OpenSUSE Network :: Using Mailx To Send Mail To Gmail?
Oct 11, 2009
I have a couple of servers that are scripted to send cron script output logs to my email address (a Gmail address). Mailx is what I am using, but I didn't have to configure anything; I installed it, and it just worked with the following command: mailx -s "SUBJECT" -r FROMMYADDRESS TOMYADDRESS < FILETOCATANDSEND
This occurs every Saturday and Sunday at noon after my backup scripts run.
I noticed yesterday that I did not receive these logs, so I logged into the machine, started 'mail' and saw messages like this: This is the mail system at host media.deagle.lan.
Was told that I need to use Javamail for a project to send mail rather than using "mail" or "mailx". Has anyone here done this?Any pointers or sites you've used and can recommend?
My issue is that i'm trying to send emails with postfix and gmail as the mail relay,i'm trying to send emails to my self by sendmail -bv user@gmail.com
In the logs, i can understand that it been delivered to the destination, taken from: /var/log/mail.log: Apr 30 00:05:23 moni postfix/pickup[10490]: 9C7552170C: uid=0 from=<root> Apr 30 00:05:23 moni postfix/cleanup[10495]: 9C7552170C: message-id=<20110429210523.9C7552170C@moni.localdomain> Apr 30 00:05:23 moni postfix/qmgr[10491]: 9C7552170C: from=<root@moni.localdomain>, size=283, nrcpt=1 (queue active) code....
When login in my gmail account i can't see nothing under the sent / inbox / spam folder.
it's seems like the mail are been sent.. but nothing is happening.

Can no longer configure it and it seems that I will have to start from scratch again...How to get sendmail to send emails using Gmail's SMTP server?
I have been trying to figure out how to keep my company's email from being treated as junk mail by Hotmail, Yahoo & Gmail for over a year.
When I acquired the company its email was hosted by sina.com as its in China. It was being run under a windows server and had issues sending & receiving.
I moved it to a linux server system in Hong Kong that has a US co-host site in Chicago area thinking its got to better than whats running in China.
We are still having problems sending emails to hotmail, yahoo and gmail.
My entire company is about ready to redmond our company email and use their personal webmail accounts.

I am attempting to run ssmtp from an initrd image to send an e-mail, via Gmail MTA, upon reboot of the machine. I have already successfully installed and configured ssmtp on the running box (in other words, ssmtp successfully runs after completion of the boot cycle). When attempting to mail something via `echo "Test" | ssmtp username@gmail.com`, I receive the following error message:
i'm using fedora 12 and i wanna send mail using command $mail actually i tried to send mail to my gmail , yahoo ,and hotmail emails but i didn't receive the mail so i expect that i should have some configuration on my host before sending mai
I have a server with a domain running and im trying to resolve the mail server but i can't see where to start. I use OpenSuse 11.2. Basically, for starting, i want postfix to send incoming emails to a php script or perl. for outgoing emails i guess that i could use php mail function and i will see what else to have. I configured the dns. I do a dig.mydomain.tld MX and i get the following:
I have been trying to set up ssmtp so I can send email using Gmail's ssmtp servers. However, when I try to send mail (using mailx), I get the following message:
Code:
Can't send mail: sendmail process failed
Here's the last line from dmesg (the only one applicable, according to the timestamps and message content):
Code:
[484114.608378] sendmail[17975]: segfault at 0 ip b7dbbbf3 sp bfb0dc4c error 4 in libc-2.11.2.so[b7d44000+14e000]
Here's my ssmtp.conf:
Code:
# # /etc/ssmtp.conf -- a config file for sSMTP sendmail. #
I am running a opensuse 11.4 with mailx 12.2. I am trying to sent emails via command line using mailx. I have not configured any mail server in yast. My .mailrc in my homefolder looks like this:
set smtp-use-starttls account gmx { set smtp=mail.gmx.net:465 set smtp-auth=login set smtp-auth-user=my.name@gmx.de set smtp-auth-password=mypassword set from="My name <my.name@gmx.de>" }
Unfortunately when I use the command mailx -s"Test" -A gmx my.name@gmx.de [Return] Hallo [ctrl+d] I am getting only the message Unexpected EOF on SMTP connection "/home/myname/dead.letter" 11/338 . . . message not sent.
Chrome crashes when I try to send attachments using Gmail, instead firefox works fine. Several users have the same problem, but I could't find a solution.I use openSuse 11.3, Chrome 7.0.517.44 and the lastest flash version.
I run in a script a mailx command like this:cat logfile | mailx -s'the logfile' to-me@..This works most of the time, but in some cases mailx automagically turns logfile into an attachment called 'attachment.bin'.I think this may be because 'logfile' contains a few control characters or escape codes? How can I tell mailx to be less intelligent and treat it as an ASCII text file?
I'm a complete beginner to administrating my own box - and have installed Ubuntu 9.04 (Jackalope).
I have it up and running - and have installed the applications that I needed.
However, I am unable to get mail to send within the network - I can send mail to external address, such as gmail, yahoo, etc, just not inside my work's network. This includes forwarding services such a spamgourmet - which redirects to my work's email addresses.
potential set up issues I can check for? I am currently using Postfix as my email server.
note: this is what I found in the syslog:
Dec 16 13:55:55 mica-tools postfix/smtp[4248]: 9E014E409E: to=<mica@xxxxxxx.com>, relay=globala.mxsave.com[130.94.123.150]:25, delay=34, delays=0.02/0/33/0.28, dsn=5.7.1, status=bounced (host globala.mxsave.com[130.94.123.150] said: 550 5.7.1 <mica@xxxxxxx.com>,... I have the 11.4 Gnome Distribution.everything is setup except my email sending.I have never been able to setup evolution correctly with gmail.I have followed the gmail settings of setting the smtp server to be smtp. gmail. com:465 and folowed the instructions here Evolution/FAQ - GNOME Live!to setup smtp.gmail.com with no port change.if there is no port specified the sending message window doesn't report an error it just hangs.
I ran mail (aka mailx) and opened an account foo. If I remain inside the program, the command 'account foo' prints the account data. Good. But if I exit the program, and rerun it, then the command 'account' has no output which is to say I have no account.
I have been trying to configure the mailcheck in gkrellm to check and notify for new mail on my gmail account. I have activated pop of course...
These are the pop info taken from gmail:

I do not know where the problem occurs, but when sending mail through FCI mail () on the Gmail e-mail fails to deliver. The logo is not a bug and should be on the list, center, walks etc mails totally normal, but gmail does not pass anything. Nothing in the spam ... I tried to create a new mail to Gmail and send the message, and nothing may be ...
You have no idea where it could be a potential bug? from webmail to send mail to gmail is realized, but through the mail () not ... I thought that the problem is in a blacklist from Google, but a week ago, we changed the IP server (migration) and the problem still persists ..
I'm trying to configure postfix so smart daemon can send out notifications emails. My system will need to send emails to a mail server that is on the same local network. I have not had much luck in getting this to work, and am confused on what I need to setup to do this and how to set it up. Does my system need to be apart of the same domain as the mail server? If so, how do I do this? Is there any restrictions sending emails from the command line as the root user? Do I need to configure a relayhost?
Basically all I need to do is send emails to a local mail server, i.e. a mail server on the same local network. I do not need to receive emails. I am rather clueless as to how to set this all up, and what I need for this basic email functionality. I have read and tried many postfix configuration tutorials, but when I try to send out a test email to a email address on the local network mail server I always get "Connection refused" to the server and deferred or bounced status on my test email.
I am using KMail Version 1.13.5 and until recently i am no longer able to download or send mail without having to restart the app several times, when i have logged into my webmail, i can see that there is clearly mail there, but kmail doesnt see it. i use pop3 and smtp protocols and they have worked fine until now?
