I've gone through the trouble-shooting procedure discussed in the "lwfinger" stickies. My results are shown below. Output of all test steps looks fine until I run "ifconfig" - no valid IP address is reported. My access point works fine with other devices (including an existing 11.1 install). My detailed trouble-shooting output is shown below.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING SUMMARY
- wpa_supplicant software is installed
- network controller data are identified by "lspci" commands (no switch, -v, -n), including:

I've been having problems with connecting to my router with my wireless card. Sometimes knetworkmanager attempts to the connect to my wireless via it's saved profile but it just stays on "Activating" for about 45 seconds then just stops. This only started happening a few days ago, so maybe the new kernel update has something to do with it?
I've tried to debugging the problem myself and have found if I reboot my router knetworkmanager can connect immediately to the wireless router, but also something interesting I found was is I assigned a IP Address and DNS manually on the saved profile it would connect with no problem (No reboot of router required), so it is indicating there is a problem with getting network settings. I've confirmed that the wireless card is not hard or soft blocked through rfkill.
I was using the box standard ath5k driver when this problem started happening and even went as far as a complete reinstall but ironically enough on first boot from a fresh install my wireless could not connect with the problem described above. I've since moved to the compat-wireless drivers but the problem remains.
I checked a couple of logs, one log file of significance was the wpa_suppliment log which was full of these messages: From all my debugging I can only assume that the kernel update is a possible cause for all of this as the problem occurring on first boot of a fresh install sounds like a general bug. I've got all of the requested information about my wireless card below, hope I've got everything:

I think I need wireless App. Its really frustrated to get wireless to work. I always a window user since window 3.1 came out. I am trying to learn new OS, but only to get stuck on getting my wireless to connect. Maybe I am not cutting out to be linux user?
View 3 Replies View RelatedTO the sticky: My wireless doesn't work - a primer on what I should do next Section 2 b) I guess it would be easier for the user if she/he would just use one command instead of /sbin/lspci and than /sbin/lspci -n and compare both outputs to find the right section that inhales the hexadecimal numeric IDs for the wireless LAN/wireless/WLAN/bluetooth/..What do you (all and especially the sticky's author, dear Larry Finger) think of alternatives like:
Code:
/sbin/lspci -nn

Sorry for repeating the same old complaint but there doesn't seem to be a common fix: Wireless does not work on my Presario R3000 although SUSE 11.x lists the hardware in the Hardware Information list and the hardware is turned on. Network Manager doesn't display any wireless networks in SUSE while Win 7 can see 4 of them on the same machine. Ubuntu has no problem either

I've just upgraded from openSUSE 11.2 to 11.3. In 11.2 everything worked fine: I've booted my laptop, logged in and turn my wireless card on using the hardware wireless button, the KDE Wallet opened up, I inserted the password and voil, wireless connection was on.But after upgrading from 11.3, it doesn't work like that anymore. I need to have the hardware wireless button pressed to on during boot, otherwise Network Manager will not work. And yes, I do check the "Enabled wireless" option, but it doesn't work. When I tried to check it out, I found out that the wireless "Scan" button that scans and displays the available wireless connections shows nothing. So, if I forget to put the wireless on for boot, I must restart and put it on. I've tried log off and log on, and restarting some network services, but neither worked.I have an Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG, as showed below, and I'm posting this message using it.

Some info below:
- notebook Fuijtsu Siemens AMILO Pro2065 - 4 gb ram - 80 gb hd - wireless on board Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG
- wireless works properly with Ubuntu (with WEP key)
I'm just installed OpenSuse 11.2 and:
- wireless found my AP
- i've just inserted WEP key / 64 bit Hex-Ascii and..not working!
Suse on an (old even) laptop is even more fun that it is on a desktop. BUT, I still cant get my wireless to work! I have the Encore ENUWI-N3 USB adaptor. Suse sucessfully detects my USB device, recognize its a Wireless lan network adapter, installs it as such (gives it its driver) and adds my wireless menu under network manager. (it gives it the rt2x00) I can enable / disable the USB device from there (its light corroborates that.
So all in all, suse installs my wireless. But I CANNOT find any AP when I scan. Under the "scan" tool (under connec to wireless > A wireless network ect ect) I find no APs. Adding the SSID of the AP manually is of no help either. And the command sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan merely gives - "wlan1 Scan completed" and nothing else. Check ifconfig - not a frame sent/received.
I just installed openSUSE dual-boot with windows. Wireless works fine on windows. Only ethernet works on openSUSE. At first, it couldn't even find my wireless network. With my friend's help we experimented and tried everything to find the driver for my broadcam4312 driver.
Later, my friend some update from the official openSUSE peeps... Then, the wireless could my network. I entered in my password and then hoped for the best but then it got stuck on the Obtaining IP Adress part. I know I got the rite password.
I just can't get my wireless to work so I can get started with learning Linux. Here is a bit info about my setup, I have tried it both ifup and Network Manager version 0.8.2-15.20

When I attempt to connect to a wireless network, the network manager asks me for the network's password, then says 'setting network address' for 20 or so seconds, then asks me for some random Hex or ASCII key in the same type of window I put the password in (Secrets for Noel -- KDE Daemon). Since a key is already typed into the window, I press OK, which then causes the network manager to go back to 'setting network address', then the window pops up again and keeps repeating itself.
I'm running Opensuse 11.4 with KDE, and my driver is ath9k. I don't know much about linux so please don't tell me to 'recompile this' or 'change this setting' without explaining how to do it. Please help, I've been unable to connect to wireless in OpenSUSE for 2 weeks now.
