OpenSUSE Install :: Mouse Frozen After Upgrade 11.3

Jul 15, 2010

Just upgraded to 11.3 from the terminal. There were a few hiccups, but it said to run "zypper verify," and it downloaded a few files and finished. When I rebooted, the graphics were fine, but the arrow in the middle of the screen is frozen. I can move the mouse till I get carpal tunnel, but the arrow ain't gion' nowhere. So how do I "unfreeze" my mouse? (Besides knitting it a sweater!) I'm hoping for a "ctrl/f2", and that aterminal can be opened that way, with a command to wake up the mouse dameon.

OpenSUSE Install :: Frozen Mouse Cursor Image After Screen Power Off?

Sep 15, 2010

I run a HTPC which I recently upgraded 11.2 -> 11.3.Most things work fine but I've got an oddity. After the TV is shut down and restored the mouse cursor is "frozen":The old mouse image stays where it isHowever, the mouse IS active, in that you can (blindly) move the mouse, see it mouse-over widgets, and activate them - there's just no visible cursor where the hotspot is.Hardware is ATI chipset (can't remember which, offhand, but it's only a year or two old), running AMD driver, with a HDMI link to the TV.

Debian Installation :: Fresh Install - Upgrade To Frozen Squeeze Distribution

Sep 2, 2010

Every where I look online, people are posting ridiculous non-working ways to upgrade their system from one release to another--they do not work for me and I need a definite expert reply. I am working with a fresh install of Debian Lenny/Stable and wish to upgrade to the frozen Squeeze distribution. Supplementing the word "squeeze" in place of "lenny" in my sources.list file does not work and believe this to be an inappropriate way of upgrading. I have tried upgrading apt, dpkg, and aptitude before beginning the upgrade process, cleaning dpkg cache, rebooting, etc.

After updating the above packages I tried all methods of upgrading: safe-upgrade, full-upgrade, and dist-upgrade. All produce dependency problems and try to remove the gnome-desktop package or upgrade everything else except gnome-desktop. (Other packages are also affected, gnome-desktop is the most important in this instance). As I understand it, when upgrading you can comment out the volatile repositories as well as the security updates, is this correct?--either way I have tried countless combination's off commenting/uncommenting to try to get the needed results. I do not want use sid repos or reinstall.

Ubuntu :: Mouse Frozen, Even After Restart?

Aug 26, 2010

i'm having an issue with the touchpad on my hp pavilion laptop. as of this afternoon, the cursor has started to freeze immediately as ubuntu is booted up (but it is normal during the login screen process). i think this has happened because i accidently pushed a button i didn't know about right above the touchpad/mouse which froze the mouse, but i was able to toggle this a few times by pushing the button again.

the mouse froze completely after toggling this a few times, and it comes back after a restart but only during the login screen - it freezes immediatly as ubuntu is loaded and the cursor changes from black to white. the keyboard is still functional. are there keyboard shortcuts i can use to get to the start menu or the terminal to try and fix this issue? and what do you think i should do about it?

Hardware :: Mouse Frozen After Boot?

May 16, 2010

I've had this issue for years and on several different machines, all running various versions of Debian. I'm using a PS2 Logitech Mouseman 3-button mouse. Sometimes if I forget to move the mouse during boot, the pointer will be frozen. Keyboard works fine. When I remember to keep the mouse moving until the login screen appears, the pointer will work just fine.Right now I'm running 3 computers sharing same mouse/keyboard/monitor all different Linux OS, all have same issue. On a separate 4th computer running Mepis I changed that mouse to a different brand and problem went away. The problem seems peculiar to the Logitech mouse. (my wife wanted a computer that works, no hassles)The problem is getting more chronic. Is there a way to just put the mouse control into a configuration file and run it at startup instead of having the system do an autodetect?

Fedora :: Computer Seemed Frozen - No Mouse - Keyboard - No Network Visibility

Dec 21, 2009

so, last night i checked my e-mail, jumped on facebook for a minute and went to bed. i got up this morning and my computer seemed frozen; no mouse/keyboard, no network visibility.....nothing. the screen was just frozen. tried too ssh into it to reboot, but the network wasn't up on it. i had to hard reboot. NOW, it just reboots forever....and ever....and ever. i have a WinXP partition on there along with my F12 and that wont boot either. selecting a previous kernel does nothing either. it wont even boot off the F12 install DVD. just keeps rebooting. I've never had this happen to me. so, it seems like a hardware thing to me, but i dont know if its my mobo or the drive. i suspect a mobo issue as the drive still spins up and gets me to the grub menu.

Fedora :: Screen Goes Black - Mouse Frozen - Caps-lock Blinking

Dec 14, 2009

I keep starting up Fedora and I'm not able to get far (although it's not always at the same time) before my screen will go black, except it shows the mouse/cursor - but it's frozen, and thhen the caps-lock light starts blinking and I can't do anything or get it to recover. Sometimes it happens after 30 seconds, sometimes 40+ seconds and sometimes within 15 or so seconds.

How do I stop this and diagnose this?

I've tried, in the boot-startup to choose an older kernel version, butt the same thing occurs!

I have:
Fedora 11
Kernel: 2.6.29.6-217.2.16.fc11 i586
Asus EEE PC 1002HA

One other thing, it does always seem to happen after I've turned on wireless. And I've been using F11 for months now with no issue.

Ubuntu :: Frozen During Upgrade From 10.10 To 11.04?

May 29, 2011

I run Ubuntu (10.10) from a flash drive on my Dell computer. Yesterday when I tried to upgrade it to 11.04 After downloading a lot of files, and then installing most of them, my computer froze. When I restarted my computer, It went straight to booting Windows XP. I didn't get a GRUB screen at all.So somehow GRUB and Ubuntu got screwed up, and I'm wondering if there's anyway I could salvage what I have (I know I can use a Live CD to get my files off of there). So is there any way I could avoid having to do a clean install? Could I possibly salvage the files which upgrade to 11.04?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: No USB-Mouse And LAN After Upgrade To 11.4?

Apr 10, 2011

After upgrading from 11.1 to 11.4, USB-Mouse and USB-Keyboard aren't working anymore. Only a PS2-Keyboard works. The (wired) LAN is disabled as well. During Upgrade-Process all these devices were running (e.g.downloading from online-repositories was working).Maybe its the problem, that there are some modules missing:lsmod found only: dm_mod, sg, ohci_hcd, ehci_hcd, ssb, mmc_core, usbcore, pcmcia, pcmcia_core, edd but no usbhid! (I think that is needed for the usb mouse) The boot-log says:"eth0 No interface found"But the Mouse is detected (during boot and when plugged on later) and only does not work:"usb 4-2: New USB device found.....usb 4-2: Product USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse"(By the way, a USB-Memory-Stick is working)Mouse-Section at xorg.conf is fine (with Driver "mouse"), xorg.0.log says at top:(**) | -->Input Device "Mouse[1]" ; that is the correct one, but later on:(WW) AllowEmptyInput is on, devices using drivers 'kbd', 'mouse' or 'vmmouse' will be disabled(WW) Disabling Keyboard[0](WW) Disabling Mouse[1]It might also be some problem with the AMD/ATI Chipset (740G, SB700) although the USB-Ports are on southbridge but the LAN-Jack is on Northbridge and although everything was working fine with Suse 11.1.

Debian Configuration :: X Windows Blank / Frozen After Upgrade To Squeeze

Feb 18, 2011

I just upgraded from Lenny to Squeeze and now when I enter startx I get a solid black screen and the computer does not respond to any keyboard input. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, Ctrl-Alt-Delete, Esc, Alt-F2, Alt-F4, etc. all do nothing. No beeps or anything. I have an NVidia graphics card and have been using the proprietary NVidia drivers. I originally thought the problem might be related to this driver but I tried both the nv and vesa drivers and got the same results.

Attached is my Xorg.log.0 file. It just ends after the GLX extension initialization.I am able to use ssh to login after running startx. Running "ps aux" from the remote machine I did not see a process for X. I copied the output below the Xorg.log.0 file.

Ubuntu :: Computer Slower Than Frozen Molasses After Version Upgrade

Aug 20, 2010

On one of my computers I did something I rarely do--used the version upgrade method. I went from 9.10 to 10.04. I normally upgrade by burning a CD, wiping / and clean installing the new version.

This HP desktop was BLAZINGLY fast prior to this; now it's slower than frozen molasses.

Seriously, it's awful. It's like everything freezes, including the clock--say it's 1:11:23, it stops there and when it starts again it'll be 1:14:05 (or whatever!). And it does that continually. Meanwhile the trackball works as far as moving the pointer, but it's impossible to actually *do* anything.

I'm really, really glad I left my other four computers running 9.10 for the time being.

I'm going to do a fresh install with a CD, but I'm just curious if anyone else has had this experience after doing a version upgrade? I did it this time because I'm lazy and it was so easy!
