Ubuntu :: Making Apache Accessible To Outside World

May 22, 2010

Set Up:
1. Ubuntu 10.04 x64 on Acer Aspire NoteBook.
2. LAMP installed
3. Using an ADSL modem to connect to internet, make is "Nokia Siemens Residential Router 1600"
4. Modem LAN settings are as shown in the attachment picture.
5. So mostly my laptop is assigned the ip ranging from 10.0.0.2 to 10.0.0.10 as the router use NAT.
6. http://localhost, 127.0.0.1, 10.0.0.2 or whatever my ip is, work fine to see my default Apache homepage in locally connected devices.
7. The IP which I find from [URL] should connect to my Apache homepage but instead it connects to my Router Interface/Configure panel as shown in image attached.

What I want:
1. My Apache home page accessible to outside world via my dynamic ip.

Fedora Networking :: File Storage On F10 Machine Accessible By XP Computer

Mar 5, 2009

I want to have my Fedora 10 computer act as file storage and access it from my Windows computers.
Details:
Fedora 10 box is fully functional and connects to the internet using a wireless card to my Linksys 54G router. I've configured the smb.conf file to workgroup MSHOME, and assigned it an IP of 192.168.1.150. I've also set it to turn on smb at boot. Windows XP Home is hard wired to the same router with the standard Workgroup of MSHOME. Windows is set to obtain IP and DNS automatically. There's another Windows XP Home system that's also wireless on MSHOME that I can interact with fine from the main Windows comp. Ping results to 192.168.1.150 results in Request timed out.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Samba Share Not Accessible From Windows Machine?

Feb 13, 2010

I have Linux installed on one machine with samba running and a second machine running XP. They are going through my router and I am using the same username/passwords for both machines and I have even gone to the point of allowing access to everyone for the share I created and the worgroup in samba is MSHOME just like my XP machine. When I view (or search) my workgroup computers my Linux machine shows up and so do the shares I created but when I try to open them I just get a message that permission is denied and I may not have permission to use this resource. I even tried setting access to the shared folder to 777 but still I can't open this share. Has anyone got any idea of why this is?

Ubuntu Networking :: Avahi Only Seeing Local Machine

Jul 25, 2010

I have a few ubuntu machines in my house, 1 mythtv backend server with other services as well, 2 mythbuntu frontends boxes hooked up to tv's etc. I wanted to push the audio from my laptop out over pulseaudio to the machine connected to the AV equipment.

I could not see any other pulseaudio sinks in padevchooser... this lead me down the road to investigating avahi.

When I run avahi-browse on my laptop (hydrogen) it only returns the services published from itself:

Code:
$ avahi-browse -ta
+ wlan0 IPv4 byron's remote desktop on hydrogen VNC Remote Access local
+ wlan0 IPv4 hydrogen [00:1b:77:71:97:76] Workstation

[Code]....

My laptop has vmware on it, and I've changed the vmnet intefaces to not support multicast so avahi ignores them. but I'm still at a loss to why my laptop can't see the other machines on my network with avahi (mdns).

Networking :: Can't Login To The Port On The Local Machine?

Feb 28, 2010

I have a reverse ssh connection established from a remote machine to my local machine - it is established with autossh from the remote machine - I know it is connecting because I can see the two ssh processes on the local machine - and, when I kill the two ssh processes, two new ssh processes are immediately established. But I cannot login to the port on the local machine. I have tried everything - it simply refuses to connect. This remote machine is miles away and not readily accessible.

Code:
ssh -p 7766 -vvv user[at_sign]192.168.1.108
OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-6ubuntu2, OpenSSL 0.9.8g 19 Oct 2007
debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config
debug1: Applying options for *
debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0

[Code]...

I'm wondering if there is some way I could utilize netcat or socat to "tap into" this connection from my local machine??? (My ultimate goal would be to get to a shell on the remote machine.)

General :: Make Local Web Page Accessible From Internet?

Dec 23, 2010

On computer, I have apache server, configured at port 80, running. In local network, web page is accessible by my local IP (192...). Although, when I want to get to the page from the internet, I don't know right ip address, since router's one should be local, and also, router has it's own web page running at port 80. So I guessed that my server IP would be modem's one, which I don't know. Sometime in past, I figured out address of modem too, but it has it's own application running. Also, router supports port forwarding (which I guess, is needed), but I don't know how to get using to it. what address from internet should I have? How should I determine it?

But for some reason when I try to take a look on my laptop (on the same network) and try to go to it using the IP address is doesn't go. Debian Configuration :: OpenVPN And IPTables - No Local Hostnames Accessible

Feb 7, 2016

I managed to set up an openvpn server, ip-forwarding and a nat iptable rule for that.

Almost everything works as expected, but my problem is:

Smartphone -> VPN -> Internet ==> works (by ip and hostname)
Smartphone -> VPN -> machine in my local network by IP ==> works
Smartphone -> VPN -> machine in my local network by its hostname => DOES NOT WORK
Machine w/ VPN server -> ping to machine in local network by ip or hostname => works

So, i wonder why i cant access a local machine through the vpn by its hostname. I guess I'm missing a forwarding rule??

Networking :: Changes On The Server Side Aren't Visible On The Client Side?

Jan 10, 2011

I'm using NFS and I have the following problem. After ~100 days, the client and server lose connection, but the client doesn't know about this, it gives no error. The problem is that the changes on the server side aren't visible on the client side.

The nfs options are: "noatime, nolock, hard, udp, notcp, nosuid, nodev, rsize=8192, wsize=8192, actimeo=60"

The kernel version is: 2.6.16.27 built with 250 Hz. Is this an already corrected issue in a kernel version? Or are my options wrong?

Security :: SSH Tunnel Not Accessible From Different Machine On Same Network

Dec 16, 2010

I have an SSH tunnel setup between a local server and a remote postfix relay VPS. This is so we can route all our outgoing mail through this SSH tunnel to a private relay VPS, this seems to give us much more consistent mail delivery than using our ISP's relay. So the SSH tunnel is set to route port 1025 on machine A to port 25 on the VPS This part of it is working perfectly and has been for months. However today I wanted to set our e-mail newsletter software (on the same network as the SSH tunnel start-point) to send through the SSH tunnel. So I punched in the IP/port... 192.168.1.5:1025 but it doesn't work. Is there something I need to do to allow connections from other machines on the LAN to access the start-point of the SSH tunnel? Or are SSH tunnels restricted to localhost connections only?

Ubuntu :: 10.10 - XHost From Local Machine

Feb 2, 2011

I would like to be able to have one local user connect to the X of another local user and run an X program. On fedora, I can simply run:
$ xhost +
And then have the other user run:
$ sol --display=0.0

This is not working on my ubuntu (10.10). I am guessing that there is an additional level of Xauth restrictions, but I cannot find out how to get past them. Both users are local to the machine. I would like to not use sux or gdsu as both require you to enter the password and I would like this to be seemless. I am aware of the security concerns and believe that I have mitigated them.

General :: Ubuntu - Play Two Or More Videos Side By Side In A Synchronized Fashion

May 10, 2010

I have two (or more) video files that I want to play side by side. I could do that simply by opening them in two seperate windows, but that would also seperate all the controls (play/pause/forward/...). I want to play them in a synchronized fashion so that pause/forwarding/... works on both videos simultaneously so that they always stay at the same timecode and they don't go out of sync. How would I accomplish that in Linux?

This is needed for viewing only, so compositing them into a new video file first should be avoided if possible, but if there isn't an easy way to do that, I welcome answers doing it with composition as well.
