Fedora Installation :: Kernel-devel Package With Version Between The Fedora And Update Repo Version

Sep 11, 2009

I have a fedora 11 with kernel package: kernel-PAE-2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.i686

I would like to install the devel package for this kernel version, but I can't find it, because in the fedora repo there is only the original kernel (2.6.29.4....) and in the updates repo there is only the newest kernel package (2.6.30....)

Where can I find the packages which are between the fedora and update repos' versions?

Debian :: Svn Log - Check Out The Log As Well When Checking Out A Version From Some Repo?

Jun 14, 2011

Is it possible to check out the log as well when you are checking out a version from some repo. For instance this is a game I like :-

[Code]...

The game is called dawn-rpg and one can find about it at dawn-rpg.sourceforge.net but that's not what I want to talk about. The thing it would be so much more convenient for me if instead of going to the svn mirror or whatever it is and checking out the log, it was local. I know I could do something like this :-

svn log > svnlog150611.txt

This would download the log file and put the contents in some text file I have named as svnlog150611.txt . The problem with this way of doing things is that each time I have to check out I would have to create a new txt file with that date. If there was a way one could check out the log as well when checking out a new version/release it would be nice. Its also possible that this might be already be there and there might be another command to use locally that I am not aware about. In that case, would look forward to people to share the same.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Nvidia Video Memory Misreported

Feb 24, 2011

I'm trying to increase my framerate on World of Warcraft, and I'm not sure if this will help but it should in theory. I'm not even sure if I'm right in my assumption that it's currently non-optimal. nvidia-settings reports the full 1024MB of onboard video memory from my 420GT, but lspci reports three separate figures which don't even add up to 256MB:

[Code]....

Now, I don't know which to trust, is all the video memory being detected or just the pittance that lspci reports? To my mind, more graphics memory means you can store more graphical code and data closer to the gpu resulting in faster framerates, right?

OpenSUSE :: Removing A Repo - Error "can't Find The Data For The 'problem' Repo"

Nov 20, 2010

I wasn't paying proper attention when adding a repo to yast and need to find the file were the info is saved to delete this. The problem is that whenever i use yast it comes up with an error code saying that it can't find the data for the 'problem' repo. Have tried zypper rm but that comes up with a similar error advising that the data is in a format that was not expected. My thinking is to track the file were the yast repo source details are saved, delete this and then just add the repos that i use back.

Ubuntu :: Install A Newer Version Of A Package Than Exists In The Repo?

Aug 13, 2010

I am running Ubuntu 9.04 at work and have a sudden need to install a newer version of python-support (> 0.9.0) than is currently available in the repo (0.8.7) for my Ubuntu version. Upgrading to 9.10 is not an option as we are planning to jump to 10.04 LTS in the next few months and I am unable (unwilling) to mess with a complete upgrade prior. Is it possible for me to upgrade to the newest version of python-support - or is this package OS version specific? Assuming it's possible, how might I go about the process of upgrading?

Slackware :: SSL Version Number Typo In Repository

Mar 31, 2010

There seems to be a typo on Slackware.com security advisory webpage for the updated ssl packages (but not for the actual packages on ftp.slackware.com). The webpage says this:
openssl-0.9.8m-i486-1_slack12.2.tgz
openssl-solibs-0.9.8m-i486-1_slack12.2.tgz

The package in the ftp.slackware.com/12.2/patches/packages repository is:
openssl-0.9.8n-i486-1_slack12.2.tgz
openssl-solibs-0.9.8n-i486-1_slack12.2.tgz
I am guessing its a typo on the webpage because I already have an 'm' installed.

Fedora :: Any Way To Update Kernels Of Lower Version Number

Apr 29, 2011

I have a system with one 2.6.35 kernel, one 2.6.38 kernel I built from a koji src rpm and 1 rawhide 2.6.39 kernel I installed directly with yum. Now that a newer 2.6.35 is out, I'd like to yum update my 2.6.35 kernel so I'll have those two in the 2.6.35 range. But the problem is those newer kernels (38 and 39) make yum think there's no update that's available because they have higher version numbers than the new 2.6.35.12-90 kernel. Is there someway I can make yum update to 2.6.35.12-90 anyway? I was thinking I could download the kernel and kernel-devel rpm files for 2.6.35.12-90 and do the yum install for them off the hard drive, would that work?

CentOS 5 :: How To Tell Kickstart / Anaconda / Mkinitrd To Use New Kernel Version Number?

May 5, 2009

I want a new kernel RPM in my custom CentOS 5 kickstart distro. I built the kernel, got a nice kernel RPM out, and replaced it in my ks.cfg. The install goes fine until the very end, where Anaconda prints some spurious stuff about mkinitrd failing.I get why it might fail -the kernel version argument to mkinitrd was no doubt for the old kernel. But I have no idea where this is -it's not in the ks.cfg afaict, and so I don't quite get where Anaconda / mkinitrd gets it from.

I'd eventually like to use this kernel for the installer as well, but I think I understand that process much better. How do I tell kickstart / Anaconda / mkinitrd to use the new kernel version number?

Fedora Installation :: Updates After Install And Repo Lists / Saying Repo Not Found?

Mar 26, 2011

i'm attempting to know and understand fedora more and i will spend probably the next month pouring through all the forums and documents to answer more of my own questions. but there's quite a bit here, so i'd thought i'd ask some noob questions to get me started a little.

ive installed fedora 14 64bit and chosen only kde as the desktop. i selected an extra 2 repos besides the default, fedora 14 -x86_64 and fedora 14-x86_64 -updates. i believe this kernel is installed: 2.6.35.11-83

1. i can only see the 2 extra repo's as being "checked" in kpackagekit, shouldn't i see the default repo also ?

2. i dont have an applet in the system tray indicating the system is up to date, does fedora have this by default ? also after a clean install i ran yum check-update and yum update but the message sayes: "no packages marked for update". i'm not sure if the system is auto-updated during install or not, but with other distros iv tried there is always atleast a few updates needing to be done after install.

3. is kpackagekit the fedora gui package manager ? i dont see any others.

4. i want to upgrade to nvidia drivers, but i think i am missing a non-free repo or something. when i enter: yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 i get messages stating "no package" i get the same message with yum install nvidia-settings.i also tried this: LANG=C yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree info akmod-nvidia but it sayes repo not found.
