View 4 RepliesGot a few servers runnning and they all connect fine to the net. Each are running with a static IP provided by my ISP. But I have one server were I re-installed Debian Lenny - or tried to. At the stage were it wants to connect to a mirror it cannot due to network problems. I tried a new install leaving it behind a router. This solved the problem and it connected. Tried once more directly connected to a static IP and same problem happened - it got to the point with the mirror. Tried changing the settings after the installation through the router. This is what I get from ifconfig :

If I ping it from one of my other servers it shows as OK and can also ping my other servers from the server in question, but if I ping google.com it times out (fails). The IP 92.62.196.77 is in the range that I can use. Checked that with my ISP. Just to make sure I tried disconnecting one of the servers that I have working and changed the server in question settings and still it came out with the same problem.
I have a Belkin N router setup with a virtual server to port 80 to 192.168.2.2 which my server sits on.
However, for some reason, I can get to the server from other PC's on the Router, but from outside, it will not port to the Server?
Any ideas on how to setup this?
I have Windows Webserver 2008 installed running on a 3.0GHZ Server.
I m installing need for speed world under wine. so the setup goes fine but than when i try to open it it will not open if this is important i am running ubuntu 11.04 unity

I have run into a problem using FreeNX in combination with public key authentication. I have Googled myself silly, but I can't find the exact answer to my problem. I am hoping that someone here will know the answer. First, let me tell you what I am trying to accomplish:
- I don't want my ssh server exposed to the Internet with password logins enabled. I only want public key authentication.
- I want to have access to NX server from anywhere in the world.
- I want NX to use a custom keypair, not the default supplied by FreeNX.
My environment:
openSUSE 11.2 (client and server)
KDE 4.3.4 (client and server)
FreeNX-0.7.2-26.5.i586 (server)
openssh-5.2p1-9.1.i586 (client and server)
NX Client for Linux 3.4.0-5 from NoMachine (client)
qtNX Client qtnx-0.0.1SVNr281-215.1.i586 (client)
The login problem persists, whether I am connected to the same network or to another network. Since ssh logins work, I don't think a firewall is the culprit. What do I have working so far: - The ssh server on the remote host only accepts public key authentication and I can login from the client without problems. So far so good. - FreeNX is installed on the remote host, using a custom keypair.
Authentication with this key works. I can login from the client with the nx user and the public key.

I can't seem to set this older server right to deny outside access while I build a website on it. What I am trying to accomplish is deny anyone outside of my network access to the website, but replace the 403 error with a temp page letting them know it is coming soon. I have googled for hours and everything I have tried just denies me as well. Seems to be all or nothing.
My last attempt was:
Code:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName www.mydomain.com
ServerAlias mydomain.com
ServerAdmin me@mydomain.com
DocumentRoot /home/me/www/site
ErrorDocument 403 /temp.htm
<Directory />
Options FollowSymLinks -Indexes Multiviews
AllowOverride None
Order Deny,Allow
Allow from 192.168.0.*
Deny from all
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
i can't receive outside emails on a postfix server. i was able to get it to send emails with help in this thread. i can telnet into it via localhost, but not via domain name.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy website, IsleDiscount.com, is hosted on a virtual server with pair.com. Pair.com offers only one SFTP account on regular shared server and to set up mutltiple SFTP accounts, Pair.com moved me to a virtual server (VQS1), which I believe is not a shared server solution, but Pair representatives were able to create multiple SFTP accounts on this VQS server.
However, when I asked the representative to restrict access of this additional SFTP accounts to a sub-folder, I got the following warning email: confirm you understand this will make your entire web directory world-writeable. This will increase the chances of a security attack. If you do understand this, you can go ahead and execute the command yourself. The command below will accomplish both commands in one.

I went away from home for a few days, ... Now I am back at home and noticed, that my server is going out with 100% available bandwidth. The server is mainly Http / Ftp / Mail server, so I stopped all services, to see which one it is. ervices stopped, still 100Mbps go out like ants in the flood.
I updated the system, made a backup, installed IPtraf. It seems that I have something 'installed' and my server is running something to attack User computers. It seems to try to find something on random IP's random ports. I am a little bit confused now. As long as my sites are running, I'm ~OK~ but sooner or later I would like to have my bandwidth back. How could I try to hunt down which service/app/process got hacked?
It seems that the monetary system of our society got now more enemy's than friends. Capitalism seems to reach it's end. But my server is serving also ART! Sooner or later we will need to pay copyright even for our thoughts. I was reading today, that the French president wants to punish file sharing as his wife made 3 albums, and wants to get some money ..
i built a new basic squid proxy server. so when i check my ip from internet various website. it shows my local ip address.
1) how to know squid proxy mode working in which mode, like tranparent rever or web proxy etc
2) how to hide all local ip from outside world, let our isp proxy global show everywhere by which traffic go out
I'm trying to decide on how to host and serve files to multiple operating systems (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows XP and Windows 7) over the internet. I'd like this to be secure (obviously), but don't want to use SSH tunnelling.Ideally, this would be something which could be persistently mounted on the client machine (a network drive in Windows, likewise in Mac OS X and Linux) and wouldn't require the installation of extra software on the clients. I thought about samba, but I'm not sure if it's secure enough to be internet-facing. Would FTP fit?resumably it's possible to have encrypted connections only and limit connections to a specified number of client IPs.

Im using ubuntu 10.10. the other question is, i got a big family who aren't computer savvy at all. Is there a way to remotely assist them if they are on windows or mac. im looking for something similar to the windows remote assistance. With both users being able to see and control the desktop. with the hosts permission. something simple enough so it wont be a whole process to walk them threw to even get connected to in the first place.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble getting my FC10 with tomcat visible to the outside world. first off i am somewhat new to linux. I am running vmware workstation to host my linux web server. i have my VMWare setup to use my second NIC solely. it is bridged and the tcp/ip is disable from the host. i can ping the ip address but cant access tomcat on port 8080 from the outside. i can hit it fine from inside fedora. i have configured my router (wrt54gs with DD-WRT firmware) for port forwarding. so basically i think that the problem is somewhere in between the host and the vmware configuring allowing the port to be forwarded through.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo having recently set up my server (including some disk space and ushare, and an additional laserjet printer) I was wondering if anyone had any experience of putting a multifunction printer into an ubuntu server and adding it locally (to the server) then to the networked computers....I know this printer works perfectly (the scan too!) when plugged directly into a machine's USB....I suppose my real question is....does anyone know anything about the scanner side of it?? is this going to work?? I reckon the printer side will (/should - i know the printer works and i know the server can share printers.....lol) but the scanner side is relatively new (when put into the context of shared from my HS.Please note:My server is just running vanilla (plain) ubuntu 9.10....and my compo's are 10.04 and 9.10....ubuntu ONLY network...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm in the process of starting a migration from an old postfix server to nice shiney new exim server however there are a few things i'm really not clear on and i'm hoping that some one here could point me in the correct direction. Okay the postfix server at the moment does the follwoing ( i'll try and keep this simple ):
* accepts incoming mail for users on multiple domains and puts the mail in the users mailbox ( external -> internal )
*accepts mail from users on multiple domains to pass on to the outside world ( internal -> external )
Obviously the POP and Imap functions are handled by other daemons.. I'd like to replicate this sort of setup on the new exim box, however the guides i can find only help with configuring the exim system for incoming mails ( external -> internal ) for multiple domains and i cant seem to find a guide that would indicate how to do both ( internal -> external and external -> internal ) on one box. I'm guessing i may have to do some sort of auth to get exim to accept and then handle the internal -> external side of things?
Any easy to install/configure network/server monitoring tool? PLease note I'm looking for something of little lightweight here (Not something like zenoss) But I'd still like to get performance graphs and event notifying alerts. Also note this is to monitor less than 50 servers and perhaps a firewall or 2.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have sendmail running on my centOS 4.6. My lamp server also runs on it. I want to send mail through php mail function. when i execute php page, which fires the mail function, it takes so much long tim1 say even 1 minute, and at last displays that message sent successfully. Suppose, destination address is [URL].... I did not get any mail there. My server is running in LAN. I checked the status of sendmail, it shows me that it ios running. when i issue "nmap localhost" it shows me that SMTP port 25 is open, but when i issue "nmap myserver" (192.168.1.20 myserver ( written in hostfile)), it does not show that SMTP port is open.
I checked the /var/log/maillog, one person in my previous post advice me to see that. There it shows that message is accepted for delivery...but i do not get any mail in my destination, even not in spam folder. One more confusion is that, in my case my server is in LAN and if I am at all enable to open the SMTP port on it, does i need to open SMTP port on my router (which connects my LAN to internet) also needs to open? I think no, because SMTP is application layer protocol, it will wrap my mail in IP packet, which router just need to forward. am i right?
I have configured a squid proxy; it's running, but there was a problem: it does not provide service to client side.
The error was: "could not connect to session manager" "cannot open the network socket"

Client - Kubuntu 10.10
When I try to open any nfs-mounted file using OpenOffice, I get a pop-up window titled "Document in Use". The text of the message is:
"Document file 'abcde.odt' is locked for editing by:
Unknown User
Open document read-only or open a copy of the document for editing." I then have three options - <Open Read-Only>, <Open Copy>, & <Cancel> If I cp any of these files from the mounted directory to my home dir (not mounted), I can open them without problem.Also, my firefox & thunderbird date are in this mounted directory as well (sym links to ~dan/.mozilla & ~dan/.thunderbird). Both of these apps hang when trying to open, leaving two processes behind that need to be manually killed. Again, cp'ing the data out of the nfs-mounted dir onto a local dir resolves the issue, so I am 100% confident there is nothing missing or corrupted in the firefox &/or thunderbird data...
relevant entry in /etc/fstab:
server:/nfs/dan/Documents /home/dan/Documents nfs defaults 0 0
