I'm running on 11.04 on my Dell Inspiron 1764, and so far haven't been able to achieve internet access through either a direct wired connection or wireless.
Wireless network controller: Broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)
Ethernet controller: Realtek RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02)
Fixes I've tried so far:
Wired - Attempted to install the r8168 driver and remove the r8169 driver as is done in this thread:
url
Wireless - managed a fleeting wired connection yesterday, during which time I installed the Broadcom STA driver through Additional Drivers.
Also attempted to install the firmware-b43-lpphy-installer, following these instructions:
url
but to no avail (under Synaptic Package Manager, the firmware-b43-lpphy-installer still remains unchecked after I install it through terminal)
i've installed openSUSE 11.2/KDE. Installation process finishes with fun. The first thing that i wanted in my laptop don't work. That's wireless internet. I've google and google. saw many thereds in openSUSE forms and check what i understand after reading thereds. Finally what i understand is i've to install firmware. I've downloaded the b43-fwcutter and broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4.tar. Installed b43-fwcutter. and copy broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4.tar. in to root. by using

I have a Dell inspiron 1420 and its set up as a dual boot. Windows/Fedora.I cant get the wireless card to work. I review some previous posts but still cant get it working.
I did a /sbin/lspci
Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4310 USB Controller (rev 01)
I did $rpm -q b43-fwcutter
b43-fwcutter-011-3.fc9.i386
I have installed Suse 11.3 on my Dell 2110, and everything went fine (wireless network included). After a couple of weeks, while I was trying to access a wireless network, the wireless module ceased to work. Now on knetworkmanager the option to enable wireless network is grey and cannot be selected. Following some indications I found in this forum for a similar issue, I uninstalled the broadcom drivers and re-install them again, with a cold start between the two phases as suggested, without success. After that, the option on knetworkmanager is still grey, and from yast the wireless module appears as "not configured". If I switch to ifup and configure it, the situation does not change.
This is my current configuration:
Suse 11.3, kernel 2.6.34.7-0.3-desktop, 64 bit version.
KDE 4.4.4 "release 3"
I am using the following drivers:
b43-firmware 4.174.64.19-3.pm.3.1
b43-fwcutter 012-6.1

My wireless device is an integrated Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card, I am unsure about the driver I have in use. I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I currently have the computer plugged into my network via CAT 5 but I would like to be able to use the wireless (obviously.) I am using Open SuSE version 11.2 and I have run the updater. I could not see my wireless network before running the updater and I can now so I know that the updates have helped but I am again stuck. I have tried to search the wireless forum and I have tried to tinker with the settings in YaST , but nothing seems to be working. Reading the Welcome page of the wireless forum, I tried the Broadcom chip-set advice:

I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.
turn wireless card on for the Dell Studio 16 (1645) for SUSE 11.2 64-bit.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just completed installing openSuse 11.1 I followed the detailed steps given in Getting Your Wireless to Work When I try to scan for available APs in the vicinity, I get the following error.
~> sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
Can someone guide me in configuring my wireless connection. Also, since I do not happen to have a wired connection, I am alternating between openSuse and windows everytime i need internet.
I have loaded the latest version of opensuse and I have everything working but I cannot connect to my wireless WPA2 network. I have downloaded the bcm43xx firmware using the method /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware I then restarted the network. The computer will now read the network card and will find networks but I cannot get it to connect at all. At first it would connect using ifup in yast but would disconnect after a few seconds. It would never connect through NM. I have a usb network card that works just fine. I am lost as to how to fix this problem.

I read the thread about the b43-tools but the git command on there fails.
git clone [URL] Initialized empty Git repository in /sbin/b43-tools/.git/ fatal: [URL] not found: did you run git update-server-info on the server? I am assuming the server is them not me? I have installed the firmware per my dmeg request. And the firmware is installed correctly.

The card works it just will not connect. I think I have that rev 3 issue where I need to edit the SPROM but I can not seem to get the b43-tools installed.
My Dell Vostro 1520's Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card must not have been set-up correctly, as the Network Manager won't even let me select the wireless tab. Please just explain to me, step by step, what exactly I must do to make it work! Additionally, I can't figure out how to disable my Touchpad's Tap to Click funtionality, which must be done if I'm to effectively use my current KDE installation of openSUSE
View 9 Replies View RelatedSorry for repeating the same old complaint but there doesn't seem to be a common fix: Wireless does not work on my Presario R3000 although SUSE 11.x lists the hardware in the Hardware Information list and the hardware is turned on. Network Manager doesn't display any wireless networks in SUSE while Win 7 can see 4 of them on the same machine. Ubuntu has no problem either

I am having trouble getting my wireless internet working on Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell Studio 1535 laptop. My wireless card works just fine in an earlier version (8.10) of Ubuntu. In fact, it worked right out of the box on Intrepid. However, in 9.10, I can not get it to work. I have installed Wicd Network Manager in it, and it shows no networks visible, even though if I reboot and go into my 8.10 version (I have a multiboot), opening Wicd will immediately show several wireless networks within range. So I'm thinking that the 9.10 version is missing a driver for my wireless card, which 8.10 has.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded from openSUSE 11.2 to 11.3. In 11.2 everything worked fine: I've booted my laptop, logged in and turn my wireless card on using the hardware wireless button, the KDE Wallet opened up, I inserted the password and voil, wireless connection was on.But after upgrading from 11.3, it doesn't work like that anymore. I need to have the hardware wireless button pressed to on during boot, otherwise Network Manager will not work. And yes, I do check the "Enabled wireless" option, but it doesn't work. When I tried to check it out, I found out that the wireless "Scan" button that scans and displays the available wireless connections shows nothing. So, if I forget to put the wireless on for boot, I must restart and put it on. I've tried log off and log on, and restarting some network services, but neither worked.I have an Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG, as showed below, and I'm posting this message using it.

Some info below:
- notebook Fuijtsu Siemens AMILO Pro2065 - 4 gb ram - 80 gb hd - wireless on board Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG
- wireless works properly with Ubuntu (with WEP key)
I'm just installed OpenSuse 11.2 and:
- wireless found my AP
- i've just inserted WEP key / 64 bit Hex-Ascii and..not working!
Suse on an (old even) laptop is even more fun that it is on a desktop. BUT, I still cant get my wireless to work! I have the Encore ENUWI-N3 USB adaptor. Suse sucessfully detects my USB device, recognize its a Wireless lan network adapter, installs it as such (gives it its driver) and adds my wireless menu under network manager. (it gives it the rt2x00) I can enable / disable the USB device from there (its light corroborates that.
So all in all, suse installs my wireless. But I CANNOT find any AP when I scan. Under the "scan" tool (under connec to wireless > A wireless network ect ect) I find no APs. Adding the SSID of the AP manually is of no help either. And the command sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan merely gives - "wlan1 Scan completed" and nothing else. Check ifconfig - not a frame sent/received.
i have a dell inspiron 1764 windows 7. it will connect wirelessly fine on windows 7 side but when i boot to ubuntu cant detect network or anything. what do i need to do.
View 3 Replies View Relatedjust installed ubuntu on a dell inspiron 6400 but the wireless doesnt work.

Can i install/copy the driver from livecd to hard drive, or is there another soultion for this?
i'm using dell n4010 laptop and recently i installed opensuse 11.3. There is a problem. My Wifi is not working. I think my WLAN card is not detected. What to do?

I just bought a new Dell Studio 1558 and I can't turn the wifi on when logging to my account, the wireless card is installed correctly but the button (F2) doesn't work to turn the wifi on.
[You can see the keyboard shape here]
On windows there is a program from dell that associate these keys (wifi -F2- and Eject optical drive) to their functions.
I wonder how can I achieve this under OpenSuse.
Just installed opensuse 11.2 wifi networks not detected

I just installed the broadcom-wl and broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop packages from the packman repository. Then there is a new entry in the bootmanager menu. Using that one, WLAN works fine.By the way: Can somebody explain me the difference between the broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop, broadcom-wl-kmp-default, broadcom-wl-kmp-pae, broadcom-wl-kmp-xen packages? I did not find any documentation about that.
