Server :: Unable To Run Nmon Under SLES11

OpenSUSE Network :: How To Change Hostname In SLES11

Jan 11, 2010

How do you change the hostname in SLES11? I have normally used the /etc/hostname file and rebooted the server in other distros. I only notice the way to change it is in yast2 -> network devices -> network settings -> Hostnames. I am looking for where it is stored because I want to write a script to update it (apart of a server deployment process).

SUSE :: Network Configuration SLES11 On Dell Poweredge

May 14, 2010

So I've got a Dell Poweredge R410 with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 installed and my boss wants me to configure it like this:
Eth0 - No IP address (on general tab, activation set to "never")
Eth1 - No IP address (on general tab, activation set to "never")
Eth2 - No IP address (on general tab, activation set to "never")
Eth3 - No IP address (on general tab, activation set to "never")
bond0 - eth0, eth1, eth2, eth3 selected (Activation set to "On boot") No IP Address
bridge0 - bond0 selected (Activation set to "On boot"). IP, subnet and hostname defined.

The DNS and routing has all been set correctly. The problem is when I set the network configuration as above I cannot connect to the network I'm unable to ping the gateway. I only have 1 cable connected and it's plugged into eth0 but apparently this doesn't matter. If I delete the bond and bridge and instead apply the settings to eth0 it connects no problem but my boss wants to use load balancing and states that that setup should work.

Questions :
1. What happens with this RAID driver after installing new kernel ?
2. Will Linux box start up after installing new kernel ?

I didn't have any luck finding the solution for not getting opengl working on a SLES11 server with a remote X-Win32 client. As a reference I've used the tool "glxgears" for testing.We have two servers. One (server A) with SLES10 and the other (server B) with SLES11. We use X-Win32 (ver. 9.x) as an X-server on a Microsoft Windows client machine. Both servers are connected to with ssh with X11 forwarding enabled (Xclock works fine on both).Starting glxgears from server A works fine; Three nice gears are displayed.

OpenSUSE Install :: No /etc/init.d/boot Script Found In SLES11 Rescue Image

Apr 29, 2010

Currently I run into a rather confusing case. I met bellow mount errors when I was about to enter the rescue mode on SLES11:

Code:
Loading Rescue System (1/2) (19784 kB) - 100%
Loading Rescue System (2/2) (10268 kB) - 100%
Reading Driver Update...

[Code].....

Then I tried to extract the rescue image and to see what's wrong in the scrip, but it turn out that there is no boot script under /etc/init.d directory, either a similar one that may as it.

where is the script or which is the script does the mount things in rescue image?

PLUS, I can see /etc/init.d/boot script in SLES10 rescue image.

General :: Programmatically Detecting A USB Device?

Dec 14, 2010

I have a USB modem and a large C++ application that needs to detect whether that device is present or not. I was hoping to get advice for what the best method to do so would be. The only solution I've thought of is to parse the output of lsusb and look for the vendor and product ID of my device, but that seems a little hack-ish and inefficient. Is there a command or program that I can provide it a vendor/product ID for a USB device and it can tell me whether or not such a device is present in the system? Or another, better way to detect the device than parsing the lsusb output that I've been thinking

General :: PS2 Mouse Is Not Auto Detecting In Linux 2.6.33.3 Kernel

Jul 26, 2010

I am working on linux kernel building and customising for our requirement.All these days we were using 2.6.9EL5 kernel to create our own Bootable kernel. Lately we moved to 2.6.33.3 as SATA CDROM support was not available during booting with the earlier kernel.Now with the new kernel i have got all the updates i wanted with respect to hardware detection during booting but having an issue with my PS2 mouse not auto detecting while booting. However i can configure the mouse with the popup that comes during booting by selecting the generic PS2 3 button mouse option. With this my mouse works properly. I am wondering is there a way to make the mouse auto detectable.I have attached one of the Xconfig file that is part of our process.

I read this thread: [URL] but I'm confused about what linmix is saying. Is there a way to get the power key to do the equivalent of what it would in Windows?

I don't find this an essential task, but it would make life a lot easier.

Edit: I mean Super Key not Power.

General :: Max Number From The Name Of A File?

Mar 24, 2010

I need to get the max number from the name of a file

Formant of the file name:
[a-zA-Z]*_[0-9][0-9]_[A-Z][A-Z].log
Delimiter as underscore '_'

[code]....

known part in the above file name will be GA.log A give directory may or may not contain files in the above format or may contain file other then the above format if so then ignore it.

Eg:-

1) Directory=/tmp/log having below listed files

ant_01_EG.log ant_02_GA.log ant_04_EG.log cvs_01_EG.log cvs_02_GA.log cvs_04_EG.log master_01_GA.log master_03_EG.log master_04_GA.log

[code]....

output=> 06

2) Directory=/tmp/log no files

cmd=> ls *[0-9][0-9]_GA.log 2> /dev/null | awk -F_ '{ print $2}' | sort -nr | head -n1 | awk 'BEGIN { if ($1 >0 ) x=0; else x=1 } END {printf "%02.0f
", $1+1}'

output=> 01

if there are no files the output should be 01 and if file(s) found the output should be next highest number+1, In the above example it is 06 My cmd is bit lenghty. reduce my cmd and it should be in one line.
