View 1 RepliesI've been trying to send mail to email account even after installing postfix but am not able to do so.My distro is Centos 5.4. I followed the Centos user guide to install and configure postfix into the server,
Code:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/postfix
but still didn't receive any email.
I have a server with a domain running and im trying to resolve the mail server but i can't see where to start. I use OpenSuse 11.2. Basically, for starting, i want postfix to send incoming emails to a php script or perl. for outgoing emails i guess that i could use php mail function and i will see what else to have. I configured the dns. I do a dig.mydomain.tld MX and i get the following:
mydomain.tld3600INMX0 mail.mydomain.tld
mail.mydomain.tld 3600INAmyNumericalIp
So now my system is receiving MX content but i dont know what to do.
The question is pretty much the same as the subject. I have a bunch of debian servers - most of them running exim4 default installations configured as internet site using dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config. It can send mails fine from php scripts and some other applications, but I can't seem to find a way to forward all root mail to some external address. I have tried adding "root: someaddress@example.com" to /etc/aliases and run newaliases command, but it doesn't seem to work.
View 3 Replies View Relatedthe mail server itself will receive mail, that part works. i'm using dovecot imap to grab my mail, that works. but if i try to send mail from my iphone using an account on that server it doesnt work. this is what i see in syslog: May 15 07:14:52 coax postfix/smtpd[1432]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from mobile-166-137-139-003.mycingular.net[166.137.139.3]: 450 4.1.8 <eppo@customconnexions.com>: Sender address rejected: Domain not found; from=<eppo@customconnexions.com> to=<xxxxxxx@aol.com> proto=ESMTP helo=<[10.25.15.47]>

For some reason sendmail tried to connect to example.com smtp server and couldn't reach it. I am sure this is because the smtp server for example.com domain is not example.com is mail.example.com. Besides mail.example.com requires authentication, username , password and the smtp port is not the default 25 is 9999. configure sendmail to forward root mail to a smtp server that requires authentication, username, password with a not the default 25 port?
I'm trying to configure postfix so smart daemon can send out notifications emails. My system will need to send emails to a mail server that is on the same local network. I have not had much luck in getting this to work, and am confused on what I need to setup to do this and how to set it up. Does my system need to be apart of the same domain as the mail server? If so, how do I do this? Is there any restrictions sending emails from the command line as the root user? Do I need to configure a relayhost?
Basically all I need to do is send emails to a local mail server, i.e. a mail server on the same local network. I do not need to receive emails. I am rather clueless as to how to set this all up, and what I need for this basic email functionality. I have read and tried many postfix configuration tutorials, but when I try to send out a test email to a email address on the local network mail server I always get "Connection refused" to the server and deferred or bounced status on my test email.
I'm running SUSE linux Server version 11. I want to configure mail server with postfix & cyrus-imap. For that, i have read many documents in Internet by i met issues. I'm running DNS in this server & it's ok Now I cannont send mail through command line.

I just set up a new email server on Debian Lenny. It's Postfix for MTA and Dovecot for IMAPS server. I use Dovecot for authentication. I have two UNIX users on the system (except root), one was added before the installation of Postfix and Dovecot. I'm not doing any virtual things, just plain UNIX users and one domain on a dynamic IP. The first user, "webadmin" can send and receive emails just fine through the server from my mail client.
Now I just added a new user, "scarleo", and it turns out I'm unable to send and receive emails with this account. If I log in (SSH) with scarleo I can use bash mail to send emails, works fine. scarleo can also receive emails from webadmin and can connect to Dovecot to read emails. However scarleo cannot send or receive to or from anyone outside the server from my mail client. I have restarted both Postfix and Dovecot after adding the user. Do I have to do something else to make this account work like webadmin's?
A few relevant lines from mail.log: (I've modded my real IP)
Code:
Dec 7 17:44:42 homer dovecot: imap-login: Login: user=<scarleo>, method=PLAIN, rip=96.136.112.229, lip=192.168.0.18, TLS

recently i configure postfix on my fedora core 9 system i want to send mail from one user to another till now i did not create any user, i just configure the main,cf file with the help of some link i found on internet
here is my main.cf file
# Global Postfix configuration file. This file lists only a subset
# of all parameters. For the syntax, and for a complete parameter
# list, see the postconf(5) manual page (command: "man 5 postconf").
#
# For common configuration examples, see BASIC_CONFIGURATION_README

i dont know what i should write about my main.cf file so i post the whole file here.

For example - if I am using kmail for the account me@email.net and I have something from an irc chat or IM I need to keep for future reference (instructions for something, contact info for someone, etc.) I open a new blank email in kmail, address it to myself, copy in the info and hit send, but the message never arrives. I have previously used this method with Thunderbird and Evolution and it works in both of them just fine but does not ever work in kmail.

Mailx is what I am using, but I didn't have to configure anything; I installed it, and it just worked with the following command: mailx -s "SUBJECT" -r FROMMYADDRESS TOMYADDRESS < FILETOCATANDSEND
This occurs every Saturday and Sunday at noon after my backup scripts run.
I noticed yesterday that I did not receive these logs, so I logged into the machine, started 'mail' and saw messages like this: This is the mail system at host media.deagle.lan.

I'm trying to set up my postfix server to relay mail (via a php cms) using Gmail's smtp on my account, but for some reason, Gmail returns an error code that StartTLS must be sent first, my postfix main.cnf file can be found at pastebin, because of this forum's text length I cannot paste my postfix main.cnf file as can be seen I have everything set and configured for Gmail, but postfix (for some unseen reason) can not send StartTLS. i am trying to set up a mail server that will support users in a LAN in my school. I am using postfix on a Mandrakelinux distro.
I can send mail when I am root to the other user on my (same) machine both when in command line (mail command) and on Graphical mail client (Kmail ) but the user (sam) cannot send mail to the root account on either interfaces.
I followed the postfix configuration settings on John_Wiley_-_Redhat_Linux_Networking_and_System_Administration_3rd_Edition.

Let me start off by saying I am experienced with computers, though my knowledge of Linux and networking is limited. I've just recently started setting up a Ubuntu 10.04 server to be a SMTP server. I've followed this guide by the letter: [URL] What I've attempted, to test the server, is the following:
telnet localhost 25
ehlo localhost
(this returns all the desired information) I then do a MAIL FROM my domain which is accepted, and try to do a RCPT TO an external mail server (gmail) to test sending an email. I am then told 'Relay Access Denied'. I'm sure that there's something fundamental that I'm either not understanding or not doing correctly. I simply want an SMTP server that can send to other domains. What do I need to do?
