Currently, his mail is coming in on 2 addresses. He'd like to take the mails from one source and add it to the other.
The idea is to fetch the mails from the least used address - on the provider's POP server - and forward it to the other address. He can use the SMTP server from the same provider to send off the forwarded mails.
This operation would be cron'ed to run every few minutes.
I have a Fedora 10 machine that I want to setup to send email. However I don't want it to be a full blown SMTP setup.What I am looking to achieve is when something sends email from the local machine (e.g. from cron) to an address I want it to use an MTA on the local machine which will then connect to, and authenticate with, my e-mail providers SMTP server this will then take care of actually sending the e-mail.I don't want, or need, to setup a full blown SMTP service (i.e. only the local machine should be able to use it) so sendmail seems a bit over the top for my needs. Nor do I want to mess about with MX records (am I right in thinking this will mean I have to manage all mail for my domain?).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an opensuse server which handles 5-8 sites, a mail server and a nameserver.I will move it to a new location and I'll have a different IP. Now, I didn't configure the server myself, so I don't know what to do so that the mail server, the sites and the nameserver to work in the new location with a new IP.
Does it suffice to change the IP of the nameserver from my domain registrar? What any other modification I'll have to do in order for the mail and sites to work at the new location?I searched tutorials on moving a server to a new location but I didn't find any...
Today I have tested the networks at several schools in the area,and at the town hall. It is not possible to surf on www on any of these networks using a PC running Linux. My conclusion is that there has to be some kind of filtering of traffic that exclude PC's running Linux. From the same PC I can send and receive email, I can ping and trace (mtr) addresses on www, and I can view webpages that are on servers on the inside of the filtering-gateway. The filter used is InterScan Web Security Virtual Appliance from TrendMicro
I have also demonstrated for the admins at the town hall that using Linux-PC on a "clean" network, surfing is no problem. By doing these small tests I have demonstrated that Linux is not the problem.

I have OpenSuse 11.2 installed and I'm currently testing out Magento Commerce which is working as expected. In order to create fake customers the application requires a unique e-mail address for each customer. I currently use postfix and have all the e-mails being sent to my providers domain which i only have 2 email user accounts. How do i set up virtual e-mail addresses like joeblog@fakedomain.com and maryblog@fakedomain.com such that when the Magento Application sends emails to these addresses I would like to access the corresponding mail boxes on the same host. (i.e. the machine i run Magento on)

I have a form on this site here:- Dynamic Systems Group The script itself works and I have tested it on another hosted server and it works fine. However on my server the email the script sends never arrives, which must be a problem with my Postfix settings I guess. However I also have two pages on my site for testing sending of mail, which BOTH report a postive result:-

However even though these pages report successful send the mail stil never arrives. I have looked at many pages and forums on the internet and I am really, really confused as to how to set up Postfix. On the Suse box I have the Mail Server configured in Yast to send mail via my Gmail.com account using TLS and authentication but still no success!
How do I configure my modem without setting a service provider? When I try to configure my modem I can't get past the page for setting my internet provider. I have DSL and only use a modem for faxing. I'm running SUSE 11.3 32bit with KDE 4.5.2 and the modem is a BCM4212.

I just set up a new router for our home office. I've enabled traffic logging, and I'd like to have the logs emailed to me. However, in order to configure email-notification, the router needs and outgoing mail server. Forgive me, but I don't really understand the terminology being used here. I've googled this a bit, but I'm not sure I now what "outgoing" vs "incoming" mean in the context. I tried using my gmail account as the outgoing mail server (smpt.gmail.com) but it requires TTLS encryption, and there's no option for that on my router.
So I figured I'd setup a simple mail server on my local network. I have a dedicated server machine, so I'd just configure a mail server there. But I got stumped at the first input box (in the yast module):"Outgoing Mail Server".That's what I wanted to use this server for. What is this "outgoing mail server"? I understand it in a normal emai context (I think) but this is confusing me. I've read through the HowTo on the openSUSE wiki, but it still doesn't answer this question.Isn't there some way to have a simple, local mail server (without MX records and the like) so I can send email from a local machine?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was asked to install a mail server for the company I work for 'cause the mail fowarding service is getting pretty expensive. As an openSUSE user I decided to use my beloved distro for that task rather than a Windows 2003 Server. I want to avoid using MS Windows OS and use openSUSE so I can introduce this "new" technology to the company. I have the evil () plan to progressively migrate from MS Windows to Linux and this is an excelent opportunity for showing what is Linux capable of. Unfortunately I'm a rooky Linux admin and I could not get any satisfactory results yet. For testing purposes I managed to point an MX record to an static ip address (200.69.219.57) using No-Ip service. I've tested it using dig unitan.sytes.net MX command.
Then I installed openSUSE using 3 hdd, 1 for system files and directories and 2 setting up a RAID 1 array mounted under /var directory because I've read that there is where the e-mails will be stored. I've followed a couple of documents presented in these forums to no avail. I did install the system using LDAP but I could not get/install/create any certificate so users could not authenticate (Dovecot said so)
I think that i lost my memory, because i completely forgot how to accomplish this.

I have the domain DNS pointing to the ISP name servers, but I don't remember if this is the correct way, or if I have to setup my own DNS server.
I'd like to use the mail command to send e-mails with some log files. Is there a way to configure the SMTP server from cli or to write the IP address into a file?

It connects as "low level connection" , the indicator of kvpnc remains red, but then kvpnc would not pass the network traffic through umts-mon (or better vice versa, umtsmon doesn't). In principle I would like to pass both interfaces (wireless, umts) through vpn.

I cannot send emails out with the built in email server on Suse and don't even know if it is enabled. I used to do it with my IIS/ColdFusion server but there were options for the outbound SMTP server and authentication. It is attached to a modem/router. I have a static IP address for my registered domain. The server has a static IP address (192.168.1.8 in this case). My server is NOT running either a DHCP server nor a DNS server - there is no need, since there is nothing else on this box. It has only one network connection - eth0.
I'm trying to set up an e-mail server. I have been unable to get an 'advanced' implementation to work because all attempts to create a suitable server certificate fail. So for now I'll stick with a 'standard' set up.I don't know what I should put in such fields as 'outgoing mail server' (I've assumed I should use the FQDN of my server);I've no idea what 'masquerading' is for or what I should do with it;I don't know what I'm supposed to put in the 'outgoing mail server' in the 'authentication' section;I don't know what to put in the 'downloading' section;and I don't know what 'accept remote SMTP connections' does.I can get the server to start, but any attempt to retrieve e-mail from it ends in an authorisation failure - the syslog shows a sign-on attempt from my 'real' IP address and some form of numeric userid which cannot be found.So, if anyone can tell me what to put in YAST to make it work, I'd be a very happy chap.
Yes, I can telnet to 'my.server.my.domain' 25, so something must be right. But my Linux knowledge is not enough to get it working properly.
On my opensuse 11.4 box (although I assume the version is irrelevant), I'm trying to figure out how to do something with the mail command. We have multiple smtp relay servers and sometimes I have to test to verify that mail is bouncing off of them successfully. On my laptop, in my main.cf file for postfix, I've got the relay server listed. But to test multiple servers, I have to change the main.cf, restart postfix, send message, and then repeat for each test.
I'm trying to figure out a way to specify the smtp relay on the command line. I've been playing with the -S option which is supposed to allow variables and one of the variables in the man page is 'smtp'. I've tried several different syntaxes but nothing seems to work.
The closest I've come is:
mail -S smtp 10.1.0.63 -s "test" user@email.com < main.cf
That syntax doesn't give me an error but it still routes the message off the smtp server listed in main.cf which is not 10.1.0.63.
I want postfix to send me the root mail to an external account, but I never do it and I don't know how to do it, anyone can explain me how to do it?

All programs used are the latest versions shipped with OpenSUSE 11.4 I have set-up successfully sendmail+cyrus and I can send e-mail anywhere without a problem using authentication. But when I try to integrate amavisd-milter mail delivery hangs at 63% and the following message appears in /var/log/mail

I have been trying to figure out how to keep my company's email from being treated as junk mail by Hotmail, Yahoo & Gmail for over a year.
When I acquired the company its email was hosted by sina.com as its in China. It was being run under a windows server and had issues sending & receiving.
I moved it to a linux server system in Hong Kong that has a US co-host site in Chicago area thinking its got to better than whats running in China.

Basically, for starting, i want postfix to send incoming emails to a php script or perl. for outgoing emails i guess that i could use php mail function and i will see what else to have. I configured the dns. I do a dig.mydomain.tld MX and i get the following:

So now my system is receiving MX content but i dont know what to do.
I have this 7.10 Ubuntu server that I'm trying to move inside a VM on my ESXi server. I use the VMware Conversion tool and everythings goes well until I try to boot it from inside the VM, the network isn't detected. Now I understand that the drivers may not be working, I'm not an expert here. Also, since this is a 7.10 install I don't have access to the Gutsy repositories anymore.
