OpenSUSE Hardware :: Detecting WWID Number Of HBA On SLES11
Jul 2, 2010
I have SLES11 installed on server. I have attached 2 SAS cables which are connected to External storage device. I have connected 3 machines to external storage device. It shows total 6 IDs. I want to know which 2 are from which machine. I would like to find out the WWID number of HBAs on SLES 11 machine.

How do you change the hostname in SLES11? I have normally used the /etc/hostname file and rebooted the server in other distros. I only notice the way to change it is in yast2 -> network devices -> network settings -> Hostnames. I am looking for where it is stored because I want to write a script to update it (apart of a server deployment process).
Currently I run into a rather confusing case. I met bellow mount errors when I was about to enter the rescue mode on SLES11:
Code: Loading Rescue System (1/2) (19784 kB) - 100% Loading Rescue System (2/2) (10268 kB) - 100% Reading Driver Update...
[Code].....
Then I tried to extract the rescue image and to see what's wrong in the scrip, but it turn out that there is no boot script under /etc/init.d directory, either a similar one that may as it.
where is the script or which is the script does the mount things in rescue image?
PLUS, I can see /etc/init.d/boot script in SLES10 rescue image.
I'm having trouble running nnom under SLES 11 SP 1. The only version of nmon I can find is for SLES 10, but from what I can tell it should work. However, it isn't. When I try to run nmon_x86_sles10 I get the following error:-
I 'm using vmware server to virtualized suse linux enterprise server11 as the guest operating system under my main OS of window 7 professional version, but when i plug on the pen drive, SLES11 (guest OS) that hosted under vmware with window 7 prefessional as main OS can't detect of my pendrive but i can do this before at window XP version...
Skype does not detect my webcam, despite other programs such as aMSN and Kopete being able to detect my webcam. The 'lsusb' command says the following regarding my webcam.Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:08ac Logitech, Inc. QuickCam CoolI'm using Skype version 2.1.0.81 beta which is the latest version.I'm running Opensuse version 11.3 the 64 bit version
I have Dell 1530 laptop which comes with windows vista. i just want to run windows xp on that but i am unable to install then what i did is just installed OpenSuse over windows vista(erased) only suse is there now i want to install xp on it but i am getting problems (windows xp CD is not detecting by suse).
So I've got a Dell Poweredge R410 with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 installed and my boss wants me to configure it like this: Eth0 - No IP address (on general tab, activation set to "never") Eth1 - No IP address (on general tab, activation set to "never") Eth2 - No IP address (on general tab, activation set to "never") Eth3 - No IP address (on general tab, activation set to "never") bond0 - eth0, eth1, eth2, eth3 selected (Activation set to "On boot") No IP Address bridge0 - bond0 selected (Activation set to "On boot"). IP, subnet and hostname defined.
The DNS and routing has all been set correctly. The problem is when I set the network configuration as above I cannot connect to the network I'm unable to ping the gateway. I only have 1 cable connected and it's plugged into eth0 but apparently this doesn't matter. If I delete the bond and bridge and instead apply the settings to eth0 it connects no problem but my boss wants to use load balancing and states that that setup should work.
i just installed openSUSE on my machine which had windows 7 in other partition as primary partition. Now after rebooting i see the green screen showing only 2 options
I just got OpenSuSe 11.3 installed in a machine with two 160GB drives. I took all defaults at installation, works fine. Going to YaST expecting to detect and partition it. Not there. System Information, however 'sees' both disks. How do I partition and attach this disk?
at our SLES11 server there is an iscsi tape roboter from OVERLAND attached. From this great forum we learnt to use udev rules in order to fix the device name for the media changer /dev/sgN where N is altering after each reboot. Here is the udevinfo output of our tape changer:
#udevinfo -a -p $(udevinfo -q path -n /dev/sg5) looking at device '/devices/platform/host4/session1/target4:0:0/4:0:0:2/scsi_generic/sg5': KERNEL=="sg5"
During SLES11 installation I had to provide additional driver for ServeRAID-M1015 hardware RAID controller because linux didn't see any disks. Now I have to upgrade SLES11 to SLES11SP1 which may include installation of new kernel.
Questions : 1. What happens with this RAID driver after installing new kernel ? 2. Will Linux box start up after installing new kernel ?
I didn't have any luck finding the solution for not getting opengl working on a SLES11 server with a remote X-Win32 client. As a reference I've used the tool "glxgears" for testing. We have two servers. One (server A) with SLES10 and the other (server B) with SLES11. We use X-Win32 (ver. 9.x) as an X-server on a Microsoft Windows client machine. Both servers are connected to with ssh with X11 forwarding enabled (Xclock works fine on both).Starting glxgears from server A works fine; Three nice gears are displayed.

suddenly it stop detecting a memorystick being plugged in. I connect but nothing happens. At this time i can plug in any memorystick and it want detect it. Then i need to reboot to get it to work and then after avail it stop working again. I also have problems with unmounting (Safely remove device) in the GUI-tool. It works in terminal with "umount". In Dolphin i get error about problem accessing HAL or something like that. This problem is resisting even after reboot. Is there a bug?
When I mount my samba share on XP, I see the version number (e.g. marketing on 'Samba 3.0.29-SUSE-SL11.0 (samba.company.tld). How do I hide the version number?
I run zypper up regularly against the 4.3 repo and supposedly the latest stable version is 4.3.5. However, after the latest update I am still showing 4.3.4r2.
In short, using rsync to upload master database of music files to NAS which runs Twonky as media server. Rsync reports many more files being considered than Twonky reports as being available ie. 15K reported by rsync vs 13K flac and mp3 files reported by Twonky. Is there another easy way to count the number of files on NAS and in master database. I can mount NAS directory locally with NFS on same machine as master database.
Trying to install on a: Dell Precision T3500 OpenSuse 11.3 keeps showing the following message:
"Make sure CD number 1 is in your drive"
I ordered the DVD from the OpenSuse site, so they ARE NOT burned copies. I also tried burning images, the same problem happens. No matter what I do, it does not go beyond this message.
I tried ubuntu for a few weeks, but I couldn't get the nvidia drivers to work, I tried everything. So, I got sick of that, and went to download OpenSuse, which seems to be even nicer (..... ) I downloaded the 11.1 liveCD (gnome) from here. I nicley got the welcome screen, and the option screen (liveCD, check errors etc.). I chose LiveCD and it started booting, I got the splash screen with the loading bar, and after it completely loaded, the screen turns black with a lot of messages and at the end:
Code: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: Maximum number of X display failures reached: Check X server log for errors. Great, I hoped for better luck after Ubuntu.. My sys. specs: Asus F3Sc 32bit Intel CentrinoDuo
On a small network i have 3 WinXP computers and i've just installed a two new ones with Win7 pre-installed. As server i'm running OpenSuSE 10.3 and Samba with only one share. As i mount it to WinXP computers all get same volume serial number:
Code:
V:>dir Volume in drive V is AppDrive Volume Serial Number is 8CD5-975C
...and all Win7 computers get a diffrent one:
Code:
V:>dir Volume in drive V is AppDrive Volume Serial Number is A0D3-975C
We use application witch somehow only works when one/same volume serial number on a mounted drive is used.
