Applications :: Make Firefox Start Up Automatically In A Full Screen Window?

May 11, 2010

I've been Googling all day and cannot find the answer. I find all the "GUI" ways to do it through Gnome and KDE but I'm not using either...I have an EEE PC set to boot up automatically to openbox and want Firefox to start after that in a full screen openbox window.I've tried adding the firefox command to ~/.initrc but it won't execute. I tried the command in .profile. This brings up firefox on a black screen without openbox.Firefox comes up fine when executed from the openbox menu.

Ubuntu :: Move The Window Control Buttons When The Window Is In Full Screen Mode?

May 3, 2011

How do I move the Window control buttons when the window is in full screen mode? I.e.: I know how to go into gconf-editor:

Code:
gconf-editor --> apps --> metacity --> general --> button layout = ":minimize,maximize,close"
(I've intentionally disabled the menu...)

What I want is my window controls to be on the right side of the window when the window is in full screen mode.

Also I've had an issue with the Unity dockbar glitching out. I can still click on the buttons (i.e. the logout button) but it displays like a nintendo game inserted crooked. Is there a way to 'restart' unity without log out/ log in?

Any one else experienced any glitches with unity auto hiding/showing?

Applications :: TCPdump Setup To Automatically Start Process Again

Jul 1, 2010

We are having a Linux box with Tcpdump continuously running on it to monitor bunch of sources. Separate Tcpdump process runs in a background for each host for monitoring traffic. I use -w option with it to save the capture in the pcap format to analyze it later. Now what I need is, if the Linux machine gets rebooted amidst of its packet capturing activity, I want tcpdump to automatically start the process again for every host without overwriting previous captures.

Remember: Without overwriting previous captures . . .
Basically, I will be keeping all the tcpdump commands in the shell script and will load the script at startup during the linux boot. Is there any way to achieve this case, where by on rebooting, Tcpdump does not overwrite previous captures?

Ubuntu :: Switching Desktops From Full Screen Applications?

Feb 4, 2011

I'd like to run a number of applications full screen (e.g., VirtualBox, Vendetta Online) but I'd also like to switch to my other Gnome Desktops easily.

Unfortunately, these applications seem to intercept my default and all other hotkeys I have tried for switching desktops ... I know there is a solution for VirtualBox via the host key, but I am looking for something more "generic".

Is there, for example, any way to catch key strokes in Gnome/Compiz before the full screen app receives them?

Ubuntu :: Applications Not Working In Full Screen Mode

Jul 17, 2011

I have installed ubuntu 11.04 just yesterday and have installed the necessary nvidia graphic drivers too. But when I maximize any application(be it chrome, firefox, vlc, media player), the whole screen becomes white and when I escape from it to make it of small window, it again runs normally. Sometimes it work fine, but most of the times it is like what I told above. Please tell me some solution or I will have to go back to windows.

Fedora :: Dual Monitor - Window Maximizes To Full Screen?

Feb 11, 2010

I just rebuilt my fedora box and I'm having some problems getting dual monitors to work. First, I can't reposition my secondary monitor to be on the left. It thinks it's on the right. I can use xrandr to fix this, but that is annoying. Is there no way to do this in the display properties? Second, maximizing a window makes it go across all screens. I unchecked this option in the display properties.I also unchecked the one for letting windows be in multiple monitors at once, but this still happens.

This obnoxious bar has just appeared in Smplayer at the top of the screen. It stays there even when I go full screen. Now full screen isn't full screen and there are black edges on both sides of the screen. I have not be able to figure out how to hide it. I do not need or want this onscreen display. How can I configure Smplayer to make this go away? How can I get my 16:9 full screen aspect ratio back? I have done nothing to mplayer or smplayer as far as editing any or changing any configuration files. I tried several videos and it displays on all of them. It was not there last time I used Smplayer.

Ubuntu :: Make A Command Run Automatically On Start-up?

May 27, 2011

I have a lenovo thinkpad laptop, and it has both touch-pad (standard build in laptop mouse) and touch-point (in the middle of the keyboard) mouse options.

I almost invariably use the touch-point and the accompanied scroller and key-buttons.

HOWEVER, for the scroller to be recognized by ubuntu you must run two scripts as follows:

xinput set-int-prop "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint" "Evdev Wheel Emulation" 8 1
xinput set-int-prop "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint" "Evdev Wheel Emulation Button" 8 2

Restarting the computer resets these settings, and you must re-run them each time you start up ubuntu.

I am looking to write a script that will automatically run itself (which will execute the above commands), or to permanently change these settings so that it will not be necessary to run them at each start-up.

Thanks in advance, and if there is another thread on these forums that I should move to (or even just another thread that would be a more likely place to get a response). This seemed like the best forum (one which can certainly hold this post without violating any rules), but I may have missed something.

Fedora :: Firefox Doesn't Open Full Screen?

Sep 7, 2009

I've had this happen so often in the past, that I'm ready to ditch firefox altogether. I'm running F10 on a 3Ghz Intel dual core processor with a 500gb hdd. l prefer that my browser start up with a full screen when I launch it and firefox has been doing this just fine for the past 8 months. When I fired up firefox (version 3.0.13) this morning, it started up using only half the screen. As I've mentioned this has happened to me in the past and I've never been able to figure out how to get FF back to starting with a full screen. Does anyone know how to make it default back to opening in full screen mode? I've attached an image of how FF is opening now.

General :: Make Openbox Automatically Start To Use A Specific Gtk Profile?

Jul 7, 2010

I have switched to openbox from Gnome and would now like to stop using Metacity altogether. When I was using metacity I had both a control theme (e.g. gtk theme) and fonts set up how I liked them in gnome-appearance-proporties. When Openbox starts, it gets my window borders up properly (ofc.) but fails to render my fonts properly and uses the wrong gtk theme. I can't find anywhere to specify which gtk theme to use or what method to render my text with. After Openbox is finished doing it's thing, and I run gnome-apperance-properties manually, it will automatically set everything to it's proper value, but I don't want to have to do this as it takes several seconds to preform and I'd rather not have it jury rigged like this.

General :: Gnome - Configure The Definition Of "full Screen" To Make Large VNC Windows Behave Nicely On A Dual Screen Setup?

Dec 15, 2010

In my corporate environment, I'm required to run a Windows machine that acquires a VNC session on a machine in the server farm. My windows machine is dual head with different resolution monitors ( 1600x1080 on left and 1920x1200 on right). If I create a VNC session that spans the monitors, then maximizing a window in the VNC session causes it to stretch across both my monitors.

Instead, I want a "maximize" event to behave like it does on my windows machine -- I only want to maximize to the display that the window is on.

How can I define what, what I'll call, "maximize regions"? Regions in the VNC graphical plane where when I click "maximize", the window only expands to the region it currently ( and mostly) resides in.

Can I do this in gnome, X, xrandr, or some other magical interface?
