View 14 Replies View RelatedI have just done a new install and have no network (LAN) connection.My network card blinks as if there is activity but the corresponding diode on my router is not active.I have checked the ethernet cable by switching with a valid connection to a WinXP system; like this I know that all the router ports are good.The network configuration module does not indicate a wired connection.
I have also tried sudo ifdown eth0 and sudo ifup eth0 but receive error message: interface eth0 not configured Can anyone help as it is my first experience with linux systems.
I have been trying to install a network printer with no success. I am using a laptop with Ubuntu and my printer is in a Windows-XP. I have installed samba and added the printer, but it always comes back asking for the authentication. I do not have in my Windows-XP accounts with password, if I use one of my users registered in Windows it does not reconizes it. If I use the user/pass of ubuntu it does not work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new install and I am quite surprised it just misses networking. That is, NO networking. ifconfig comes up with inly lo. Nothing else, most primal. It should use dhcp to connect, bit it fails to create the eth0 interface. Such a fundamental flaw is one I can't work on. Forget looking in network manager in the desktop, that's still being installed, I've checked the basic files in etc against karmic.

I am booting from a PXE server which runs the anaconda installer l have tried editing the kickstart files and also the pxe cfg file with various options, but have had no luck so far.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy desktop computer has another Linux distro on it. Wired networking was working fine. I wanted to try Ubuntu 10.10 so I installed it on a spare USB HDD. After install, networking still worked on both distros.
I moved the USB HDD to my win7 laptop and Ubuntu 10.10 booted fine. Once booted, Ubuntu asked to configure wireless on the laptop. I tried to do this but it did not work.
Therefore, I moved the USB HHD back to the desktop and booted. Now the wired network does not work from either Ubuntu or other distro (fedora 14). And to top it all off, the wired network will not work even from the Ubuntu live CD.
I have checked all connections, switches & cat5 cables to my desktop computer. I can still access the network and internet from my laptop (in win7) so I do not believe it is an infrastructure issue. I can confirm that everything works from the cable out of the back of the desktop through to the internet.

I'm trying to install CentOS 5.4 from my local repo, booting the server from centos54-netinstall iso (vmware). I write "linux URL..." during boot. I eventually get prompted for network config, where I choose manual configuration. Hitting OK ignores my config and defaults back to dhcp, which won't work since I don't have any dhcp server available.Whats wrong? Is there a bug in anaconda?

I am trying to verify why I get an error during installation that "stage2.img" cannot be found and I'm guessing that since I can *not* ping the static IP I assigned, that the network functionality is not working during the install process. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed qemu/kvm and created a Bridged network connection which works just fine(Windows 7 VM won't work in NAT mode.)
But when I try to use NetworkManager it says that I have no network connection because the network isn't managed, (I set the settings in ifcfg-br0 and ifcfg-eth0 to be managed)
The real problem is that now I can't use my VPN connections (I have many) in NetworkManager.
Is there a way to have both of these pieces of functionality?

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10, coming from 10.04 and the wired network connection sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. Right now I manually removed current network from System-->Preferences--> network connections, define a new one, and reboot. This usually fixes, although I've had to do this two times in the past.

Everything works perfectly except no wireless networks are recognized, even though I know there are available networks. My network controller is detected but is not doing it's job, which is finding available wireless networks! Using "system testing" I found this out about my network controller:

I installed natty finally on my laptop (T410 Lenovo) via an upgrade from maverick. I tested maverick thoroughly first, since I had to perform the upgrade over the network, due to issues with natty booting from DVD. The upgrade went fine to natty, the system came up and I was able to get on locally and install other packages, though I did notice from time to time a lag in network performance. I installed VNC server and started it, as well as other network related services. However, I am noticing a definite issue with the network support and I suspect the natty kernel. The configuration looks sound, ifconfig, netstat and other functions appear to display the correct information, at least what I had with maverick (which worked).
Has anyone else seen issues with natty and networking? The glass looks okay, though I am using xfce and frankly there is nothing new there to really force me to upgrade, its just that this is a new LT and if I can cold install natty right now, it will save me an upgrade later.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased an Asus EeePC 1001HA netbook and I would like to install Ubuntu Netbook Edition 9.10 (love the look and the brilliant interface), but I can't get the wireless network to work. I am currently running from a 4Gb USB stick that has the LiveCD on it with a 1Gb persistence. The network notification area only shows wired and VPN connections. I have tried installing the Ralink 3090 driver but I have had no luck in getting the wireless to work.
View 8 Replies View RelatedVersion 10.04 LTS. Installed desktop version and network worked but I needed a static IP address and the install configures for a DHCP configured address. I tried changing to static address using the System->Preferences->Network Connections application but was unable to get the system to come up with the network up.
So I manually modified the /etc/network/interfaces and the /etc/resolv.conf files. I restart the system but when I do an ifconfig, I don't see a configured IP address on eth0 (only the loopback address). If I run /sbin/ifup eth0 everything then works fine and ifconfig shows the correct address bound to eth0.
My files are as follows:
I install from openSUSE-11.3-NET-x86_64.iso. Installation was succesfull, but after install all packet on test internet / update was error. And after log in in installed system internet not work. I use router with DHCP

According to what I've read, this requires rarpd and tftpd which I've set up on opensuse, but also bootparamd which I can't find for 11.3. It seems it was last included with opensuse 9.2. Does anyone know if it's available, if I could use the suse 9.2 version, or any alternative?
