OpenSUSE Network :: Setting Up LAMP Server To Use The Mail() Function?

May 23, 2010

setting up my LAMP server to send email messages through my cable network SMTP server. If you respond please realize that I am new to linux/apache. I cannot send emails out with the built in email server on Suse and don't even know if it is enabled. I used to do it with my IIS/ColdFusion server but there were options for the outbound SMTP server and authentication. I have searched and think I have to use something called Pear but to be honest the instructions are vague to say the least and it all looks greek to me.

OpenSUSE Network :: How To Configure A Simple Mail Server With YAST

Aug 6, 2010

Probably because I don't know what to put in some of the fields. So; all I want to do is to run my own e-mail server for my business. The network is set up, the web server is running, but I'm having no end of trouble with YAST and the e-mail server.I have a single server running open suse 11.3 32 bit. It is attached to a modem/router. I have a static IP address for my registered domain. The server has a static IP address (192.168.1.8 in this case). My server is NOT running either a DHCP server nor a DNS server - there is no need, since there is nothing else on this box. It has only one network connection - eth0.

I'm trying to set up an e-mail server. I have been unable to get an 'advanced' implementation to work because all attempts to create a suitable server certificate fail. So for now I'll stick with a 'standard' set up.I don't know what I should put in such fields as 'outgoing mail server' (I've assumed I should use the FQDN of my server);I've no idea what 'masquerading' is for or what I should do with it;I don't know what I'm supposed to put in the 'outgoing mail server' in the 'authentication' section;I don't know what to put in the 'downloading' section;and I don't know what 'accept remote SMTP connections' does.I can get the server to start, but any attempt to retrieve e-mail from it ends in an authorisation failure - the syslog shows a sign-on attempt from my 'real' IP address and some form of numeric userid which cannot be found. So, if anyone can tell me what to put in YAST to make it work, I'd be a very happy chap.

Yes, I can telnet to 'my.server.my.domain' 25, so something must be right. But my Linux knowledge is not enough to get it working properly.

OpenSUSE Network :: Sending Mail From Webserver

Dec 31, 2010

I have OpenSuse 64bit running a web site. I have a form on this site here:- Dynamic Systems Group The script itself works and I have tested it on another hosted server and it works fine. However on my server the email the script sends never arrives, which must be a problem with my Postfix settings I guess. However I also have two pages on my site for testing sending of mail, which BOTH report a postive result:-

[URL]

However even though these pages report successful send the mail stil never arrives. I have looked at many pages and forums on the internet and I am really, really confused as to how to set up Postfix. On the Suse box I have the Mail Server configured in Yast to send mail via my Gmail.com account using TLS and authentication but still no success!

OpenSUSE Network :: Lamp Server With Specific Requirements For PHP

Oct 23, 2010

I'm needing to stand up a Lamp server for a SugarCRM migration. I've been told I need to ensure php 5.2 on the box along with ensuring several mod's are installed as well for php and apache. I was planning on using the lamp provided from xampp (apache friends) but they're current build is using PHP 5.3, any suggestions on how to get around it? If I have to build the whole thing from several packages (apache, php, mysql) then no problem, but I really like the myphpadmin page that comes with the xampp installer.

OpenSUSE Network :: Block Directory Browsing On A LAMP Server?

May 23, 2010

I currently have a LAMP server running with multiple virtual hosts configured. I have one virtual host with a sub directory that contains pdf news letters.do not want the directory browsable and tried putting an index.php file that re-directshe user to the root directory but when I go to the [web address]/[directory name] in any browser I see the contents of the folder listed.

Currently the news letter list is drawn from a database table and displayed as links on a page in the root directory. The links point to the file name in the sub directory. How do I block users from going to that sub directory and seeinge contents of that directory listed? Would I add another <directory> statement in the vhosts.conf file? If so how would I structure that directive?

Debian :: Intranet Server With LAMP - Mail Server ?

Aug 23, 2011

I am completely new to Debian . My aim is to get one of my machines to run this system as the intranet server including www server, mailing server, intranet server and LAMP at the same time on the small network. I have found some resources including how-to's how to install Debian as the normal operative OS not as the intranet server. I have also found this: [url].However that is applicable for the 'Mandrake' distribution (Mandriva). Now, I would like to ask few questions that will be applicable not only for me but for more users and if someone could answer them .

1.What installation source shall I choose, CD/DVD/Network Install CD?
2.I have found this: [url] ... troduction is that applicable?
3.How to install web server, mail server, LAMP and configure them, link above describes mail server installation not configuration itself.
4.How to configure intranet on Debian to work as the server serving the Windows clients (using Samba?)

If someone could propose a set of the sources or the instructions how to achieve all of the steps I would really appreciate that. Also, if sources will be given by the users I shall try to achieve what I want and write up 'how-to' for this problem. Therefore, me and other users would benefit from that.

I want to use postfix to sit in front of the two exchange servers. Postfix will accept mail for both domains and relay to the appropriate server. I have postfix installed with only defaults at this point.

Server :: Postfix: Sending Mail From Multiple Domains?

Jul 20, 2009

I'm running a server with two sites which both need to be able to send emails. Currently I have Postfix set up to send email via Google Apps. This works fine, but Google's servers ignore the From: address I specify and substitute the one I logged in with. Is there a way to make Postfix log into Google Apps with a different username based on what site the email is coming from? The server does not recieve any mail itself; Google recieves it and we have it set to forward it to the appropriate person's real email address. I'm only worried about sending mail.

(Postfix is not a requirement here, so if there's another mailer that can do this better, I'm open to ideas. However, sending email directly from the server isn't an option as it's a residential IP address and blocked by most of the big email providers.)

I'd like to have anything that tries to send mail locally on my machine (including crontab reports for instance) to be handled by my ISP's smtp server instead of my machine acting like it's own SMTP server. I've spent around 15 hours trying to figure out how to do this and I keep either getting into things that I don't understand, or hitting brick walls (for instance, I found nullmailer, but after installing it, it seemed like it would only work on Unix) Is there an application like nullmailer which I can use as my MTA to forward all internal mail to a different SMTP?

CentOS 5 Server :: Postfix No Longer Sending Mail?

Jan 7, 2010

One of my mailservers running postfix has suddenly stopped sending mail and has been generating the following errors:

Jan 7 12:03:08 postfix/sendmail[3560]: warning: premature end-of-input on /usr/sbin/postdrop -r while reading input attribute name
Jan 7 12:03:08 postfix/sendmail[3560]: fatal: root(0): unable to execute /usr/sbin/postdrop -r: Success

[Code].....

Things I have tried to fix this problem, but didn't work.

1) Stopped postfix, uninstalled and reinstalled.

2) Did a complete filesystem relabel with a touch /.autorelabel and reboot.

3) Did a restorecon -F -R on /etc/postfix, /var/spool/postfix and /usr/sbin/post*

Nothing above has worked and have no idea why with selinux disabled postfix works and with it on it fails.

Server :: Sendmail Isn't Sending Mail For Some Reason And Keeping It In The Queue

May 14, 2011

Sendmail isn't sending mail for some reason and keeping it in the Queue. I attemped to flush them but it deferres the connection to the server in which it is trying to relay the message to. I have checked to see if there is a DNS error or anything like that. I attemped to flush the messages through webmin.

This is the result.

Code:

I am not finding anything in the logs to let me know their is an error. I can ping the mail servers that it is trying to send to. Now it has started delaying when ping MX servers. So I knew something was starting to mess with it. I have checked the /etc/hosts. It is correct. The server isn't black listed. Mail to root just gives me.

CentOS 5 Server :: Sending Logwatch To External Mail Address?

Nov 4, 2009

My ISP blocks outgoing email if it does not login properly with a valid account. I successfully configured sendmail to use SMART_HOST and confAUTH_OPTIONS with confAUTH_MECHANISM set to LOGIN PLAIN.

It successfully sends email because I tested it with evolution sending through 127.0.0.1, but I need to specify myacount@mydomain.com as the email address for root.

But it doesn't work for logwatch because it sends as from root@localhost.localdomain, and my ISP's smtp server rejects it. The message I get back in root@localhost account is the following:

----- Transcript of session follows -----
... while talking to smtp.mydomain.com.:
>>> MAIL From:<root@localhost.localdomain> SIZE=581 AUTH=<>
<<< 550 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to send as this sender
554 5.0.0 Service unavailable

I thought that I should masquerade all emails from this domain, so I configured sendmail as specified in [1] section "24.3.1.4. Masquerading", but it doesn't work. It seems that masquerading in sendmail is broken or something is wrong in the documentation.

[1] [URL]

I have sendmail 8.13.8-2 and centos-release-5-4.el5.centos.1.

Is there a way to specify the "From:myacount@mydomain.com" in logwatch ? or Is there a way to make it work the masquerading in sendmail so I can masquerade everything as coming from a specific account?

OpenSUSE Network :: Mail Server Outgoing Address?

Feb 15, 2010

I just set up a new router for our home office. I've enabled traffic logging, and I'd like to have the logs emailed to me. However, in order to configure email-notification, the router needs and outgoing mail server. Forgive me, but I don't really understand the terminology being used here. I've googled this a bit, but I'm not sure I now what "outgoing" vs "incoming" mean in the context. I tried using my gmail account as the outgoing mail server (smpt.gmail.com) but it requires TTLS encryption, and there's no option for that on my router.

So I figured I'd setup a simple mail server on my local network. I have a dedicated server machine, so I'd just configure a mail server there. But I got stumped at the first input box (in the yast module):"Outgoing Mail Server".That's what I wanted to use this server for. What is this "outgoing mail server"? I understand it in a normal emai context (I think) but this is confusing me. I've read through the HowTo on the openSUSE wiki, but it still doesn't answer this question.Isn't there some way to have a simple, local mail server (without MX records and the like) so I can send email from a local machine?
