View 2 Repliessometimes our ADSL connection gives up and we are left without internet connection for days until the problem gets fixed. I mean by this problem along the phone line. It affects all machines that connect to the internet through a Netgear WIFI Modem Router. I recently tried an alternative when this happens is to use a USB Huawei Mobile Broadband UMTS connection which works when you insert it in 1 laptop. Is there a way i could get the Netgear WIFI modem router to connect on that usb stick or PC that is online on that usb stick and give access to other machines that will want to connect to the web ?

well, i tried installing Drivers for my ATI VGA and then uninstaled them (in order to install the edgers drivers). soon after the reboot i found out my key board n mouse is not recognized in GUI.

That means that you do have keyboard in that mode & there are no seriously misconfigured packages. It's the 'netroot' menu selection & don't use 'sudo' in that mode as you are in a root shell. And while there, ensure that you have established a connection (ping [URL]), and then:
# ping ubuntu.com
[if this works, then proceed with the rest]
# apt-get update
# apt-get upgrade
# apt-get install -f

I've just installed Zentyal (formally eBox) which is a firewall built on Ubuntu server 10.04. Unfortunately my PCI modem is not automatically detected upon installation and the Zentyal community forum is not very active. Is it possible to get the 4-port Solos Multiport PCI ADSL2+ Modem card from Traverse Technologies working under Zentyal?Apparently the driver is included in kernel versions 2.6.29 and later so I was surprised that it was not automatically detected and working upon installation. It is also available from Zentyal was able to detect their single port card, the Vicking PCIADSL2+ttp://www.traverse.com.au/productvi...product_id=115). This card worked out-the-box - all I had to do was enter my static IP details! Is there any way to achieve the same functionality with the Solos 4 port?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using Broadcam Wi-Fi cards for years and always have problems getting them to work well with Linux. Not too long ago ( 6 months) I replaced my broadcom card with an Intel Pro/Wireless 4965 card. Wi-fi is 1000% better now. Connects very well and well connect to systems that I could not ever see before. So I said get an Intel card and toss your Broadcom card away and start demanding that your next computer have an Intel card as these cards have native support in the Linux kernel.

I just installed Fedora 12 on my HP a430n PC.I used to run Fedora 10, then moved to Linux Mint 7, then to Ubuntu 9.10 and now I am back to Fedora because I want to become more adept with manual package installation and adding repos. When I ran Fedora 12 immediately after then install, before running yum update PackageKit or the software update, it would use my wireless adapter (Netgear WG111v2) and connect to and stay connected to a network just fine. No hiccups. After running the updates and restarting the computer, the wlan won't stay connected for longer than 20 seconds, which is frustrating when trying to install mp3 codecs.
This seems to be a bug in the latest driver update for the WG111v2, but I might be wrong. Anyone have a fix or a way to revert back to the initial driver (I don't know what the original wireless driver was called).
For my broadband Internet I have several computers connected by cable to a Netgear DG834Gv5 router which has its own firewall.I have the wireless turned off by choice. My desktop and laptop are Linux only. (Ubuntu lucid lynx) I use the same username and password (very strong password) on both. What I want to know is can I set things up so I can browse and copy files between the computers using say nautilus on either computer?if not nautilus then I would happy to be able to do the same via a terminal window.I am not necessarily wanting to be told how but either what to Google for or where to find it.

I'm not a new user to ubuntu but I'm stuck with a driver issue on a wireless adapter upgrade for ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx. I'm running an acer aspire am1201-e1622a with amd athlon x2 64 bit processor, however i'm only running the 32 bit version of lucid lynx. The following are a few outputs of some commands that might assist in finding the proper driver. Before though i will tell you what i have done.
I have installed a few different drivers from windows wireless driver installer such as the xp and vista 32 and 64 bit versions with no success in the computer actually recognizing that i have a wireless adapter installed. The windows wireless driver installer said that hardware was present but i was unable to scan for networks or even see that i had a choice to do that. This meaning that it didn't show i had wireless capabilities in my network manager. i tested this with gnome network manager which is the default manager for 10.04 and also with wicd with no success.
Following these tests i attempted to install a driver from source following the instructions on another forum. This allowed me to manually turn on the wireless adapter but i was still unable to find any networks. This meaning that wicd was able to see that i had a wireless adapter installed but it for some reason was unable to see any wireless networks around. I'm 100% sure my router is in range and that it is configured correctly. I have 5 other computers connect to this router along with some of them being ubuntu.

I can get a dual band cisco ae1000 to work with fedora 15, but the same steps taken on opensuse don't work. Has anyone managed to get this card working on opensuse 11.4 x64? If so, I've tried compiling a driver and using the repo for an rt3572sta. neither worked. The way i hacked the program (following a fedora forum) worked in fedora but not opensuse. I've tried blacklisting cards and making sure the module loads on boot.

I have FC4 installed on my system and my internet connection is a ADSL through a Router but i have a wireless isdn line as backup connection the modem i use is LG LSP 340E which is a limited mobility cdma phone with in built modem, the supplier and manufacturer has given drivers for windows only. View 2 Replies View RelatedThe problem is I have a wireless Belkin router which I can connect to, but after being connected for a few minutes the net disappears (cuts from the router) and my laptop will have to reconnect again to the router for internet to work again. After a few minutes (or seconds in some cases) the connectivity loss will happen again over an over.
How to fix this problem or some things I can try, I've tried updating to two different firmwares, two different channels and resetting the router. The biggest problem I find is that this happens on both my laptop, another laptop in the house and also my tablet PC but doesn't happen on two other laptops in the house, I've also tested with windows 7 and Ubuntu with my laptop.

I'm running Slakware 13 (kernel 2.6.29.6) on a inspiron 1525. I use ndiswarper to use the BCM4312 wireless device without any problem but the fact that the driver does not support the Monitor mode. I therefore bought a NetGear WN111 v2 usb stick but I can't get the linux driver.
Even ndiswarper does not work but it's may be because I don't have the right .sys .ins files. (just to try)
So, I wonder if someone has already successfully manged this device working on Slackware 13?
Actually, I don't know if we can make lets say wlan0 and wlan1 working at the same time. I've try many drivers mentioned on Ubuntu forums but none of theme work with me.
Many people talk about wpa_supplicant but I don't know if I really need it to make my wn111v2 working. And what is a firmware?

I am using NDISWRAPPER and a Netgear WNDA3100 driver (I think this is Atheros-based) to connect through a Netgear WN111 USB Wireless dongle to my existing wireless network. I am running 9.04 on a Fujitstu-Siemens laptop.
I am aware that the WNDA 3100 driver is not the intended driver for my WN111 dongle, but it is the only driver that showed "hardware present" when loaded. All others (I tried perhaps 5 or 6) showed driver installed but no info about hardware.
When I try to connect to the network it tries for a while, occasionally prompting me for the passphrase, and then eventually stops.
I would like some help figuring out what else I need to do. I feel I am nearly at the solution. My guesses are as follows (for what they're worth):
1. Could it be something to do with the WPA security?
2. Could it be something to do with this, output from dmesg?

3. Could I need to set some further parameters in the network manager?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a WNR3500L wireless router and it works great with Windows. However, when I boot up Ubuntu 11.04, it cannot find other wireless networks in the area. Despite this, my internet connection speed to my computer remains unaffected...the only issue is that it cannot pick up other networks.
From searching on Google and on these forums, I've learned that most routers don't work "out of the box" with Ubuntu...NDISWrapper and additional drivers must be installed in order to make them work to their full potential. But alas, I am a super-newb...I don't know what to do from here on to get my Netgear WNR3500L router to pick up other wireless signals.
