling desktop cube, clicking the menu icon in the titlebar, whatever. I'm running two GTX 570s (not in SLI), could this be an nvidia driver problem or something else?
Some time ago, more than a year, and while using linux mint, I had created a shortcut to turn off and on the decoration of the focused window. Now, with compiz settings manager (not the simple one) I cannot find such an option. Any ideas?
There is a thread for 11.3 with problems on window deco with compiz Compiz - no window decorations for compiz in 11.3, kde4I thought I might start one for 11.4.11.4 KDE4.6.0 64-bits.I have posted in the above link, saying what I did and also why I need compiz and not kwin as my window manager. This means KWin is not a replacement for me.So I wonder if anyone got compiz working with any of the window deco in 11.4 KDE4.6?Other option I could post errors I get when I start kde4-window-decorator inside compiz. No I cannot use emerald (it's my favorite) cuz as explained in the above post, the basic package does not seem to exist in any repo so far (for 11.4). Not sure if I can compile it yet, might want to take a look at that as well.
I was using the open source ATI drivers and KDE's compositing worked, so I hadn't installed compiz. I wanted to try fglrx because I thought a) I might be able to get temperature readings, and b) it might stop Kubuntu from making my computer incredibly hot (in Windows 7 it stays cool). So I installed fglrx by enabling it in the restricted hardware drivers thing, and things worked, but compositing was disabled and no matter what I did I couldn't enable it. So I installed compiz. When I run compiz, I get the following output:
I upgraded to 11.04 this morning, and I just flat out have zero window decorations which is a serious problem. This pretty much means that where windows happen to spawn is where they're stuck as I cannot move them ( aside from chrome which has its own I believe. )
This happens in Unity and Gnome-panel, fluxbox remains unaffected. I've completely removed, reinstalled unity and compiz several times now. That's not the problem. I've tried pointing the window decorator to /usr/bin/gtk-window-decorator but I might as well be shouting at a wall for all thats doing.
running unity --reset is have zero results as well. If it matters at all my video card is an ATI HD Radeon 4650, and yes I've uninstalled the proprietary driver and reinstalled it ( I get the same results with the open source driver ). Also if it makes any difference I'm running 64 bit.
I got many problems after installing ubuntu 10.04 on del vostro!! Problems: when I right click the background i can find only one option "change background".I am expecting something like "create folder" ,"create launcher " etc. when i tried to move clock, notification area, window selector, i can't because all the things out there are locked and and unlocked is not available! i can't find window decorations for nautilus and most other windows but i have it in case of system settings windows. i tried metacity --replace but it is not working.
I was wondering how i could achieve this. I know about !state=maxvert but this removes the titlebars on all applications.(any)&!(name=opera) will do this just for opera but the problem is when i unmaximize it the titlebar will still be gone. How can i make sure that all applications will have their titlebar when maximized exept opera and firefox, and all applications inclusing these 2 have titlebars when unmaximized?
New 11.3 install and working the wiggles out one at a time. If I minimize a window on the desktop it just disappears. Any and all open windows. Can't figure out how to maximize it again. They still active somewhere because I have to kill it (crtl / esc / kill process) to close Firefox and any other windows regardless of the application. Where are they going and how I do I modify this behavior
i need some program like "amor" screenshot here: it's funny emoticon that is walking moving and jumping on the screen and windows. I remember when i had WindowSS$ ... the problem of this program is that i cannot set numbers of creatures and also creatures from here are ugly and i would like to slightly larger creatures ... i know this program i stupid and totally useless for people but exist something other just for fun ?
I installed today debian wheezy from OpenSUSE system via bootstrap. I have some strange behaviour with kde. At first kde worked fine and the only problem was that if I tried to logout from kde session, instead of kdm shows up, a black screen appear with mouse cursor working. I first ignore this error(because I had some problems with audio) and just reboot from vt console or sometimes restart kdm service. After I solved the audio problem I've searched to find some solution about kdm black screen problem. I found on kde forums a solution about terminate xserver option on kdmrc file, which didn't work in my case, but create another problem.
The problem is that now when I pass the mouse cursor from windows topbars I have glitches on window decorations. So I disable the above option again, reboot but the graphics problems was still there. I tried to uncheck vsync from desktom effects and the resault was all desktop effects to be disabled. Now I cannot re-enable desktop effects any more. But now I can logout and relogin. 3D works fine(glxgears works) but I cannot enable desktop effects. And I think that some effects work, because I see some smooth movements and fade outs when I pass the mouse cursor on kmenu items. My card is ATI radeon HD 4650, and I have the xorg-video-ati driver installed.
After upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04, at first everything worked fine. Then i changed the compiz configuration to cube, confirmed some questions, and now i have no window decorations. No icons for close, minimize, maximize. No resizing by mouse. No title bar.
In the launcher, i lost applications and files&?, and in the top menu bar, i lost the leftmost part, where some menus and the Ubuntu icon were found.
I have Suse 11.4 and GNOME 2.32.1 When I click on Computer -> Places -> Home then VLC Media Player opens instead of the window with my home folder that should actually pop up. The same thing happens with all other icons in the Places tab.
I'm not sure about anybody else, but I have spent many hours today trying to figure out how to get Compiz as a window manager. Alas, I have tasted success. Once compiz and Emerald are both installed, simply go to Code:Configure Desktop > Default Applications > Window Management and then select from the drop down menu. Now those beautiful emerald themes will work. I have seen many other 'solutions' for KDE4 and they may have worked for some, but not for me. I hope this will help somebody who may be as frustrated as I was.
I recently installed the brand new Open Suse 11.3 on my new Dell Studio. I installed Compiz and other packages from official repo. But after installing when I used the desktop configuration utility to change the default Window Manager to Compiz all the window decorators like window title , minimize maximize, close buttons were gone. I tried searching for emerald fusion theme manager only to find out tht these have been dropped and older repos have been deleted.
I am not liking the default Window manager. I wanted to get themes like before. I have been using Suse for the last 6 years but this is the first time I am not able to get what I want. I just dont like this default manager. I want the look which looks better than Windows 7 ...
Processor: Intel Core i7 1.76GHz Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon 5470 1 GB (Using the latest driver) I have 3D running Using ATI Driver
Is there some way top stop the "blind effect" of compiz so that when you double click the top title bar of a window that it maximizes the window instead of the rolling up type effect? Also when i place my mouse on the top right of the screen it brings it to a choosing window type mode where you can pick which window you would like to open, is it possible to get this on the top left of the screen instead? Lastly when I use Kdebluetooth4 to send a file to my computer where does that file save to?
I recently upgraded the motherboard/processor on my computer (as in quadrupled the processor and octupled the ram). The new board has a built in GPU (intel) and from searching the forums, I think this is part of the problem. Every time I boot up the computer, I need to open the Compiz icon and use it to reload the window manager before I see any title bars, borders, etc. 've tried the .bashrc hack (metacity --replace), but that doesn't do anything. In fact, whenever I open the terminal, I need to have two tabs open in order to use it, and when I close it all the borders go away again (even when I haven't done anything). Also, the onboard sound card (intel) doesn't work, but that's another task (I at least have a compatible card for that).
I have Compiz and two panels - one at the bottom and on the side. Before running Compiz, both of them become visible on mouse hover. After Compiz starts, the one on the side would not show. I have no idea what is causing it. Could it be the cube?
I have a rather odd problem. Ubuntu 11.04 came installed with the nvidia 173 drivers, which I replaced with the current ones. Neither loaded Unity, so I downloaded Nvidia's 270.41.06 drivers from their website. Still no unity.
If I run compiz --replace, however, compiz works fine, and Unity loads, albeit extremely buggy, most likely because all of the gnome components are still running (e.g., if I click anywhere on the top panel, it goes away).
Some of my applications use different window types for pull-down menus than what compiz window animation think. This means that I get normal open window animation on these pull-down menus instead of the menu-theme. Inside the CompizConfig you can specify exactly which window types the different animations apply to, and you can use "grab" to probe your window for this info. My problem is that I can't "grab" the info for the pull-down, since it leaves "grab" mode once I try to open the menu (and grabs the info for the parent window instead of the menu). How do I get to know the window properties of the pull-downs, so that I can map them to the relevant window animation theme?
I want to start a program which starts from terminal window and needs sudo permission. How can I start it from Application menu without need of any permission?
I spent *#@$ hours trying to figure out how to change my default window manager to "compiz-manger".I tried using gconf-editor and .gnomercAnybody has an idea how to do this?
Has this feature been removed from the version of Compiz that comes with 10.04?I was running 9.10 for a few months and I configured a feature for zooming out windows into a kind of preview mode.I remember setting up a key combo and when I clicked on any window and pressed the combo, it would cycle between 2 preview sizes of around 25% and 10% and then back to it's normal size.I could drag a zoomed-out window around the desktop but obviously it would not be usable until it was restored to normal size.
The window contents would still update though and it was a great way of keeping an eye on many windows at once.I have looked at every single setting in CompizConfig Settings Manager but it's nowhere to be found and I really miss it!
I couldn't find a section for visual customization. Is it possible to make it so that windows not being used have a certain opacity, and windows being used have another? Also, how can you change the opacity of menus? I used to be able to do this, but it seems I've forgotten.
I setup fedora 14 64 bit today itself and am loving it! But the problem i am facing is in compiz! When i enable desktop effects from System/Prefrences/Desktop Effects, everything works absolutely fine. All the effects... But when i try to resize a window, Compiz crashes and all the borders of the window disappear. The ABRT shows an error. Here is what it says
Package: compiz-0.8.6-3.fc14 Latest Crash:Sun 09 Jan 2011 05:44:37 PM Command: compiz --ignore-desktop-hints glib gconf gnomecompat --replace Reason: Process /usr/bin/compiz was killed by signal 11 (SIGSEGV) Comment: None Bug Reports:
I was hoping someone could tell me how to turn off the basic windows effects in compiz but keep it turned on so I can use something like Docky.
The reason is because nautilus takes a few painful seconds to open up with the effects turned on and some times I end up clicking a folder etc a second time thinking it hasn't opened.
(This started after I upgraded from Ubuntu 8 ) Everytime I enable desktop effects (system -> preferences -> appearance) compiz replaces the pretty New Wave window border with the ugly Emerald glass window border (custom border) that I used on Ubuntu 8.
I have just upgraded from 10.04 -> 10.10 and my 'scale' plugin is not working properly in compiz (the rest works well).I do have the effect working with "super+a, super+w" , but "edge" does not work.I can modify values via gconf, I have: "initiate_all_edge" set to "BottomLeft" but this doesnt respond. The weirdest thing is that the compiz scale options part instead of giving me 4 tabs of options -> gives this.(image below) i tried reinstalling a few times & purge compiz + install back, but result remained the same.
