OpenSUSE Install :: Keyboard & Mouse Not Responding At Login?

Mar 7, 2010

I recently installed suse 11.2 on my system and during the install the keyboard (Microsoft internet keyboard PS/2) and mouse (Microsoft optical mouse USB with scroll wheel) worked perfectly, but once I reached the login screen they both became unusable.

I also tried rebooting into failsafe mode but once reaching the login screen the same happened again, the only key that seems to work is the 'F Lock' key and the optical light appears on the mouse.

OpenSUSE Install :: Multiple Login From Screen / Keyboard And Mouse?

Jul 9, 2011

I know that in previous versions of OpenSuSE one could be in front of the screen/KBD/mouse get things started, and log into another session and get things started there and run some apps, and so on. Now with OpenSuSE 11.x I see no means in which to do so. Is there another way? Point being is that I want to run one application as one user session and another application in yet another user session. Either one I can get to by switching user accounts at one screen/kbd/mouse. Or through VNC. No need to run something like xen or VMWare and incur additional overhead. (It is next on my list to try though.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.2 Install Fails - No Keyboard, No Mouse?

Mar 4, 2010

I just bought a Fujitsu Esprimo P1500 computer with Windows 7 Home Premium. When I try to install OpenSuse 11.2, the keyboard works in the first screen, so I can select "Installation" with the arrow keys. But when the next screen comes up (select keyboard etc.), neither keyboard nor mouse work. Well, the CapsLock and NumLock LEDs light up, but that is all (and hitting the corresponding keys does not turn them off.)

Ubuntu :: Mouse Won't Work After Install

Mar 15, 2011

I have recently upgraded to and then reinstalled Maverick (retaining the home directory). After the reinstall the mouse stopped working. It's not a hardware issue as the mouse works fine during the live CD installation. I have tried both a serial and a USB mouse. I have tried reinstalling a couple of times too.

I think I've had this issue before in a previous version but can't remember how I solved it.

I have been using Ubuntu for about 2 years now, and am by no means an expert. As a result I'm sure you will need more information but am unsure of what information that is or how to get it.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.4 X86-64 New Install - "jerky Mouse - Choppy - Randomly Freezes Erratic"

Jul 28, 2011

Environmentopensuse: 11.4 x86_64 new install
kernel: 2.6.37.6.0-0.5-desktop
qemu-kvm install
input devices: PS/2 Mouse, EvTouch USB Graphics Tablet

If I just take the mouse and scroll left and right over the desktop, the mouse is "jerky, choppy, randomly freezes, erratic". It occurs all the time. Trying to be more focused and select an object is challenging.

/var/log/messages shows: kernel psmouse.c Explorer mouse at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 1 bytes away Don't know if it is related, but in "Personal Settings" -> "Input Devices" -"Touchpad", there is a "Warning: Touch pad configuration is not supported on this system. ..." I have another virtual machine with the exact same setup running openSUSE 11.2 x86-64, kernel 2.6.31.5-0.1, and the mouse is not "jerky", but I have no wheel support. Comparing logs and config they look alike. I turned off all desktop effects.

OpenSUSE Install :: Multiboot System, But Last Bootloader Install Doesn't Work?

Feb 16, 2010

I've got a multiboot system with Windozin the first drive and first partition like everyone recommends. I have several distro's and just let them install their bootloaders, but always on hd0 mbr. I installed Debian 5.0.1 this way and it wouldn't boot, so I got SGD to "fix" it, which it said was successful, but all I get is a partition doesn't exist when I try to boot. I put Debian on /dev/sdb3, I loaded Linux Rescueand mounted sdb3 and verified that its menu.lst had the right boot numbers (hd1,2). fdisk even showns /dev/sdb3 as boot as shown by the asterisk under the boot column. Should I do a complete reinstall of grub, maybe using one of the other distro's as the holder of grub? At one time they did all the grub launching as each addition was made

OpenSUSE Install :: Crash Back To Login Screen After Login?

Feb 3, 2010

The graphical login screen is loaded just fine. Though very shortly after (a moment after the loading screen could be seen) it crashes back to the graphical login. And that happens no matter what wm I'm trying - gnome, kde3, kde4, e16, e17, even twm.

It happened after the logout after a zypper up yesterday morning. Looking through the list of what packages were upgraded (two machines, both last zypper up'ed last Sunday, checked on the second one after the problem with the first one), the only packages which might be responsible are kwin or qt4.

The graphics card seems to be fine (NVidia 9600), as it happens whether or not I use nv or the propietary driver. Also tried reinstalling it from the repo as well as using the binary blob from NVidia. Has been tested on Windows and games are running fine there, so it shouldn't be the card.

What is strange, is that when calling upon sax2 -r from runlevel three, the initial screen loads nicely, but sax2 crashes back to the cli once one presses 'Change Configuration'. No error messages are being printed.

Any pointers on how I can narrow down the cause (and get it fixed)?

Packages:
OpenSuSE 11.2 + KDE 4 factory & enlightenment & qt 4.6 repos
X.Org 7.4-35.3
Kwin 4.3.98-406.6
libqt4 4.6.1+4.6.20100202-1.1

Ubuntu :: Keyboard And Mouse Will Not Work Once Get To The Login Screen

Jan 22, 2010

I have a Logitech Wave keyboard and mouse for my computer. I am not sure which version of Ubuntu I am running on but I think it is 6.10. When I boot up my computer I can go into the BIOS and earlier today it would even let me press escape to seee which operating systems I could boot. Now it no longer lets me see the operating system I have (which is why I cant say which version of Ubuntu I have). It takes me to the log in page and asks for the username and password but I cant type and I cant move the mouse. Earlier I could also use Alt+F1-F12, but this is no longer working either so it just sits at the login page and nothing works at all. The computer that is having this problem is very old it is a Proteva and when I opened up the actual computer the processor says:

At startup the computer says that the processor is a: AMD K-6

I know that the BIO's are to old for Ubuntu to run properly because at startup it also says that: "ACPI :
BIOS age (1998 ) fails cutoff (2000), acpi=force is required to enable ACPI" it also says that: "ACPI : unable to load the System Description Tables."

I have'nt used this computer for about a year or two, but the last time I used it it worked perfectly fine. I have been seeing questions on the forums similar to mine, but their problems are on other versions of Ubuntu and their mouse's are said to work fine. I cant try any of the solutions for the problems I have read about because I cant open the prompt that you get when you are at the log in screen and press F2. I have no idea what to do.
