I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10. However the bottom of the screen is cut off with only a trace of it visible. I had similar problems with version 10.04 where both and top and bottom of the screen were not displayed.
I have noticed that version 10.10 does not use the proprietry driver the previous versions used.
In desparation I have tried Kubuntu but the results are still much the same.
Does anyone have any idea how I can display a full screen with an Nvidia integrated graphics controller.
I really wanna use the OS. I wiped my laptop and installed it but I can't change my screen resolution (it's stuck at 1024 X 768 and my refresh rate is at 0 HZ) I tried installing a driver that was for both the i9xx and i8xx chipset family but it doesn't look like it helped anything. I want to be able to play World of Warcraft Wrath of The Lich King but when I try it the way the computer is now the the frame rate is really really slow. I also need to fix my audio because there's crackling that comes from the speakers often. I attached a screen shot of what I get when I enter the command: sudo lshw -c video Changing the resolution isn't the problem so much as the fact that I can't change the refresh rate from "0 HZ" to anything higher so that my game will play smoothly. I would also like to put compiz fushion on my laptop as well but I don't believe it will work unless I resolve this problem.

Just got World of Warcraft Installed and when I start the game after I get past the 2 cinema's while I'm trying to click yes on the rules the screen seems to bee flashing over and over and over. I was thinking maybe the 3d accelerator isn't installed or maybe I need to install something because its Intel?

my PC can have resolution of 1024x768 while running Windows XP and Ubuntu 6, but on Mac OS X and Centos 5 I just can use in 800x600 resolution mode.in Centos, i did:

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 motherboard with integrated graphics that shows up on lspci as an ATI Radeon 2100. I also bought a PCI-Express Nvidia graphics card so I could use the VDPAU feature on Linux (plays H.264 in hardware). The BIOS has three settings about which display to initialize first:
Integrated graphics
PCI graphics
PCI-Express graphics (PEG)
I set the BIOS on PEG, but
I cannot get anything, not even a splash screen or POST messages, to emerge from the PCI-Express graphics card. (I'm using a DVI connector; the card also has an HDMI output.)I cannot get the kernel lspci to see the graphics card; the only VGA controller it acknowledges is the integrated one.Running dmidecode acknowledges the existence of an x16 PCI Express slot, and it says

There is an additional BIOS setting called "Internal Graphics Mode" which is normally set to "Auto" which means it is supposed to prefer a PCI Express VGA card. I set it to "Disabled" which now means I'm getting no output at all. I will soon be learning how to do a BIOS reset!
Other information: The PCI-E card is a MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210. This is a fanless card. Although there are no fans to see turning, the heat sink on the PCI-E card is definitely getting hot, so the card is getting some sort of power.It gets all its power from the PCI-E slot; there is no external power connector.The BIOS is an AMI Award BIOS.how can I make the PCI Express graphics card visible to Ubuntu?
I have been unable to get both opensuse 11.2 and 11.3 32 bit versions work properly on my DELL Latitude E6410 laptop. With both 11.2 and 11.3 KDE Live CDs I get no graphical display when I attempt to boot into the Live system. VESA mode does not help either, only text mode works. So I installed the system in text mode but during the first boot the screen went blank again.
One peculiar thing is that 11.1 installs and boots fine, what gives? Is this even supported or I shouldn't even try to bother getting this setup to work? Has anyone been able to run opensuse 11.3 on a Core i7 integrated Intel graphics system with X system working?
! I'm thinking of buying a corei5-660 on a motherboard with an Intel H55 Express Chipset. Does anyone know if it's fully compatible with OpenSUSE 11.3? I'm using a lenovo notebook with switchable graphics (Intel HD and ATI Radeon 5650), and I'd like to have Ubuntu use the integrated graphics, but I can't figure out how. The BIOS has two graphics options: switchable and discrete. On discrete just the ATI card runs, but on switchable, it seems like both cards are being used. Is it possible to use just the integrated graphics?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop computer with integrated ATI graphics. Specs below and lspci log attached. I was running 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope until 1 week ago. Everything worked fine from the day I installed it. It's default driver worked fine and graphics requiring applications like Google Earth and Secret Maryo Chronicles (game) ran smoothly. Then about a week or so ago I did a clean install of Lucid on this PC. And now Secret Maryo Chronicles runs choppy and Google Earth doesn't run and display images smoothly. I could understand having problems like this if I were switching to Fedora or something but I'm still using the same distro (and both are recent versions).

ATI Radeon Xpress 200 integrated graphics with 256 MB RAM
Intel Pentium 4 clocked at 3.00 Ghz
2 GB RAM (.25 being used for graphics card)

This problem doesn't really have anything to do with Linux, but I've used Linux exclusively for 10 years and this system is Ubuntu bound anyway, (plus i don't trust other forums, always with the windows) so... Basically, my brother's GF's computer has a broken integrated graphics card. Literally. Some of the the solder points have broken, and it just doesn't work anymore. The plan is/was replace it with an Nvidia Geforce N6200 AGP since it has an AGP slot. The rest of the MoBo seems fine.
The problem is I don't know how to switch from the broken integrated graphics to the new AGP. The screen will not come on with the monitor plugged into either of them. Will a bios reset switch them for me (so I can finally fix this damn thing)? Or is a new motherboard necessary?

Just put 11.4, 32 bit on a system with an Intel D865 GLC motherboard and 865G built in graphics controller. While the install went OK it turns out that X is totally hosed. After fighting with things for a while and discovering that Sax2 had disappeared I poked at Google and discovered some other poor folks that have had similar issues with Intel video cards. Based on a suggestion for a doc in OpenSuse.org I edited the file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf
and added the line: Driver "intel" to it - after that things got better. Obviously the install process had not identified the video card correctly. I'm now left with another issue - while the system now identifies the driver and can talk to the monitor correctly, a Samsung S23A350H I can't open a window after X comes up and I login - basically the same issue as the unresolved Bug 673873: [Bug 673873] intel [865G] Windows flash rapidly or don't appear if Desktop Effects are on in KDE and GNOME
The workaround is to turn Desktop Effects off but since X doesn't work I can't figure out how to do that. I can't find the gnome-xgl-switch or a xgl-switch that used to exist to do it on the command line so that's out. Someone said you could drop the empty file "disable-compiz" in the ~/.config/compiz directory and that would do it but in 11.4 that directory doesn't exist. how to disable "Desktop Effects"/XGL/compiz or whatever it is now called on the command line in OpenSuse 11.4 without a gui if that is still possible?
in ubuntu land i have been thinking and i have intergrated HD graphics on my craptop i bought it for my study so it doesn't really matter but my theoretical max graphic memory is 3GB and i am only using 128 MB now has any one figured out a way to alter the default ;/. im sure it is possible to increase processing power form the split with CPU to but im sure acer have locked such capability.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a PCI graphics card, Nvidia Geforce FX 5500, but can't get it to work. I have 10.04 installed on a Dell Dimension 3000, P4, 1Gb RAM, integrated graphics. I installed 10.04 without the card in the machine, then shut down and plugged the card in and booted it up again (BIOS setting is 'onboard' for integrated graphics, 8Mb; only other option is 'auto'). Checking the hardware drivers I can see the recommended Nvidia drivers (v173, not yet activated) and lspci gives me the integrated as well as the Nvidia listing:

So far so good, but that's where it ends. Changing the BIOS setting to 'auto' turns the screen off on reboot, both for the monitor connected to the VGA port of the Nvidia card and for the monitor connected to the VGA port of the motherboard. I have to shutdown, take the card out and set the BIOS back to 'onboard' to be able to boot again (and shutdown, plug the card back in and boot up again to get back to where I was).
Activating the recommended hardware driver and rebooting (still with BIOS set to onboard) gives a blank screen (screen is still on and there may have been a flash of the purple screen with the ubuntu logo); nothing else happens no matter how long I wait. Rebooting doesn't help, it turns off the screen; same result for booting in recovery mode. I can get to the GRUB bootloader and when I replace 'quiet splash' with 'nomodeset' I manage to boot again with the monitor connected to the VGA port of the motherboard, but am not anywhere closer to getting my monitor working on the Nvidea card.
I've found that whenever I play a 3D game on Ubuntu, the graphics go crazy and make the game unplayable. I've found this an various games such as SuperTuxKart and Alien Arena.By the way, I'm running an ATi Radeon Xpress 200 (integrated graphics) with the default Ubuntu drivers.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've borrowed a copy of 11.4 DVD install disc from someone at work, everything went fine install wise. Except Grub taking control, which I didn't ask it to, but easy fix with yast, problem is firstly my graphics resolution is wrong, but I'm trying to work that one out myself as it always seems to be happening with distros I use on my machine. The weird thing is my desktop blinks! Every 10secs or so the whole screen goes blank and then reappears? I thought it might be the wrong refresh rate, but that's at 60Hz which is correct, would it be the resolution problem?

I was trying to running diagnostic's from Opensuse, but the blinking was getting on my nerves and I'm not familiar with a non Debian based OS......yet! I've got compiz and all running on the hardware in my Ubuntu install after editing the xorg.conf, could I simply copy that to my Opensuse install?
I'm having a problem here with my graphics card. Until not very long ago I was using the controller Ubuntu downloaded for me. However I recently downloaded another one from the ATI page, called ati-driver-installer-11-3-x86.x86_64.run and installed it.
So far, I've encountered two new problems:
1. The ATI Catalyst Control Center would not open after I setup the Tear Free Desktop.
2. The computer is running slow. Files take longer to open, minimizing and maximizing windows takes longer. Wi-fi connection takes longer to connect, etcetera. Overall, everything is going slow.
Are these problems related? I would like to uninstall the driver as the computer was working just fine before. In addition to this, I have firefox 4.0 and the colors on most of the images are darker than they should. The images look fine on other browsers except firefox. I read I had to do type "about:config" in the address bar, find "gfx.color_management.mode" and change the value from 2 to 0. What did I exactly do there? I took the advice from this thread: [URL]
I'm stuck at 800x600, and no matter what i try i seem to hit a dead end. I've got the Intel Mobile 945GM/GMS rev 03, and it seems like lots of people have had to fiddle to get it working. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed the latest debian on a dell optiplex gx260 which has a 82845G chipset and there are some strange problems.The system is configured with autologon as a standard user. Sometimes, after logging on, the screen goes black but if I connect to it with vnc, I get a working desktop. Yesterday I booted it without a display attached to it and now I cannot set it to the right screen resolution anymore (1440 x 900) which was working fine before.
I have googled and searh the forum but cannot find the right information. According to Intel, the latest driver should be in the distro but I cannot find any details about that (version/date). grep Driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf returns

I've got a "little" problem with fedora 13: dual head with nouveau is not working. gnome-display-properties recognizes two displays and i can configure it (left, right, mirroring, ...) but first display is always in standby. Seems it doesn't get a signal from graphics controller. Desktop seems to work fine (can move the mouse pointer on the other screen into "the black hole"). I use Fedora 13 x86_64.

I've installed Suse linux 11.3 (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.5) on my brand new computer HP all in one 5130. Everything worked incredibly well : Wifi, wireless keyboard and mouse, sound, webcam.. There is only one remaining issue : I get a very poor resolution (1280x1024) instead of the 1920x1080 allowed by the screen. The graphic card is an intel chipset (HD graphics) integrated to an intel core i3 CPU. Here is (part of) the X11.org log :

I have Dell E6510 laptop with i5 CPU (Arrandale), Intel HD integrated graphics card (Ironlake), and 1080p display. I know other distros are also having problems with Ironlake but there are some work arounds.
Is there a way to install 5.5 on my laptop and have UI and 1080p resolution?
I have to say that 5.4 Live runs well - UI loads with correct resolution. With 5.5 live I get black screen.
I installed a GIMP plugin (David's batch processor gimp) and a lot of packages got updated in the process.
The monitor resolution dropped significantly and going to applications -> system tools -> preferences -> settings -> display gives me the message 'could not get screen information' my webcam and microphone is not recognized anymore either ALT + TAB does not change between open windows. power off does not work. I have to shutdown the system using the command line.
The GUI has changed a lot as well. new color schemes (that I don't really like) file system manager has a completely new look too.
it is very strange. My GRUB screen is still in the old resolution. when the system boots up at some point the resolution changes to the lower resolution.

I've been loitering over my resolution and nvidia xserver settings for about 2 days now, fiddling with xorg.conf and breaking ubuntu in the process trying to get my resolution at it's native settings. I've searched through many forums and none of them have solved my problem. Its maximum resolution is 1360x768, which isn't enough. It should be 1440x900. I have tried adding custom modes to the xorg.conf file and it wouldn't work. I don't know what's going on. Also here is my xorg.conf since I saved the nvidia settings to it...

I recently installed Kubuntu 9.10 onto a HP/Compaq dc5000, video card Intel 865GV w/Extreme2.The LCD monitor I have is V7 L17PS max resolution: 1280x1024.My problem is the maximum resolution that is available in Kubuntu is 800x600.I tried to run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" from terminal however I got not response. No screen or app started.I also tried to install "xserver-xorg-video-intel" from KPackageKit however it never allows this, the Apply button stays grayed out.What can I do? Am I able to change the screen resolution to something higher?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just stupidly changed my graphics resolution in System - Preferences - Startup Manager, now i dont get a login window or anything just a black screen. I also disabled the splash but i assume this just gets rid of the ubuntu loading line thingy?
The weird thing is that the resolution was set to 640x800 or something like that in the Startup Manager as default and the laptom im using (an old Toshiba Amilo P4) supports 1024x768. the System - Preferences - Display menu wouldnt let me change any display settings which is why i was messing about here. I havent got any backed up x org file and only a live usb of super os/ubuntu - no cd or floppy drive.
I'm looking for advice on which is the best video card to get for Ubuntu 11.4. At the moment I have an INTEL SERIES 4 INTEGRATED GRAPHICS CONTROLLER and I can only get it recognized as a "VGA COMPATIBLE" Due to my eyesight I need to have the resolution smaller something like 1168 x 752 I dont need to be be able to play games or anything like that. Just typing, videos and general PC work. OR if anyone could point me in the direction of installing better drivers for my INTEL card as I know Windows XP can give me resolutions of this depth.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying a bunch of different solutions to getthis fixed. Let me give you the details: I'm currently on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. I have a Geforce FX 5200 graphics card and I have the nvidia proprietary drivers installed (version 96, I tried 173 as well but there's doesn't seem to be a difference).
My monitors native resolution is 1680x1050 but since my graphics card cannot handle that resolution I use 1280x1024. I've had this resolution working before on Ubuntu as well as Windows with the same graphics card. My problem is that in nvidia-control, the list of resolutions does not include 1280x1024, and the closest to that is 1280x900 which is not supported by my monitor. So the only tolerable resolution I can get is 1024x768.. if you've used this resolution then you know that it is not tolerable for long. So I tried to force the resolution by using xorg.conf.. Here it is:

For some reason this isn't forcing 1280x1024.. I'm still in 1024x768 and it still doesn't list it in nvidia-control.. What's weird is that on the previous release (Jaunty or Hardy) this xorg.conf worked fined and got me my 1280x1024.
