Anyone know the trick to getting Ubuntu to show the contents of a window while I resize it? It WAS doing this until I loaded up the drivers for my Nividia Quador 135M (works great!) I'm very happy with my Ubuntu 9.10, I even have all the bouncy window effects running.
Still, I would love get rid of the "faded blue resizing box" and see the contents instead.
Ever since I installed 10.04 my window resizing has been incredibly slow. The type or resizing I mean is when you grab the bottom-right corner or one of the sides. I used to use 9.04 a while back and never had this issue. I have an nVidia 8400. My monitor is a Dell 22" widescreen at 1680x1050 resolution and 60hz. I do not have any visual effects turned on.

In 11.04, how can I disable windows automatically resizing when they're dragged to an edge? It's incredibly irritating.

I am partitioning so that ububtu has 100GB, but should it be taking this long - it's been about 25 mins. Is this normal?

The 'pixel width' is too low, such that trying to get my mouse to line up just perfectly on the window edge to get the resize icon, is very difficult. After a bit of searching, I discovered Alt F8, which, for those that don't know, is a resize shortcut and works very well, however, I will still use the 'edge resizing' option quite a bit, and would like to widen the 'line' a few pixels. Is this possible in a user settings file, or is this hardcoded? I am learning to develop, so I wouldn't mind looking into this one as a beginning project. If that's the case, could someone point me to the appropriate package?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed openSUSE on my macbook pro 7,1. As of now I am trying to update the software, unfortunately, I have encountered a problem. As I hit the "Install Updates" icon, I get a window that gives me a readout of the current updates. No problem there. However, after I click the "Update" button, a second window pops up that gives a very long list of other software that needs to be either removed, installed, or updated for the original updates to be installed. Only problem is the list is so long, it extends beyond the visible desktop. This is a problem because I cannot click on the button to install those updates. The window cannot be re-sized, so there is no way I can reach the button, and I have even tried rotating the desktop 90 degrees (to make it longer), but still to no avail, as the install button is out of reach even then. I don't know how I can update the software if I can't hit the right button. Is there perhaps another way to get around this (like with terminal)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhile attempting to download an epub file, I chose "open with the ebook widget" and to run rather than save and then clicked the box which says "always chose to do this and don't show this window again" (or something equivalent). The operation failed to bring up the file in the widget and the window no longer appears so I cannot try something else, e.g. "save".
How do I recover the original setting? (i.e. untick the box on the window that now does not appear).
I am using the latest Mint on a multi-booted DELL Studio 1740 notebook.
In Debian 8.1 with KDE, I don't find how to disable the automatic resizing of windows when the mouse drags a window to screen edges; seems that this function is called "aero snap".
I would like to disable this aero snap function.
I know these folders each have >80gb of files. Yet, they only show 4.0K in ls -lah? How can I have ls show size including the contents?

After upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04, at first everything worked fine. Then i changed the compiz configuration to cube, confirmed some questions, and now i have no window decorations. No icons for close, minimize, maximize. No resizing by mouse. No title bar.
In the launcher, i lost applications and files&?, and in the top menu bar, i lost the leftmost part, where some menus and the Ubuntu icon were found.
I'm obviously having a problem with my onboard video but don't know how to fix it. Ever since I upgraded to Natty, if I maximize any window or resize it to more than about half the total area of my monitor, the contents of the window go totally blank. I can still see the window's title bar, but there's just a blank white space beneath that. I never had this problem before the upgrade. What do I need to do?

I normally use a very lightweight Linux setup. No desktop like Gnome or KDE, just Icewm as the windows manager and nothing else that normal users might consider essential. Well, I do need a file manager - I use Thunar.
Recently I've been trying Gnome. Whenever I shove a memory stick into a USB port, or connect my digital camera, it can automatically pop up a file manager showing all the goodies on that device. KDE does this too. I like this. Although quick at the command line, I like not having to go sudo to mount the device and all that.
If I want to stick with a lightweight setup using Icewm+Thunar, is there something non-huge I can install to make external devices fire up a Thunar window, or otherwise make access to the contents brainlessly easy?
On Slackware64 13.37 with a Geforce 6150LE + Nvidia 275.09.07, the contents of a window turn black when I maximize it.
For now I've worked around it by disabling desktop effects.
Recently i had migrated from windows 7 to fedora 15. i have lot of flipbooks with me and unable to open those flipbooks in fedora. finding a suitable solution to open those flipbooks. is there a software to open these books linux. in windows there is no requirement for special softwares to open flipbook, since it is similar to flv or swf files. i had already tried with wine. with wine the file is opened but do not displays the contents or pages, show a blank white screen. @people who dont know about flipbooks: flipbooks are flash objects usually created from pdf files used for reading, flipbooks simulate the reallife book actions(page turning).

I have the problem that Window Selector continuously change the window list from one column to two columns of windows icons.
It is so impossible to click on a window icon to select it.
I've tried to set the size to larger and different sizes. I've tried to show or hide the panel. I've tried to group or ungroup windows.
Is there a way to tell windows selector to stay in one column windows list?
Vidalia control panel has no check box for "show this window on startup". Is there a way using linux commands to stop it from popping up or would I need to change something else?

Anyway since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 when I right-click on something and there is another menu in that menu, it doesn't show up for the first time!
for example if I want to create a an "Empty File", I'll right-click on desktop and when I want to go to "Create Document" menu, it doesn't show up! so I must click somewhere else and try again so for the second time it works!!
I configured it to use IMAP to access our exchange 2010 server front end on a LAN connection. Our webmail connection is segregated behind Forefront, so it was not connecting/authing that way. Even though smartphones have no problem. (sidenote, is there an activesync linux mail client ?)
I have many root folders and several folders underneath my inbox. total mailsize in inbox is 3.5 GB without subfolders. The sent is likewise as large. And is likewise empty.

is this possible ? I have 3 partitions 2 different Linuxes on of which Ubuntu and one MS Windows. One of the partitions has come too small. Can I resize all in safe way when plenty of empty space on one partition ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an external 3TB hdd which is all NTFS formatted. I want to claim a portion of the drive for an ext2 partition.
I was hoping to resize my NTFS partition ... but it seems GParted on Lucid (even cd boot), doesn't list my external usb device at all.
Any idea why that might be? I read somewhere that the device should be unmounted before it can be detected but it makes no difference - even after a device list-refresh in GParted.
(I tried running the install/setup Windows software which came with the ext drive but there is no option for resizing it)
