My problem is that the each created user should be able to change their password.
- Is there a way, using NCSA authentication, to allow users to change their passwords?
- Is there a way to use windows AD password for squid authentication. if so how?
I have currently have opensuse 11.2 installed. I am trying to setup samba shares which you can only access as certain user. Currently looks like the only way I can access these share is use root username/password!
I want to which GUI I need to use to setup this up properly. And of course what setting to exactly to use.
Im trying to config my intranet to be accessible from inside the network (lan) without need of password and ask for a passwd for those who are viewing from Wan ....

The question is related to one single desktop machine, with 3 users.
1) the superuser (me)
2) My elder son
3) My younger son.
As superuser, I can access the network (internet router) via "Wicd" perfectly well.
Both Client users can't.
Do I have to give them special user priviledges? If yes, which ones?
I have several local users on a F11 box. I want to keep one of those users from getting to the network. I could upgrade this machine to F12, if it offers a better solution.

That would prevent trojans to download your HD for examples. I looked around and played with iptables but I couldn't not find anything that do the job. I loaded the xt_owner kernel for iptables but the --cmd-owner command is lacking. That was my holy grail but could not get --cmd-owner to work. iptables -I OUTPUT -m owner --cmd-owner "firefox" -j LOG --log-prefix "Testing " How can I protect my machine against the enemy within.

I have been able to use the mail program on my old Ubuntu instasll which I found quite handy. However, it isn't functioning "out of the box" like I expected. I've tried to configure it as mail was in Ubuntu to no avail.

I have a bunch of debian servers - most of them running exim4 default installations configured as internet site using dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config. It can send mails fine from php scripts and some other applications, but I can't seem to find a way to forward all root mail to some external address. I have tried adding "root: someaddress@example.com" to /etc/aliases and run newaliases command, but it doesn't seem to work.

However I don't want it to be a full blown SMTP setup.What I am looking to achieve is when something sends email from the local machine (e.g. from cron) to an address I want it to use an MTA on the local machine which will then connect to, and authenticate with, my e-mail providers SMTP server this will then take care of actually sending the e-mail.I don't want, or need, to setup a full blown SMTP service (i.e. only the local machine should be able to use it) so sendmail seems a bit over the top for my needs. Nor do I want to mess about with MX records (am I right in thinking this will mean I have to manage all mail for my domain?).

I have Nagios setup correctly and introduced an error to generate an Email but nothing has come through.I suppose I have two questions:
1. Is mail.rc setup correctly?
2. Can I test to see if mail.rc is working correctly?
I have Mandrake 7.1 installed on a laptop and I have several problems that an upgrade would likely fix or provide a path that will support a fix. The Mousepad is irratic and the PCMCIA WiFi and Ethernet cards are not recognized. What's a good way to upgrade? (I can access the network from an external modem and from a dual-boot Windows 98 WiFi)

I installed 11.3amd64 as a VM under Vista/VMWare Player - all worked fine. I have now installed it as a physical system. It nstalled cleanly BUT during first boot it could not access the repos. With each repo it gave the message
- download (curl) error for (repo)
- error code connection failed
- error message could not resolve host (repo)
This was followed by a message box containing
- UI syntax error
- no widget with ID 'contents
Firefox could not access the internet (cannot find server) until I disabled IPV6 (I used about:config), now it works fine. I think the repos problem is because of IPV6 - I usually have trouble with IPV6. I tried disabling IPV6 with the following (How To Disable ipv6 on SuSE Linux | Linux Poison)

I have recently zypper dupped to opensuse 11.4 from 11.3. My only problem is I am unable to access my address book when I click <select> when sending a new message; only recent addresses show in the window that pops up. Even if I select <all> in the list of choices, only <recent addresses> show up. In the useful tips that appear upon opening K-mail it states that if I click on < folders> then < Mailing list management> I will be able to select and manage all of my address books. But when I click on <folders> the <mailing list management> is faded telling me that it is not enabled. My question is what must I do to enable the mailing list management to be enabled? I have enabled mailman with no help.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter running Pine remotely to view some mail on the server, I can no longer access those emails remotely with Evolution or Outlook Express. I know the mail is still there on the server someplace, because it still appears in Pine's "INBOX" folder. But that is clearly not the same as the "Inbox" folder for that account which appears in Evolution and Outlook Express, which is now empty. How can I configure Evolution to re-access those emails?

I configured it using the Window Domain Membership YaST2 module and I can login successfully (although unreliably). The problem is that I need the UID and GID of the users on my computer to match the UID and GID assigned by Active Directory. Currently it just assigns UIDs and GIDs starting at 10000, which is completely different than the UID and GID used by Active Directory and by other Linux computer runs by the school (those use CentOS). Does anyone know how to get my openSUSE computer to assign UIDs and GIDs from Active Directory?

Currently, his mail is coming in on 2 addresses. He'd like to take the mails from one source and add it to the other.
The idea is to fetch the mails from the least used address - on the provider's POP server - and forward it to the other address. He can use the SMTP server from the same provider to send off the forwarded mails.
This operation would be cron'ed to run every few minutes.
I have OpenSuse 11.2 installed and I'm currently testing out Magento Commerce which is working as expected. In order to create fake customers the application requires a unique e-mail address for each customer. I currently use postfix and have all the e-mails being sent to my providers domain which i only have 2 email user accounts. How do i set up virtual e-mail addresses like joeblog@fakedomain.com and maryblog@fakedomain.com such that when the Magento Application sends emails to these addresses I would like to access the corresponding mail boxes on the same host. (i.e. the machine i run Magento on)

I have a form on this site here:- Dynamic Systems Group The script itself works and I have tested it on another hosted server and it works fine. However on my server the email the script sends never arrives, which must be a problem with my Postfix settings I guess. However I also have two pages on my site for testing sending of mail, which BOTH report a postive result:-

I have looked at many pages and forums on the internet and I am really, really confused as to how to set up Postfix. On the Suse box I have the Mail Server configured in Yast to send mail via my Gmail.com account using TLS and authentication but still no success!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop computer running OpenSUSE 11.2 with two network cards installed. I would like to use both cards for connecting to the internet using different networks. The setting would be the following: eth0 is the main (default) card, almost all programs should use this NIC for connecting to the internet. eth1 is used only by a few programs, which have setting for selecting which network interface to use. The two NIC's are connected to different networks, so the IP address of the NIC's, the related subnet masks and gateways are also different.
Saying short, I would like to have the two NIC's as they would be in two separate computers. I can set the IP address and subnet mask of the NIC's. The main problem is that I can only declare one gateway. How can i setup this? I do not use network manager, I configure network cards using yast, but if needed I can of course use ifconfig directly.
I'm having a strange problem with my network connection/DNS. I turn computer the on and it recognizes and connects to wireless or wired but I can't access any Internet resources or my router. If I ping the default gateway, I get no response and I get DNS errors from any network services that run at start up. If I stop and start the network daemon then it all works fine until the next time I turn on my laptop. It does this for both wireless and wired connection.
I've tried to edit the network interface information in YaST but it says that configuration is handled by knetworkmanager and I have no idea where that information is accessed. I should point out that it all worked fine until I tried to connect to open WAP at my school and couldn't so I connected to the wired network. Next morning I had this problem when connecting to my home network. My questions are 1. What could be the cause of this error and 2. where does one configure the network interfaces when using knetworkmanager
