Skype does not detect my webcam, despite other programs such as aMSN and Kopete being able to detect my webcam. The 'lsusb' command says the following regarding my webcam.Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:08ac Logitech, Inc. QuickCam CoolI'm using Skype version 2.1.0.81 beta which is the latest version.I'm running Opensuse version 11.3 the 64 bit version
I just got a Logitech c210 webcam, as from what I gathered this UVC cam/microphone device works with Linux ...However ... skype 2.1.0.47 can't seem to see my webcam when it's connected, even though it appears to be configured when plugged in, as the following output from dmesg shows:
Code: [20227.480098] usb 2-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6 [20227.741045] usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=0819
I can view my webcam in the configuration setting in kopete, but I'm not able to view my cam on skype, it keeps on showing a gray screen! I tried almost go through on the web about this.
Using openSUSE 11.2 I tried and failed to make the Logitech webcam E3500 work under Skype, although it works well under luvcview and cheese. Can anyone recommend a webcam that does work under skype on 11.2?
I have much given up on my VX 3000 because not only the microphone doesn't work but also Skype crashes when I actually want to use it. The video only works in the settings/test video view but not for a video call. So: can anybody recommend a webcam with a microphone that works reliably on Suse 11.X and with Skype? I'm currently using Suse 11.2 but might upgrade to Suse 11.3, so it would be nice if the webcam would still work in 11.3...
I can't use the webcam with skype. I followed the instructions on the SDB Skype page of opensuse.org. I can make calls and recieve calls, but there is no video option. Sound isn't going either way during the calls. In Skype's options menu, there is a place to test the video. When I click on the "Test" button, Skype freezes and eventually the terminate application window comes up. The webcam is a Logitech that works fine in Cheese, and I've used it with previous versions of Opensuse and Skype. The only skype available that I've found is the 2.1 beta version, so that's what I'm using. I'm using Opensuse 11.4 with KDE4.
i have sony viao vgn-fz11 Can someone please help ,im new user to ubuntu been trying to get webcam working properly at the moment its upside down and does not work in skype at all just get black screen does this look correct? do i have the right driver?i will try and give as much information as i can.
Using Opensuse 11.3 (on an AMD64bit machine) and the latest version of the 32bit Skype package for Opensuse. Installed via links on skype.com (inc. mentioned dependencies on the skype website)Sound works fine but my webcam doesn't. It's a creative webcam instant model number: VF-0040.It works OK in Kopete, and is recognized as ZC3xx. In Skype the only webcam option is /dev/video0 which I can clearly see is not correct.
Regarding the use of lifecam VX-3000 with skype. In this thread Microsoft lifecam Vx-3000 webcam - HELP
I found a set of commands that allow me to use my webcam within skype by running the following Code:
Unfortunately, it looks like I need to type in these lines every time I restart skype. Is there a way to automate the process, so that when I start my computer it executes the code before starting skype?
What this code does? I find it difficult to run commands without knowing what they do. Do you have to be a programmer to know about these commands or should everyone who uses suse know about that.
I installed the 64 bit version of 10.04. I downloaded Skype and it works fine, but it doesn't see my built in webcam under 'options'. The monitor is a ThinkVision 2251x.
I am having this problem since the day I upgraded ubuntu from 10.04 to 10.10. Couldn't solve it then and now I would like to try again.
>> Webcam is working fine in Cheese Webcam Booth.
But it's not detected in skype. I tried this command
Code: LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype >> I didn't work as last time. Error Messages of it on terminal is as under: Quote: ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.
I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and have a Creative Web Cam Live. I installed Cheese first to test my web cam and it works fine but skype has a problem with it. Windows is dead and the Penguin rules!
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. I can't seem to get skype to work. See, the person I'm chatting with can receive video and audio, I can receive audio, but I cannot see them, even when they engage their webcam.
My cheese can take pictures from my webcam, but I can't see the screen of the webcam before I take the picture, it's only black, and when I click on the take the picture, it'll take it, and display it correctly, but the screen is black. Now, I just dled camorama, but it's saying "Could not connect to video device C/dev/video0). please check connection." I don't know what this means.
My lsusb says:
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub[code].... The Ricoh Webcam is a built in cam, but it doesn't work either. I have an external cam that used to work, but the cam works, it's just the display that seems effed up.
I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on my dv2000 hp latpop. I also installed the Beta version of Skype. But when I test webcam in skype the light of the webcam glows but I do not see image on the test screen. the test screen remains back. Could someone suggest what could be the problem and a possible solution?PS: The webcam works fine with "Cheese"
I have difficulty with my webcam and Skype. I can see the other person but she can't see me. From a previous thread: Are you sure your camera isnt working? Supported hardware drivers are in the kernel usually. Test: press alt+f2, type gstreamer-properties go to the video tab and see if your camera is listed as a device. If yes, press the test button. This test was OK. I could see my face on the screen.
Quote: Ah, the Skype camera thing. Launch it this way: LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
I tried this. It launches Skype OK, but the little window that should show what my webcam sees, appears full of black and white static.
It recognized the webcam alright. But after an update perhaps a couple of months ago, it no longer does. Skype is Beta version 2.1.0.81. If I go to Options, Video devices, it shows me only one option for webcam, namely Quote:USB Camera (05a9:a511) (/dev/video0)I click on test but nothing happens. I can communicate and see the other person, but she doesn't see me
I am running Maverick 10.10, kernel 2.6.35-22 (32 bit) on an HP DV2000 with Skype version 2.1.0.81The webcam is detected by lsusb as Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0c45:62c0 Microdia Sonix USB 2.0 CameraI have tried some of the normal fixes found on many other threads (and HERE), including running the following commands from the terminal:
I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a desktop computer. In general things work pretty well but I cannot get the webcam to work in Skype. It's a Zebronics webcam, not sure of the model number. I installed Cheese to see if it shows videos from the webcam connected to the computer and it does. In Skype preference I can see that Skype looks for the webcam in /dev/video0 but apparently it can't find anything there.
I wish there was some client program in Ubuntu/Linux which supported both audio call and video chat on the yahoo network. Kopete supports only video and Gyache is not compatible with the new Yahoo 10 protocol or whatever it is. Extremely frustrating for someone who is trying to get others to use Ubuntu instead of Windows.
I have a Dell E6520 with Ubuntu 11.04 installed. The webcam and everything else has worked like a charm, including webcam in Skype and other applications. Today Skype webcam got VERY dark. I installed cheese and started it up. The screen was dark initially, but auto adjusted to be good again.
However in Skype same problems. So I followed this: [URL] and installed guvcview and tried to set some values. Suddenly I got some exceptions, and now nothing is working. Cheese will not even show anything else then a hint of a lamp that is in the background. I have tried to install many different software to be able to set the webcam, but no success. In some I get an decent image to start with, but then after one second it will go dark again.
Basic: Video call in Skype using the C310 causes the PC to crash at random times during the session. The quickcam seems to be ok, just an awful experience. Thought it might be a pulseaudio problem so did the following:
added autospawn = no to .pulse/client.conf killall pulseaudio Restarted Skype Changed audio settings in Skype to use MB chip ICH5 Restarted pulseaudio -D
No difference (if anything crashes quicker) except the CPU load is halved.
The pc freezes and is unresponsive. lights on keyboard flash.
I have no idea if this is sound or video card related.
When i run skype, it detects my camera , but it work show any picture when i test. In gstreamer-properties testing, it works fine using v4l2. When i use Cheese, it comes up with no problem. Below is the terminal output from my testing. How can i get this to work?
