OpenSUSE Network :: Network Not Work \ After Install All Packet On Test Internet / Update Was Error?
Jan 5, 2011
I install from openSUSE-11.3-NET-x86_64.iso. Installation was succesfull, but after install all packet on test internet / update was error. And after log in in installed system internet not work. I use router with DHCP
In short: browsing the internet with domain names does not work. The long version: I've configured my network with DHCP and ifup. Ping works on my internal net and with servers in the internet. Dig work's too! I get the right IP to the requested domain. When i try to access the internet using firefox or even wget i get an DNS error. For example wget is showing the following error: Resolving heise.de... failed: Name or service not known. wget: unable to resolve host address 'heise.de'
Again dig show me the right IP and if i add the entry to /etc/hosts it work's too! I've even tried it with manually setup of ip address, nameserver and default gateway but with the same result. Switching off the firewall has no effect on this problem, too.
In an IPv6 test environment I have installed an openSUSE 11.2 system. I have also installed telnet and it works with IPv4 (I can open a session from a Windows console with "telnet ipv4addr").
If I try to open a session with "telnet ipv6addr" I get the response: "Connecting To ipv6addr. Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed".
Does the telnetserver support IPv6 or did I something wrong?
I first tried an upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4 and lost Internet Access, so i re-loaded 11.4 from scratch on clean partitions.
I am connected to my wireless WPA2/PSK connection, have an IP, am able to see the network.
I turned off and disabled the SUSE firewall.
I tried setting Firefox proxy settings to auto and to none, i dont use proxy.
I am currently posting this through an SSH connection to my 11.1 server from the new install of 11.4 on a Dell latitude D600 laptop (not using the on-board Broadcomm that is an issue for a later date).
I have configured OpenSuSE 11.1 in VirtualBox and Networking was working fine and I was able to access network. Yesterday I recieved update notification from SuSE and updated machine. Now after restart eth0 is not comming up. In Hardware profile I can see Network Card but it is not configured automatically. I don't know how to configure it. Virtualbox Networking was working before latest update and just tried in other virtual machines.
i've installed opensuse 11.3 x86_64 and everything works great. after install updates and restart i cannot access internet from wireless connection. Knetworkmanager says it is connected, i have a dhcp ip, gateway, and cannot access internet.... i tried to configure from yast and cannot access internet...
I cannot use the online update and any other web repository because I got the following error while using the online update:
Code:
Errore durante il download di (curl) per 'http://packman.iu-bremen.de/suse/11.3/repodata/repomd.xml': Codice dell'errore: Connection failed Messaggio dell'errore: couldn't connect to host
the translation is:
Code:
Error during downloading (curl) from 'http://packman.iu-bremen.de/suse/11.3/repodata/repomd.xml': Error code: Connection failed Error message: couldn't connect to host
I would point out that any other application that needs accessing the internet is working correctly.
I had work well with opensuse 11 and the internet also work well but when I turn off my computer and then use the XP and work with it. I find out the connection with the internet doesn't work in the opensuse 11. I made a repair and format to opensuse 11 but without any change the net still doesn't work.
CPU Pentium4 Motherboard Gigabyte intel 945 S-series Dial up connection I have no experience with opensuse.
I tried to set up my internet connection using the network manager and not the classic iufp method. At first it just didn't work but after deactivating IPv6 I got it working: firefox can connect to the internet. What troubles me is the online update with Update Applet. The following message pops up: "Error: packageKit error repo-not-available: Failed to download /media fromAlso when I go to Yast->Software->Software repositories I get the msg:Systemadministration is blocked by PID 2459 (/usr/sbin/packagekitd). Close the application and try again.Using the command "sudo zypper refresh"eates the same message.I spent already hours trying to figure out the problem without luck
I have installed openusese 11.2 since about 2 months ago. Everything running well. But since the network admin deploy proxy server, I couldn't get update than.[URL]this problem, was that related to proxy settings?Or did I miss something else?
I have installed openSUSE KDE 11.3 on my notebook. Everything looks great, but I can't connect on internet. It looks like dhcp don't work. Wireless works fine, only auto eth0 don't work.
i have huawei usb stick modem, i'm connecting to internet with wvdial command, i have configured the file "wvdial.conf" to be able to connect, everything works fine i guess but the update applet still show me the message
Code: Unable to check whether updates are available
connect to the internet and connection manager too .. it tell me i'm not connected, i think i must configure my connection in an other way .. but i don't know how ..
I'm on opensuse 11.4 (11.3 won't work with my monitor).
My computer gets internet through wireless and I want to share that internet through its ethernet port. So far I've tried using Knetworkmanager to create a network bridge between my wireless and wired connections. I created a new wired connection and shared it using the ip address settings. I was able to get both connections active, but the device hooked up via ethernet had no internet connectivity.
I also tried this command: echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
but another test resulted in the same fashion (no internet on wired). I believe anything I add to /proc should have an immediate effect, correct?
After i install it i lost my internet connection . i got a message " Wired Network " " you work offline ". i use cable ADSL ,.... my Pc information HP Pavilion 6700 running with both Window 7 & Ubuntu 10.10 note... my network connection work correctly on W7.
I have a desktop computer running OpenSUSE 11.2 with two network cards installed. I would like to use both cards for connecting to the internet using different networks. The setting would be the following: eth0 is the main (default) card, almost all programs should use this NIC for connecting to the internet. eth1 is used only by a few programs, which have setting for selecting which network interface to use. The two NIC's are connected to different networks, so the IP address of the NIC's, the related subnet masks and gateways are also different.
Saying short, I would like to have the two NIC's as they would be in two separate computers. I can set the IP address and subnet mask of the NIC's. The main problem is that I can only declare one gateway. How can i setup this? I do not use network manager, I configure network cards using yast, but if needed I can of course use ifconfig directly.
I'm having a strange problem with my network connection/DNS. I turn computer the on and it recognizes and connects to wireless or wired but I can't access any Internet resources or my router. If I ping the default gateway, I get no response and I get DNS errors from any network services that run at start up. If I stop and start the network daemon then it all works fine until the next time I turn on my laptop. It does this for both wireless and wired connection.
I've tried to edit the network interface information in YaST but it says that configuration is handled by knetworkmanager and I have no idea where that information is accessed. I should point out that it all worked fine until I tried to connect to open WAP at my school and couldn't so I connected to the wired network. Next morning I had this problem when connecting to my home network. My questions are 1. What could be the cause of this error and 2. where does one configure the network interfaces when using knetworkmanager
I often use an Ethernet cable to connect my computer to another computer for various purposes. But when I do that, I cannot use the internet even though I'm still connected to a WiFi access point. I'm presuming that's because openSUSE is trying to reach the internet through the Ethernet cable, which has precedence over WiFi.Is there a way to enable internet usage via WiFi while I'm connected to another computer over Ethernet?
Installed a security update for samba tonight via Opensuse updater. Now, when trying to access my home network an authentication box pops up (never used to)Asks me to enter authentication for my home network.I enter my username and password and hit enter. After a few seconds the authentication box pops up again askingfor the same indicating I have entered the wrong username / password combination (which I know I have not).
the thing is that I cant use Network Manager to connect to Internet, because it simply do not connect. The connection, although, awailable throught yast when i choose "traditional method with ifup", so everything is just fine, but if i need to reconnect, i have to reboot. How do I setup a !working! connection through Network Manager, or maybe i do not do something properly.
I'm new in SUSE 11.4. My problem is: I'm using Alfa AWUS036H card. It's recognised and I can establish connection to my network, but cant get to Internet. I can't surf the web cos Firefox tell me that connection is timed out. Now I'm confused why I can't surf the web even if I'm connected. Also, I trayed to instal linux drivers for this card folloving Ubuntu "how to" and it just dont work.
I have problem after install opensuse 11.2 on lenovo R61. I have no connection to internet, although on liveCD (opensuse 11.2) is internet connection functional. In ubuntu or opensuse 11.1 was all OK, connection was functional.- at DSL Configuration / Ethernet Card is Unknown device- in hardware is Card: 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection (eth0)- modprobe wl write it FATAL: Module wl not found.
I just finished a brand new install of 11.2 on a workstation and it can't connect to the internet at all. I can ping Google and I can ping devices on my local network but I can't browse any web pages. I am able to ping the workstation with my windows 7 workstation. I tried disabling the firewall. I have it set to use DHCP.
UPDATE:
I can connect to google via IP. So it appears to be a DNS type issue, is there some settings I am missing?
I deleted the firewall files "K09SuSEfirewall2_init", "K01SuSEfirewall2_setup", "S11SuSEfirewall2_setup" and "S01SuSEfirewall2_init" from "/etc/rc.d/rc5.d" in order to disable the firewall when rebooting.
As a consequence all network services are not working. I can't connect to any other machine nor to the internet.
I rebuilt the symbolic files based on the ones for runlevel 3, but still no network services are available.
Any suggestions how to make it work again? I'm using Suse 11.3.
I have an OpenSuSE 11.1 in vmWare ESX and every other boot I can't access any running network services (ssh, webmin, qmail, mysql, ...) from outside. I just need to login, reboot and voila - network services are working.I gradually updated to 11.2 and 11.3 by following the wiki with success but this problem remained. So I reverted to snapshot of 11.1 and now I would like to identify and solve the problem here first.I also looked at /var/log/messages /var/log/boot.msg /var/log/lastlog but can't find anything usefull. I will now compare those files from the working and non-working boot but meanwhile someone already has an idea or experience what could be wrong?
I had Kubuntu 64-bit installed and decided to try OpenSUSE instead as I was having problems getting the audio to work on Skype. After installing OpenSUSE 11.3 (64-bit), I do not have network connectivity (Ethernet or Wireless)? Neither adapter can be detected? I thought the install would be fairly straightforward as Kubuntu 64-bit detected all the hardware.
Im good with windows computers but have no idea about linux. OKay i installed the brand new OPENSUSE DVD, everything installed ok, but then i got to the internet problem, well connection problem. 1. I am going through a router to a att dsl modem. so i use a static ip as my desktop and my xbox 360 are both connected and both working fine, the router is a linksys etherfast cable/dsl router. my labtop is a acer with a realtek family Ethernet series model. so i tried just about everything and nothing works, so i switched to traditional and turned off the network manager, and it tried to load smpdd or something and couldnt get it from the dvd drive that was mounted even though i had used the drive 10 minutes ago to INSTALL THE OS. so them i went back to square one and tried a reinstall, but when i try to setup the connection on the install, the ip static doesnt work, i even plugged the thing directly into the modem and went to automatic dhcp settings- and still nothing.
i have a small home network. i have laptops and workstations that my family (public) uses and an esxi box (private) that i use to test new apps for work.i need to have the public network separate from private. I have tried using two linksys routers but was unable to get the private network to access the internet. i was thinking i could use iptables with a couple of nics but I am not sure it would work. I know this could be a lot of work for someone that has never used iptables before but will give me a reason to learn it.i am sure setting up a public and private network has been done before i just don't to buy a bunch of hardware. I have a extra workstation and a bunch of nics so i would like to go that route. I am open to suggestions.
I just installed openSUSE 11.4 on my 2 home machines. My home network lies behind a nat router but I still use the external zone setting for my firewalls. In the past to enable network printing between the two computers I opened TCP and UDP port 631. Yast would then see the remote printer, set it up and all was good. This time Yast sees and sets up the remote printer as usual. When I print the test page nothing happens. Checking the cups admin page at localhost:631 on the host machine shows the printer is set up to share but nothing is in the print que. Printing works just fine on the host computer.
I recently installed Open SUSE 11.2. It's a pretty cool OS. Anyway, sadly enough, I cannot access my internet connection via my USB internet modem. Worst of all, Open SUSE cannot detect the USB modem device. I am currently new to Linux and I may be overlooking something. I also clearly figured that Linux online is better than Linux offline from what I read from blogs and numerous posts. So in essence, I cannot fully appreciate the true power of Open SUSE 11.2 offline. Would there be a way to install my USB modem device?
