View 9 RepliesI run zypper up regularly against the 4.3 repo and supposedly the latest stable version is 4.3.5. However, after the latest update I am still showing 4.3.4r2.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOn a small network i have 3 WinXP computers and i've just installed a two new ones with Win7 pre-installed. As server i'm running OpenSuSE 10.3 and Samba with only one share. As i mount it to WinXP computers all get same volume serial number:
Code:
V:>dir
Volume in drive V is AppDrive
Volume Serial Number is 8CD5-975C
...and all Win7 computers get a diffrent one:
Code:
V:>dir
Volume in drive V is AppDrive
Volume Serial Number is A0D3-975C
We use application witch somehow only works when one/same volume serial number on a mounted drive is used.
Is there any way to limit x number of samba users by samba ? Say if there are already 5 samba users using the share, I would like to restrict any futher samba requests.. How do i do that ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Samba setup works just fine however whenever I do stop/start/restart. I get these errors in the logs:
Jan 17 00:21:14 neutrino smbd[4297]: smbd_open_once_socket: open_socket_in: Address already in use
Jan 17 00:31:20 neutrino smbd[4557]: [2010/01/17 00:31:20, 0] smbd/service.c:1009(make_connection_snum)
Does anyone know what to think of these? My thought is since it works just ignore and probably the SuSE team will get to cleaning this up sometime.
I would like to know how can I share folder with samba that samba does not show it to those users that have no access to it?

For some reason Firefox 4 seems intent on identifying itself as Firefox 5.0. How do I fix this? My extensions won't install claiming they can't run on 5.0.

There seems to be a typo on Slackware.com security advisory webpage for the updated ssl packages (but not for the actual packages on ftp.slackware.com). The webpage says this:
openssl-0.9.8m-i486-1_slack12.2.tgz
openssl-solibs-0.9.8m-i486-1_slack12.2.tgz
The package in the ftp.slackware.com/12.2/patches/packages repository is:
openssl-0.9.8n-i486-1_slack12.2.tgz
openssl-solibs-0.9.8n-i486-1_slack12.2.tgz
I am guessing its a typo on the webpage because I already have an 'm' installed.
I have a system with one 2.6.35 kernel, one 2.6.38 kernel I built from a koji src rpm and 1 rawhide 2.6.39 kernel I installed directly with yum. Now that a newer 2.6.35 is out, I'd like to yum update my 2.6.35 kernel so I'll have those two in the 2.6.35 range. But the problem is those newer kernels (38 and 39) make yum think there's no update that's available because they have higher version numbers than the new 2.6.35.12-90 kernel. Is there someway I can make yum update to 2.6.35.12-90 anyway? I was thinking I could download the kernel and kernel-devel rpm files for 2.6.35.12-90 and do the yum install for them off the hard drive, would that work?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI want a new kernel RPM in my custom CentOS 5 kickstart distro. I built the kernel, got a nice kernel RPM out, and replaced it in my ks.cfg. The install goes fine until the very end, where Anaconda prints some spurious stuff about mkinitrd failing.I get why it might fail -the kernel version argument to mkinitrd was no doubt for the old kernel. But I have no idea where this is -it's not in the ks.cfg afaict, and so I don't quite get where Anaconda / mkinitrd gets it from.
I'd eventually like to use this kernel for the installer as well, but I think I understand that process much better. How do I tell kickstart / Anaconda / mkinitrd to use the new kernel version number?
From what I can see it looks like I need to install Samba before I can share files between my Ubuntu 9.10 and Win7. I went to samba.org and they report the latest version of Samba as 3.4.6. When I searched for Samba in the Ubuntu software center, they report the Samba version as Version: 1.2.63-0ubuntu4 (system-config-samba).
Version 1.2.63 seems really old. Am I missing something? How can I install the latest version of Samba?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have CentOS 5.5 installed on my Dell D600. This release includes SAMBA 3.0.
Question: Is there a way to use yum to upgrade / install the latest version of SAMBA (3.5.3)?
A "yum search samba" shows there is only the "samba3x" release available - which is SAMBA 3.0
I've downloaded the SAMBA3-3.5.3-43.el5.i386.rpm package for Cent OS 5 from the SAMBA.org site, but when I try to install it, it fails due to package dependencies.
Short of downloading the source and compiling it myself, is there a better method to get the latest version of SAMBA installed on my system?
I want to have a Linux server "control" a number of Windows workstations. The workstations are a mixture of XP Pro, 7 Pro, and 7 Home Premium (the latter won't join a domain so can't have all the features I want mind). I want:
Centralised username and password database. Easy to add users. Roaming user profiles, so users can switch computers and take their settings with them. If possible, settings for selected programs shared between XP and 7. (They need separate profiles.) My Documents on a network file server. I'm interested in having transparent versioning on this - perhaps by using a copy-on-write filesystem, perhaps just by using a version control app on the server and having cron make a commit every night.
Able to manage software installation and removal centrally. (This I already do, using WPKG). Able to manage configuration centrally. Basically pretty much anything the user could change, I want to be able to force a setting of. I'm thinking desktop wallpaper locking, forcing use of a web proxy, setting printers, restricting use of USB drives, etc. Printer accounting.
Give the clients resolvable names (probably DNS, maybe WINS). This is mainly to help if I need to remote into a client desktop. I don't know to what extent this can be done with Samba. I know it doesn't have all the features of Windows servers, but I know next to nothing about Windows servers. So, can what I want be done? How I'm prepared to read docs for and test things out, but I don't want to be looking for tutorials on something not possible!
I've just loaded a laptop with Ubuntu 10.04, and I am unable to mount a samba share from an older Red Hat server. The problem first occurred when I tried using "Places -> Network" or "Places -> Connect to server", and the server's log gives me something like this
[2010/08/03 15:40:38, 1] auth/auth_server.c:check_smbserver_security(363)
password server 10.100.1.2 rejected the password: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
[2010/08/03 15:40:38, 2] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(319)

I have a strange problem about the system tray that I hope someone else solved ...I have 11.4 64bit with all the new up-dates installed and sometimes the system tray Stops hiding.I have the option to hide the system tray and it just stays there.I noticed this sometimes happens when the show plasma dashboard or show desktop widgets are used.Is there a "cure" for this? Does someone have the same problem ?Another issue is that in my install the /home mount point was mounted on top of an older install of Opensuse.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI know how to go through KDE settings to "hide" a user from the login screen but I want to know where KDM is getting this info from. I've installed OpenSUSE 11.2 x64, configured it the way I like, and now I would like to clone it. Problem is that I logged into my own account while testing FreeNX and now my username shows up on the login screen. I want to remove any information that I logged into this system with an account other than root. I've Googled many times and still have no idea. I currently have two local users, root and user. The rest of my users authenticate and login via LDAP. The name of my LDAP user account is now always displayed on the KDM login screen. I don't want to disable the user list either, I just want to remove my account from the list before I clone the machine.

When opensuse boots up and shows the login screen. The login screen shows all configured user accounts to select from.
How would I hide these accounts for opensuse 11.3 with KDE and opensuse 11.4 with LXDE.
In the not so distant past, I was able to hide arrays/encrypted arrays from nautilus with udev rules as follows:
Code:
## HIDE Encrypted "dm" partitions from nautilus
SUBSYSTEM=="block", KERNEL=="dm-*", ENV{ID_FS_USAGE}=="crypto", ENV{DKD_PRESENTATION_HIDE}="1"
[Code].....
This worked in OpenSUSE 11.2; it does not work in either FC13 or OS11.3
I just moved my bottom panel to the right side of the screen and set it to auto-hide., The panel hid it'self but will not un-hide when I move the mouse to the edge of the screen... I tried to re-boot, but the panel is still "stuck"Is there an easy way to fix this? Or will I have to manualy delete the panel and make a new one
