View 6 RepliesAsterisk and its cousin technologies intrigue as well as confuse me. I'm wondering: Is it possible to set up an Asterisk (or other) server on a home computer with no special hardware and use it to route calls between mobile devices in remote locations? I'm hoping this could work similarly to Skype Mobile, Google Voice, etc., except on a WAY smaller scale. This is just something I'd use personally for calls to family and friends--nothing huge.
Since my computer is just a regular laptop with no 3G connectivity, I don't expect to use 3G for calls. I just think it would be cool, for instance, to go to a caf with WiFi and use a SIP/VoIP client on my Android phone to call up a friend who also has a phone or PC with a SIP/VoIP client on it. I realize I could do the same thing far more easily with an account at Skype or some other provider. My interest in attempting this project is more for the learning experience than practical use.
If indeed this is possible to do with the hardware I already own, any tips for starting out? My computer is a MacBook Pro 5,5 (dual-booting Sabayon Linux and Mac OS X). I know I could install Asterisk from within Sabayon, install a specialized telephony distro to a new partition, or run a virtual Asterisk machine--but I'm not sure which option, if any, would be most appropriate here. I'm also not sure if Asterisk would accomplish what I want, or if I should look at other software.
I would like to be able to have email sent directly to my computer at home (i.e. run some kind of mail server on it) instead of having to rely on Gmail, Yahoo or someone else. From what I've read it should be possible, but most of the guides out there seem to be oriented to enterprise-class setups, or at the very least a small business, and I think that a lot of that would be overkill for just getting my personal mail. The minimum *I think* is
- register a domain name, with the DNS pointing to my public IP (which is dynamic, so one question I have is whether I would have to use DynDNS or is DNS at any registrar going to be flexible enough to modify if/when my IP changes?)- something about MX records (I'm really unsure here, what exactly are these and where do I set them up? I don't think a free DynDNS account lets one handle this, does someone know which of their account types supports setting this up?)
- Install sendmail and postfix (which seems like a PITA, but much documentation appears to be available)
- Profit?
I would like to create a customized CentOS server, or it will serve me as a server (postfis) postfixadmin, Hylafax, webmail (Roundcube for example) and may be I would integrate suger crm.
If I create it all this server and it runs perfectly. my goal is I create a compilation or for example I install this distrubution and wonder just some configuration (eg IP address or the time just) knowing that by the end of the installation I find hylafax, postfix , and all AC roundecube install it remains for me to set them up! Taking the example of Elastix cd: www.elastix.org/ or it can make all AC (but its main role is the PABX).
I want some advice for making my system more secure. I want deactivate any network connection that is unnecessary. Only my browser and the update ability of zypper should have access to the internet. On windows there are personal firewalls.
How can I block internetaccess for all other programmes on openSUSE?
I have openSUSE 11.2 installed and i need to create a gateway server that allows virtual private network connections. I want to play with my friends some lan games, but we are in different networks, so i want to create this gateway server so we can connect with VPN clients to this server and play freely.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just set up a new router for our home office. I've enabled traffic logging, and I'd like to have the logs emailed to me. However, in order to configure email-notification, the router needs and outgoing mail server. Forgive me, but I don't really understand the terminology being used here. I've googled this a bit, but I'm not sure I now what "outgoing" vs "incoming" mean in the context. I tried using my gmail account as the outgoing mail server (smpt.gmail.com) but it requires TTLS encryption, and there's no option for that on my router.
So I figured I'd setup a simple mail server on my local network. I have a dedicated server machine, so I'd just configure a mail server there. But I got stumped at the first input box (in the yast module):"Outgoing Mail Server".That's what I wanted to use this server for. What is this "outgoing mail server"? I understand it in a normal emai context (I think) but this is confusing me. I've read through the HowTo on the openSUSE wiki, but it still doesn't answer this question.Isn't there some way to have a simple, local mail server (without MX records and the like) so I can send email from a local machine?
I was asked to install a mail server for the company I work for 'cause the mail fowarding service is getting pretty expensive. As an openSUSE user I decided to use my beloved distro for that task rather than a Windows 2003 Server. I want to avoid using MS Windows OS and use openSUSE so I can introduce this "new" technology to the company. I have the evil () plan to progressively migrate from MS Windows to Linux and this is an excelent opportunity for showing what is Linux capable of. Unfortunately I'm a rooky Linux admin and I could not get any satisfactory results yet. For testing purposes I managed to point an MX record to an static ip address (200.69.219.57) using No-Ip service. I've tested it using dig unitan.sytes.net MX command.
Then I installed openSUSE using 3 hdd, 1 for system files and directories and 2 setting up a RAID 1 array mounted under /var directory because I've read that there is where the e-mails will be stored. I've followed a couple of documents presented in these forums to no avail. I did install the system using LDAP but I could not get/install/create any certificate so users could not authenticate (Dovecot said so)
I think that i lost my memory, because i completely forgot how to accomplish this.
I have a WEB/MAIL server configured to work on a static IP address, lets say 200.11.22.33.
Now I wanna point a domain to that server to get the services up and running, lets say mydom.com ...
The static IP Address is assigned by my Internet Provider.
I'm lost in the part of connecting the domain with the server.
I have the domain DNS pointing to the ISP name servers, but I don't remember if this is the correct way, or if I have to setup my own DNS server.
I have a LAMP server and need a web page to send email messages. I could do it with my Win 2k server through my cable service but can't seem to get it to work here.
View 9 Replies View Relatedsetting up my LAMP server to send email messages through my cable network SMTP server. If you respond please realize that I am new to linux/apache. I cannot send emails out with the built in email server on Suse and don't even know if it is enabled. I used to do it with my IIS/ColdFusion server but there were options for the outbound SMTP server and authentication. I have searched and think I have to use something called Pear but to be honest the instructions are vague to say the least and it all looks greek to me.
View 2 Replies View RelatedProbably because I don't know what to put in some of the fields. So; all I want to do is to run my own e-mail server for my business. The network is set up, the web server is running, but I'm having no end of trouble with YAST and the e-mail server.I have a single server running open suse 11.3 32 bit. It is attached to a modem/router. I have a static IP address for my registered domain. The server has a static IP address (192.168.1.8 in this case). My server is NOT running either a DHCP server nor a DNS server - there is no need, since there is nothing else on this box. It has only one network connection - eth0.
I'm trying to set up an e-mail server. I have been unable to get an 'advanced' implementation to work because all attempts to create a suitable server certificate fail. So for now I'll stick with a 'standard' set up.I don't know what I should put in such fields as 'outgoing mail server' (I've assumed I should use the FQDN of my server);I've no idea what 'masquerading' is for or what I should do with it;I don't know what I'm supposed to put in the 'outgoing mail server' in the 'authentication' section;I don't know what to put in the 'downloading' section;and I don't know what 'accept remote SMTP connections' does.I can get the server to start, but any attempt to retrieve e-mail from it ends in an authorisation failure - the syslog shows a sign-on attempt from my 'real' IP address and some form of numeric userid which cannot be found. So, if anyone can tell me what to put in YAST to make it work, I'd be a very happy chap.
Yes, I can telnet to 'my.server.my.domain' 25, so something must be right. But my Linux knowledge is not enough to get it working properly.
We have a ldap server which has been running for a couple years now, and I was told to make a fallback / backup ldap server. So should the old one fail we won't be officially screwed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a server with a domain running and im trying to resolve the mail server but i can't see where to start. I use OpenSuse 11.2. Basically, for starting, i want postfix to send incoming emails to a php script or perl. for outgoing emails i guess that i could use php mail function and i will see what else to have. I configured the dns. I do a dig.mydomain.tld MX and i get the following:
mydomain.tld3600INMX0 mail.mydomain.tld
mail.mydomain.tld 3600INAmyNumericalIp
So now my system is receiving MX content but i dont know what to do.

I've come across certain documentation that says it requires to configure saslauthd. Is there any way i can create a mail server to which users can connect and download their mails. Shall i switch to postfix and dovecot instead? Is that easier?

My computer gets internet through wireless and I want to share that internet through its ethernet port. So far I've tried using Knetworkmanager to create a network bridge between my wireless and wired connections. I created a new wired connection and shared it using the ip address settings. I was able to get both connections active, but the device hooked up via ethernet had no internet connectivity.
I also tried this command:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
but another test resulted in the same fashion (no internet on wired). I believe anything I add to /proc should have an immediate effect, correct?
I have configured sendmail server configuration & its working but I was not able to send mail to other network e.g., yahoo mail, etc.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThrough yast2 I went to network services-->Mail server and took the standard option. My connection type is Permanent, filled in the outgoing server information and got to the incoming mail screen.
I told it to accept remote SMTP connections, open a port in the firewall and bypassed the downloading section since I just want to directly receive mail (I did however tell it I wanted a daemon to fetchmail). Told it to forward root's mail to me and a delivery mod of Directly. And finished.
The system sends mail out but I can't seem to receive any. What did I do wrong or what else do I need to do?
I will be staying somewhere that uses WPA encryption for their wireless network. It's a hidden wireless network with the security type being WPA-Personal the encryption type being TKIP.The connection works while in Windows7but not in F12.I edited the /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.confthe default information already provided for WPA connections. Then, as su, I ran:
Code:
wpa_supplicant -B -Dwext -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
And the output was:

I am being asked to stand up a dedicated mail and web server in a network that runs Active Directory 2008 domain. All users are running Windows XP and or Windows 7. I have stood up two dedicated Linux servers (64-bit) for the requested tasks and everything is working perfect except for the fact that users now have three individual passwords:
1. Windows domain login credentials
2. Postfix / Dovecot (email) credentials are the Linux shell login (set to /bin/false)
3. Apache / Intranet access is used from a '.htpasswd' file
Does anyone recommend a way that I could somehow synchronize the users mail & web credentials with their Windows / Kerberos credentials.
Currently, his mail is coming in on 2 addresses. He'd like to take the mails from one source and add it to the other.
The idea is to fetch the mails from the least used address - on the provider's POP server - and forward it to the other address. He can use the SMTP server from the same provider to send off the forwarded mails.
This operation would be cron'ed to run every few minutes.
I have OpenSuse 11.2 installed and I'm currently testing out Magento Commerce which is working as expected. In order to create fake customers the application requires a unique e-mail address for each customer. I currently use postfix and have all the e-mails being sent to my providers domain which i only have 2 email user accounts. How do i set up virtual e-mail addresses like joeblog@fakedomain.com and maryblog@fakedomain.com such that when the Magento Application sends emails to these addresses I would like to access the corresponding mail boxes on the same host. (i.e. the machine i run Magento on)

However I also have two pages on my site for testing sending of mail, which BOTH report a postive result:-

However even though these pages report successful send the mail stil never arrives. I have looked at many pages and forums on the internet and I am really, really confused as to how to set up Postfix. On the Suse box I have the Mail Server configured in Yast to send mail via my Gmail.com account using TLS and authentication but still no success!
