I have an Aspire 7741z running Ubuntu 10.04 I just loaded the 32 bit version today, then did the Update manager (398 updates) Before the update everything worked fine. After the update, no wireless. Password & security is correct, all wireless setup is correct. Aside from my network, I do have access to a local hotel (next door) and I can always get into their unsecured guest network, that doesn't work either.
I believe it is the driver since I have loaded Ubintu 10.10 32 bit with the same reaction. It will connect when I put in the live disk, but not from the hard install. output from lspci

Sorry for repeating the same old complaint but there doesn't seem to be a common fix: Wireless does not work on my Presario R3000 although SUSE 11.x lists the hardware in the Hardware Information list and the hardware is turned on. Network Manager doesn't display any wireless networks in SUSE while Win 7 can see 4 of them on the same machine. Ubuntu has no problem either
View 1 Replies View RelatedI haven't done Linux since before it had Wireless support, and have never had to tinker with network settings, so I am at a loss.My searching may be weak, but when I tried, I found nothing relevant except to determine some of the things usually asked for in threads of this nature.The symptom is very slow connection when using wireless, but it does fine when I hardwire it. Using Windows 7 on the same system it flows nicely.

Everything worked perfectly fine, networking included, until my friend didn't accidently turned off the wireless by pressing a wireless button on the laptop. I installed openSUSE 11.3 under 2 machines, one of them using a Linksys USB wireless N adapter (rt73usb) and another using an Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (ath5k). I have a Belkin f5D8236-4 router, with the SSID "linksys". I also have an Ubuntu 10.04 machine which has working wireless internet. I know almost nothing about networking, but from what I can tell, openSUSE 11.3 seems to have trouble with DHCP, specifically setting the dynamic IP address. To try to go about fixing this, I attempted to set a static IP, but I am quite confused by all the settings.
I have tried both the graphical "Network Manager" (KDE, Gnome, and command line versions) and ifup, both with no luck.

Last week used lxde11.3 and no problem connecting. Today I switched to xfce11.3
and the wifi card is registering fine as connected but it doesn't send the key out
apparently to register the connection to the modem so it is fully activated.
I think lxde had a network manager but in xfce here I'm using Yast. What mismatch
do I have here ? How do I start a network manager so the key will connect ?
(Beginner)Just installed openSUZE 11.1 Dual boot with Vista. I can set up my wireless settings, wep, etc and it says it connects just fine. But when I try to USE the internet it doesn't work. Nothing in update, nothing in firefox. It says it is connected but it's acting like something is blocking it.

Wifi works on 11.3 with installed the broadcom-wi & broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop,but this trick doesn't work on this new 11.4.

I upgraded to OpenSuse 11.2 and just about the only thing that doesn't work is my wireless internet. From my research, I should be using the iwl4965 or iwlwifi driver; however my system seems to be running iwlagn. I have no idea how to switch it as neither of the correct drivers can be found in my yast, and I've failed to find any information about this on the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link drivers for Linux* website.

I've just worked out how to get the wireless card working with an Acer Aspire D260 wireless card to work.
Enter terminal command;
sudo apt-get install wifi-radar
Then reboot ubuntu 10.04 after it has installed, network manager should now detect wireless networks in range and allow connection, right click network manager icon and select "Enable Wireless" or "Disable wireless" as required to turn on or off. So many others have had problems getting the wifi to work with Acer Aspire D260 netbooks and ubuntu 10.04.
at start, knetworkmanager detect wireless network, but doesn't automatically connect - I have to restart it to make it work properly. Instead, it gives that error:

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 onto my Acer Aspire D260 netbook.I find it much easier to use than Windows 7.Everything has been working fine until I recently tried going on the internet via battery power instead of my A/C charger. My update manager is showing that I am up to date and Additional Drivers is showing that the Broadcom STA wireless driver is installed and in use.

I know the wireless modem is working as I have got a spare USB wireless dongle running on the desktop (ironically - I can only get it working where it is not needed!!!). I've just upgraded from openSUSE 11.2 to 11.3. In 11.2 everything worked fine: I've booted my laptop, logged in and turn my wireless card on using the hardware wireless button, the KDE Wallet opened up, I inserted the password and voil�, wireless connection was on.But after upgrading from 11.3, it doesn't work like that anymore. I need to have the hardware wireless button pressed to on during boot, otherwise Network Manager will not work. And yes, I do check the "Enabled wireless" option, but it doesn't work. When I tried to check it out, I found out that the wireless "Scan" button that scans and displays the available wireless connections shows nothing.So, if I forget to put the wireless on for boot, I must restart and put it on. I've tried log off and log on, and restarting some network services, but neither worked.I have an Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG, as showed below, and I'm posting this message using it.

I'm just installed OpenSuse 11.2 and:
- wireless found my AP
- i've just inserted WEP key / 64 bit Hex-Ascii and..not working!
Suse on an (old even) laptop is even more fun that it is on a desktop. BUT, I still cant get my wireless to work! I have the Encore ENUWI-N3 USB adaptor. Suse sucessfully detects my USB device, recognize its a Wireless lan network adapter, installs it as such (gives it its driver) and adds my wireless menu under network manager. (it gives it the rt2x00) I can enable / disable the USB device from there (its light corroborates that.
So all in all, suse installs my wireless. But I CANNOT find any AP when I scan. Under the "scan" tool (under connec to wireless > A wireless network ect ect) I find no APs. Adding the SSID of the AP manually is of no help either. And the command sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan merely gives - "wlan1 Scan completed" and nothing else. Check ifconfig - not a frame sent/received.
No wireless networking. The ethernet works fine, and the wireless interface itself works well in Windows 7 (dual boot). Tried: Ndiswrapper, notoriously quirky, does not seem to work with the XP driver (the oldest driver available for the RTL8191SE). The linux driver offered on the manufacturer's website lacks any installation instructions. I have no clue how to install a linux driver. SUSE seems to have two network managers that are constantly complaining about control: Network Manager and Yast. Neither are great and I am left missing my Ubuntu.
However, my audio only seems to work on SUSE. I have tried almost every distro on this machine. Ubuntu lacked sound and wireless, Fedora played startup sounds, but would not play an mp3 or wav file (fiddling with the mixer did not help). And Fedora also lacked wireless support. PCLinuxOS, my favorite, lacked sound and wireless. Tried some oldies too. ELE, DSL, Puppy, Ubuntu Netbook remix, Vector, Browserpuppy, Crunchbang, Cruncheee (just for experimental sakes) and probably others I am not remembering. So far, installing a free linux distro has cost me 14 dvd-R's and countless hours of installing, reformatting and reinstalling. Part of me really wanted crunchbang to work, as I love the minimalism and blacked-out theme.
I need wireless network access. The wireless light remains red in Linux and pressing the key does nothing to start the device. In Windows 7 it always lights white and works perfectly. Why hasn't SUSE adopted a gui for ndiswrapper? Other distros have it. Why is my brand new laptop, which is by no means abnormal in make or configuration, not 100% supported natively by any Linux distro? I just updated to the new kernel yesterday. So I should be running the most modern operating system available. Yet good-ol Windows 7 is my only fully functional environment.
Just installed kubuntu(maverick) on my laptop. Strangely enough the wireless doesn't seem to be working. I had no issues with a gnome version of maverick. Now I'm probably doing something wrong, since I'm very new to KDE. But there's a little icon for something called "Networking Interface". There are two checkboxes inside the panel. One's called "Enable Networking"(checked) and "Enable Wireless" which is disabled.
Other than that I can't really elaborate further. I doubt it's a driver issue, since as I already mentioned I had no problems using a gnome ubuntu.
I have an Atheros wireless USB dongle that will connect to my Wifi network just fine in Gnome but in KDE doesn't. I've read through the http://wiki.debian.org/WiFi/HowToUse and have installed all packages and tried all methods noted there but still can't get the wlan0 to work at all in KDE. Is wireless in KDE & Debian Squeeze useless?

Sometimes the connection indicator shows that I am connected, but when I click on it it doesn't show any active networks. Even when I use a wired connection it doesn't always work.
